THIS is some good ol' Community Warfare, right here. I'll be on tonight, around 9-11 PM PST... come find me (before I find you... muwahahaha)

Anyways, I can understand trying to limit the Mercenary Players to those who are "dedicated" because Mercs have to be able to field teams whenever SOMEBODY ELSE gets a contract to try and take your land. It's a point where your Unit has to be on-call 24/7 to drop response teams (with some sort of advance notice, of course) and that just won't happen with a Company of 4 guys who play once a week.

Alas, I have never participated in playing a F2P game. I am used to the drop-$60_and-play kind of games. If running premium all the time costs $120 a year, that's like buying an Xbox game every 6 months. I have no idea how that stacks against other FTP games with guilds and whatnot.

and you're looking at my *** walking out the door.

Buh, bye, PGI. Nice try.

Getting them to say something about CW was like winning back somerset from the clans. Then they had to pull a malthus and take the most important part of it hostage.

Does seem to be that lately we get more bad news than good.

What i find funny is, merc units cry out for things that we're happy for them to monetise, things like us paying for our own, custom skins, decals, etc, but that stuff always seems to be shot down. Instead we get this, which is essentially them wanting us to pay to do something we've already been doing for the last year.

Good monetisation in F2P games is introducing new, attractive features people want to pay for, not constantly revising the game to make people pay just so they can carry on doing what they've been doing.

Beyond the information posted we know nothing else, maybe when they go deeper into the details, the "monthly" Merc Corps fee will be to create skins from information provided by that merc corps to use on their mechs... Monthly subscribers do more to establish the longevity of the game than the guys who buy the cosmetic items...

Premium time is a pretty common mechanic in most f2p games because it's a good one. It basically works out to be the equivalent of a ten dollar a month MMO subscription and I'm pretty comfortable with that price. I play a variety of f2p games and there are ones with good plans and ones with f2p schemes that make you want to kick the devs in the ****. The latter tend to show up a LOT on mobile devices (**** you Glu Mobile). Generally the premium mechanic is the pay to shortcut feature allowing paying customers to get access to more money and toys faster than non-premium but generally they're the exact same money and toys the free guys can get.

It's a great system and one I don't think any sane person has an issue with it. It's when devs decide to do some silly **** like this debacle with it that it becomes an issue.

:)

I wish the Hawken bros and MWO bros would just hug it out. Both games are fun for different reasons.

I'd be totally ok with this. If being a premium merc guy lets you go nuts with having flashy features that's perfectly acceptable. If it's a paywall then PGI can eat ****.

You want dedication, PGI? I've spent over a year making a corp. I, and many others, have paid our dues elsewhere: VoIP servers (especially with lack of in-game options), websites, forums, teaching our members how to play (because you can't be bothered to), participating in our own player-run competitions and tournaments (since you're taking your sweet ol' time), making connections... I could go on. You want dedicated? How about sticking with you through all this crap you constantly throw at us as you seem to be doing your darnedest to destroy this game from the inside. I've defended you constantly, but I'll tell you right now: you want me to pay for premium to run and participate in a merc corp, you can forget it.

This isn't TF2 or LoL. And MWO will continue to be F2P. You click launch, shoot mechs, repeat. You won't have to pay to do that.

Why should F2P get the same content as P2P members? There has to be some incentive, otherwise whats the point? No MMO out there with a subscription incentive alongside its F2P allows both to have the same content.

Besides, the content that Mercs will get won't be vastly different than Faction or Lone Wolves.

Can you quote where they said you have to pay to click the launch button? Apparently I didn't see it, or you are making this up.

CW won't require premium time, you can still participate in Faction control, instead of taking planets for your Merc Corps, your faction will get influence instead.

Before you all go on a rant, look at what other MMOs do for F2P and P2P:

www.everquest.com
www.everquest2.com
tera.enmasse.com
www.ddo.com
sto.perfectworld.com
www.ageofconan.com
www.swtor.com
www.dcuniverseonline.com

Just to name a few that have content that you pay for, but can still play for free.

That's not the point. Many of us have ALREADY spent $60-120 on the assumption that CW would BE the game. If I buy an xbox game, I can put that game in my xbox and play the game. With MWO I have to now pay a subscription for a game that's Free? AFTER I ALREADY PAID?

Well can't say this isn't the expected standard by PGI after their 'bait and switch' consumables ploy to incite the forum then introduce a modified system (still incr. their MC bottomline). Or the incentary remark's made by dev's on these forums followed up by saying they WILL revisit a topic which the community already put their foot down on previously.

If I have to pay for premium time, JUST to play in a group with my friends, then what's the point of playing this game as a F2P... I joined MWO to play in Community Warfare with a Merc Unit, since that where the real competition will be, not some watered down House Faction grinding which we have no control over. Because then that defeats the purpose of joining a unit, trying to make something out of it, only to be blocked at the end-game because of affordability to lead my fellow friends into the game.

An analogy would be Merc Unit's pay for fresh clear water to drink, you don't pony up the cash then you're stuck drinking the dishwater swill as a Lone Wolf or Faction player. Very dissapointed, but by PGI's behaviour not unexpected now.

Well you know what.... I have almost never posted here because I was kinda hoping that PGI was Semi smart and made the game decent, but you know what no... no... they are a bunch of greedy money hoarders! I'm not going to point another freaking penny into PGI until I have some trust in their ability to make choices about the game and where you have to spend money.

I will pay for camo I will pay for Figures in my mech once I can trust PGI to make a GOOD GAME.

No. WOT does not do this. They require premium to form a team but anyone can play in that team.

At one point, you had to have a premium membership to play clan wars at all. Now you need a premium to maintain the clan.

let's try to stay on Topic... the Founder's Program has no relationship to being in a House or Merc Corp.

The media article said playing as a Steiner or Davion would still be free, as would being a Lone Wolf. So you can be in CW for free, according to the article, just not a Merc... a MW:O Merc... :)

I agree. Everything you were getting with the founder's package has been given to you. Elements of the game have changed, but they still gave you the mech and MC that was promised. This is no different from any pre-order or crowed backing. It's not a promise to only do what we want, just a promise to give us specific items.

Though many of us did back MWO on the premise that it was free to play. It would have been very nice to know that elements of the game would require a subscription, which was not the case a year ago.

Again, I feel that people who spend $20 - $30 on a hero mech every month should not then be forced to pay another $10. At this point, it's exactly like EvE - pay to play AND pay for the premium content.

It's a holiday weekend. The developers do have a right to live outside the office.

Requiring premium time to join a Merc Corp is a bad idea and whoever thought it up should feel bad.

I'll buy your Hero 'mechs, mechbays, camo's and whatnot, but I'm not going to buy the ability to play with my friends at the exclusion of those who don't have premium time.

I'm fine with having a "founding fee" for merc corps.
I can also understand requiring a premium account for anyone who's part of a merc corps.
I understand, but I don't approve.

If you really must link premium accounts to merc corps in some way, at least only require it for officers. If you require it for everyone it'll severely impact the ability of merc corps to get and maintain individual members.
