With yet another ShitStorm on the forecast for GD, looks like you'll have your hands full for a while PP.

Good Luck.

I should probably expand on the more time than money effect.

I'm going to use Diablo 3 as an example. I don't like Diablo 3. I think Blizzard has lost all touch with reality since Warcraft 3.

The real money auction house was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. This is what I mean about being creative for the money grab.

The people with more time than money - these people farm all day and night. Literally, they live in the game or spend huge chunks of time in it to get very rare and special items.

The people with more money than time - these people can't play for very long, but have a lot of disposable income. They purchase items from the former group for money.

Cha-ching! Blizzard just turned half of their player base into a massive work force without them ever realizing it. This is absolutely huge, and if I wasn't already out of college and done with my business courses, I'd be writing a pretty huge paper on it.

It's kind of like the jet engine of business modeling. You're literally tricking millions of people into making you money by playing a game. And everyone is happy with the model. One side gets paid for playing the game, the other gets to enjoy 100% of the game without a steep investment in time that they don't have.

This is the hallmark of capitalism and the kind of creativity that PGI needs to employ with community warfare. Not ancient and antiquated subscription model(heck, even television, movies, music, literature and other entertainment industries are finding ways around it).

except for how they wish they never implemented it

edit: sorry not "they", the former director regrets it.

more information needs to come out before i drag out the pitchforks and light up the bonfires. but lets say the information had better be complete and exact in its details as im not a happy camper, i went lone wolf so i could practice at the times i can play, and i was planning on joining a Steiner based Corps when CW was active...

Now im not even sure what PGI has planned for breakfast let alone on the timeline for this game.

So how many apologist posts have there been so far stating this is all small beans would you say?

Not many. A solid core of people (including me) give PGI the benefit of the doubt and generally support them. This is a bit much though. It drives a pretty solid wedge between those who pay and those who don't (or at least don't pay monthly). It also separates those who like solid, one time purchases from those who like strictly consumable items in a pretty bad way.

As many people have said, it fractures their existing merc corps and blows away their player base. There is no reason to believe it won't do so to the greater MWO player base as well (or at least fracture it).

If a premium account gets me LOBBIES alongside my Merc Corp, then I will pay it.

Other than that... you straight trippin'.

Our Merc Corp costs our members enough out of pocket to maintain as it is. Yet again, PGI opens their mouths with insane money-grabs that no community would ever go for (do you ever ask your Community Manager about anything?) only to be rebuffed right here where people have some damn sense.

... but if you are a Steiner player, then you can play for free with your friends. This issue only affects the mercenary players, like me.

There is a huge problem with this line of thought. This means that everything is driven by the players. Competition will be player-based, not in-game events. Corporations and groups will be unofficial, off the MWO grid. This comes down to one simple fact: there is nothing that holds a person, or a group, to this game.

So basically, what it becomes is simply what it is now: log in, group up with friends (maybe), pick a 'Mech, blow up 8 (soon to be 12!!!!!) enemies. Rinse and repeat.

Is that what's going to keep people in the game? Heck no. Most the people currently playing now are doing so based on hopes for the future. You kill those hopes, and people look at the present. The present? That's filled with random maps, random allies, random enemies, and what has lately been a 1/4 chance (in my experience) to not have a major HUD bug the moment you start. 'Mechs sliding on hills, getting stuck on crystals, what have you. And yet we stay. Why? Because we are dedicated. Because we see a light at the end of the tunnel. A part of that light involves Community Warfare, yes, but the biggest part is TRUST. And frankly, I can't trust someone who wants me to pay a subscription to get a field in my profile say "ELP" on it.

So then we're forced to compare the current MWO to other games, and ask ourselves: if we have to do everything ourselves, in fact have to go out of our way to avoid systems put in place by those in charge (be this IGP or PGI) to achieve the above, do we want to play MWO as it is now, or do we want to play something else? I love Battletech and Mechwarrior as much as the next guy, but to be honest, chances are MWO is going to fall very short there.

Also, I forget the name, but whoever is claiming WoT does this with premium accounts, get your facts straight. It uses a fee of premium money to create a clan and requires X amount of people with Y amount of progress in the game in order for you to participate in clan wars. Trust me, I know, I made a group way back in the day there. I didn't have premium either. The nice thing about WoT though? You could earn all that gold you spent making the group back in the clan wars.

okay pgi will probably state this is all misunderstanding and kill the plan dead in the water.

I need to go over previous threads where there have been threadnaughts over community issues.

I bet there is a certain threshold of apologists to page count they use to determine whether something can be successfully forced down our throats... :D

he's just trying to inject levity into the thread.
I mean PGI did just force feed him a weekend of **** sandwhich, hes not going to have a good time dealing with the fall out before official word comes in.

That said, it's hilarious how much complete craaaap pgi is going to be foisting on us :D

Hmm, pay to play in a merc corp? I hope someone on high realizes that a lot of the merc corps won't just "fold" into a house. These are the people who want to change the face of the game, not sit back and play random matches endlessly. Cheaper house mechs is not near enough incentive for something like that. (Unless, I guess, CW comes with 20 new mechs all sorted by houses, for just those houses) And I am wondering what will happen to the larger merc corps already out there. I don't see BWC or the ERG folding themselves into anything. SoR has enough pilots to field three regiments if they can can properly form up. PGI will at least make life on people like Dihm by slashing his corps population with a MC scythe.

Why not simply have a minimum amount of people to join a Merc Corp in the game for it to turn 'official'. Seems like that would fix all the problems PGI has apparently talked about. Making people pay to be part of a group and, for example, have the Equestria Royal Guard logo on their 'Mechs with a little EQRG tag is more than what most people in a multi-gaming group are willing to invest.

But as I have said before, we really must wait for an official announcement. Stay strong my brothers.

I really don't think there is any reason to even require a minimum size for a merc corp. If someone wants pay the fee to form only a single lance size merc corp why shouldn't this be allowed? In theory this would generate more income for PGI by allowing more merc groups to be formed if there was no minimum size requirement.
