let's try to stay on Topic... the Founder's Program has no relationship to being in a House or Merc Corp.

The media article said playing as a Steiner or Davion would still be free, as would being a Lone Wolf. So you can be in CW for free, according to the article, just not a Merc... a MW:O Merc... :)

It's funny that people miss that first part of the sentence.

Marrika strong.

The problem is that you need to read the next sentence

Quote

"Then we have factions, and factions are NPC factions. They belong to the universe, they're a part of the lore. These are the great houses of BattleTech.

"These guys participate in territory control in a more passive way. Their matches affect the universe, but indirectly.

This implies that the real CW, where you actually have an effect on planet status, is only with the Mercs.

Why should F2P get the same content as P2P members? There has to be some incentive, otherwise whats the point? No MMO out there with a subscription incentive alongside its F2P allows both to have the same content.

Besides, the content that Mercs will get won't be vastly different than Faction or Lone Wolves.

Well the thing is I question having P2P portions in a F2P game, and I'm not talking about a certain mech you can't get without MC etc. I'm talking about actual gameplay content, and where did you get info about Mercs not being that different from Faction warfare in this regard? If you have a link where you got this info I'd like to see it myself, as long as it's not something mentioned by devs a few months back, because they can have changed their minds about that already.

Are any of those games P2Play2Gether though?

You can become part of House Units with your friends for free, but you won't get the feature of choosing your fights. We'll see how this pans out and what kinds of fluidity/flexibility they give us in terms of personalizing our House Affiliations and what grouping options are being granted to Lone Wolves.

Just throwing this out there, but a common back-up plan might wind up being to just Merge your [current] Merc Corp into a House and work as a House Unit if they do, indeed, require Premium Accounts for Mercenaries.

Once again, Suppprt got back to me and said they are aware of this thread and the commotion it's causing, the holiday weekend means they're not all together, but they will do something... that's all I got.

Spoiler

If i have to pay any kind of subscription, whether that's in the guise of having to buy premium time, or having to pay some other up-keep to play the game (i.e with a merc corp, or to participate in CW) then i'd rather go back to an actual subscription based MMO and leave this game be.

You guys really need to stop dropping these badly worded bombs on us and then complaining that we make a huge fuss based on misinformation, or more often, no information. If you don't want that sort of reaction, stop doing bad interviews or forum posts which hint at stuff and take the time to explain it. Don't make out like our lack of informed opinion on these matters is our fault.

Battered housewife man. It's like a bi-weekly thing now with PGI.

PGI hits us. PGI brushes it off as a misunderstanding or an accident. PGI tries to win us back with flowers and double EXP weekend. We forgive PGI. Two weeks later, PGI hits us again.

Right at the bottom.

To be fair, above that they said that House units will be NPC controlled factions. Then, in the text image you have up they say that NPC factions will be free to play.

It is the player run units (aka Merc Corps / Clans / Etc..) that they appear to be monetizing.

And that's the problem.

They stated in the interview that the free factions would not be getting the same experience as the merc corps:

Quote

"Then we have factions, and factions are NPC factions. They belong to the universe, they're a part of the lore. These are the great houses of BattleTech.

"These guys participate in territory control in a more passive way. Their matches affect the universe, but indirectly.

This means that the Merc Corps are where the real CW game is at which means they're pay walling off a feature that most of us have been wishing for for a long time. That's just not good business in a f2p game. You want people to experience what you have and then allow players to pay to shortcut the grind, get some neat sidegrade items, and/or some silly cosmetic ****. If free players feel like they're being kicked in the **** out of spite then that will only serve to drive off potential customers.

If 80 out of 100 people polled stated they would pay money to start a group and play with friends, as well as pay a small monthly fee to maintain it. Then 20 people said they wouldn't pay for that opportunity. But past that, 12 of those 20 people went on to argue in a forum why they wouldn't pay that money to another 12 people on the forums who said they would on the website the poll was presented on. That makes the 24 "vocal" people the minority out of 100 polled, whether they agreed or not.

CONFUSING ISN'T IT?!?!

Wow. Just when I was about to consider putting some more money into the game to pick up the new Rhonda Snord mech when it comes out... they have to pull this kind of **** and make me regret buying Founders all over again.

Seriously, hiding it in game isn't enough. Can I hide it on the forums, too? I'm ashamed I purchased it.

Does seem to be that lately we get more bad news than good.

What i find funny is, merc units cry out for things that we're happy for them to monetise, things like us paying for our own, custom skins, decals, etc, but that stuff always seems to be shot down. Instead we get this, which is essentially them wanting us to pay to do something we've already been doing for the last year.

Good monetisation in F2P games is introducing new, attractive features people want to pay for, not constantly revising the game to make people pay just so they can carry on doing what they've been doing.

I don't mind if they charge a set up fee that was affordable. I mean small and large clans can just pony up a few bucks and pool it together for set up fee. Paying 10 dollars a month to be in a merc clan, that is just not right.

I now regreat buying founders.

Every bit of money I have put towards MWO is with the thought we were all moving towards a F2P CW.

I see now that until such time as CW arrives I will be very, very reluctant to spend any more money on the game as it seems the vision I had, and was painted for me my PGI, may well change to such an extent the experience becomes something I neither have the time, inclination or patience for.

And I was really enjoying the core fighting even if I was bored to tears by the current maps and game modes.
