I think the big issue here is that house players won't be able to run with corp type tags.
Look at it this way, how many of your DHB friends would rather play a house knowing they could never run with the [DHB] tag in game and could never have a custom unit logo on their mechs?
It only is planned to be pay-to-play for the merc group players but how long before the house players have to pay as well? I think enough of the merc groups will be against paying that PGI will be forced to make the house players pay with this plan.

well, isn't that awesome, so being in a house, I'm just... kinda fighting, but if I really want to make a difference, I have to pay for it.
How did I know if there was any possible way to screw the pooch on something that worked so well in MPBT:3025, and seemed so simple to pull off
PGI would do it.

I am a small unit leader, we are growing but ending up requiring members to have to have an active premium time would be weedkiller to small units.
A one time fee to setup the group, I'd happily pay that, make me have premium time, I have to think about that but if it means my guys can have the unit we've been building I'll take up a collection or foot it myself.
DO not, DO NOT make everyone who wants to be in unit that isn't one of the houses out of pocket you will murder small units in their bed. How can I recruit and grow if the pitch is "hey we'd like you to play with us.... also you need to shell out if you'd like to."
Again I really want to believe that PGI wants to support the community but blowing us off on 3PV, going back on pillars of gameplay, and now rumors of forcing a subscription just to play with friends outside of the house structure. You are making it hard to maintain my steadfast support. Please do not do that.
Do not kill the small units, please think about this.

IT IS f2p. Why is this so hard for people like you to comprehend? The only part that would be "subscription based" is the MercGroup element. WoT does the exact same thing and it's still by and large classified as an f2p game. It's the same damn thing.
What you don't comprehend is that with the way that announcement is worded, the ONLY real CW game play is when playing Mercs. They are the only ones that directly affect territory changes and see the benefits from it. Everyone else is just an indirect effect, and likely don't benefit from anything.

come off it dude, this has been coming a long time.
let's be entirely honest here do you really think CW is going to even possibly match up the hype the players have generated about it?
because honestly PGIs details about CW have been so vague of inconsquential I've no reason to believe they wont just do a simple ladder system and call it quits.
I especially love the part where in two months time they will implement PHASE 1 of CW.
We get to click a button and be part of a faction!!!
OHHH YEA. SOME SERIOUS BSNS NOW.

It's absolutely not, and paying a subscription to access part of the game is in no way "Free to play" regardless of what WoT's creators would like you to believe. You can take PGI's **** and shovel it down your noise-hole without complaint because at the end of the day you didn't fork over 120$ to help fund what was supposed to be a free to play Mechwarrior Title.
I've already spent far more than that, so continue putting yourself on a pedestal mr. founder. I've been playing since closed beta, as have you and I have spent more than your founders package on this game, so we are on equal footing. I understand you and apparently a great many others disagree with this pseudo-premium time thing, but I will support either direction PGI wants to take, as long as the game is still fun for me.

I think the idea is to use other players as peer pressure to recruit players into Merc Corps and get them paying for premium. "Gee, look how much territory those guys control. I should join them, I bet they're having a lot of fun winning all the time." I mean, being a merc pilot was what sold the founders from the beginning (the website is mwoMERCS.com).

Level 1 - Lone Wolf: no benefits, no CW, this in essence is how PUG dropping in MW:O is right now. no need to pay anything to pay though
Level 2 - House Affiliation: This is what it sounds like, you are affiliated with one of the major powers in the Inner Sphere. You get limited CW as the house territories are relatively stable and remain about the same due to "lore armor". You get some benefits from being in a faction as well as territory control.
Level 3 - Merc Corp: At this level you get all the CW benefits, but you have to pay what is basically a subscription fee.
I personally do not like the idea of having to have a premium time account in order to join a merc corp. I find it an unnecessary burden on the player, and I find the one time set up fee for the merc corp more than enough.
With that being said though I think a better approach to it would be a Set up fee + a recurring maintenance fee (monthly/yearly ect.) to keep the merc corp active. This allows for a couple of things: It opens up the recruitment potential for merc corps vastly, as now they do not require a person to have a premium time account in order to join, and it also allows for the merc corp to set up something like a pay pal account for their members to donate to if they want to in order to reduce the financial burden on the merc corp leaders.
Really PGI, look this over and take everything here into consideration. I'm going to grill you about it at PAX if I get the chance. D:
Thank you for wading through the conjecture and even while accepting and listening to the rhetoric, thinking it through and providing salient critic. Thanks sir. I applaud you, and would agree. A subscription of the group, at a low rate, would encourage groups that are really serious about being groups instead of the fly-by-night stuff being seen on the American Comstar server.

Well that was their position at the time... These things change and it is very much NOT false advertising or bait-and-switch. They can say or advertise anything and then go back on it later with no fear!!!

but PGI hasn't actually said much about CW. Just that it's going to be this THING. maybe even a BIG THING. and it will be IMPORTANT to the game.
but actual details?
Not much...
it reminds me of...
JABBERWOCY..
The new supercool awesome totally amazing thing.

Bad PGI. Bad.
That's basically my stance.
Though I feel the house units not being able to actively participate in CW is bull, I don't mind so much a one-time fee to START the Merc group.
If they do any kind of subscription, then I'm out.

120 Is simply what I was quoting as footing for the basic funding of the game. I've spent far more than that on MC because I still had hope for this game and for PGI. So ****** off, I will stand on my pedestal because they're stomping all over everything that was promised and basically stealing my money to make something entirely different.
Edited for language and semi-civility. I'm a space viking.
