Healing mechs may sound stupid, but they add an element of game play and make the game dramatically more interesting and challenging.

For those crying realism, should we start going through MWO as well? Particle Projection Cannons coming out of laser ports when they were designed for barrels the size of AC20s. Or AC20s out of machine gun ports? (Even though they are scaled up, they are still pathetically tiny in comparison to the weapons they represent). How about 18 missiles firing simultaneously out of a port meant to shoot 6 missiles at a time?

Your argument is that art assets aren't complete, and thus no one can say anything about 'realism?'

Holy ****, lol.

So your reasoning is PGI has already dumbed down MWO, so let's dumb it down further? Nice rebutle point there

I don't hate Hawken at all...I just want Hawken to be Hawken, and MWO to be MWO.

Micro-transactions are a point most everyone can agree on wanting, but right now, there is no other income other than the fluff that's micro'd in other games. With a limited selection of hero mechs atm, it's hard to lower the price, as there simply isn't enough players (yet, hopefully) to make up in volume what they'd lose in high priced sales. There's not enough paid content in general to support lower price points, unfortunately.

I'm still waiting for an explanation on the "dramatical interest and challenge" healing, life bars, and respawns would bring to the game.

Mr 144

I'd like to clarify: I don't want healing mechs in MWO, but the game has been dumbed down and will continue to be dumbed down until it taps in to the market that pays for dumbed down games. At the very least if we are going to dumb down the game we can bloody take the good aspects of the games we are or should be imitating.

Yes, art assets. And it is totally going to get "Fixed" and not just ignored. The reason their isn't much else to say about Realism in MWO because MWO is lacking in that unimportant gameplay department and will continue to lack if they try to focus on relaistic combat. Good luck making MWO anything more than TDM without considering unrealistic game modes. You have TDM, Siege (Attack/Defend w/base turrets), Defending cargo (would suck because it would be obliterated by snipers)

Edit

For those saying respawns will ruin the game, what do you think the Dropship mode is going to be?

Just downloaded it to give it a go.. I swear I almost uninstalled it immediately after seeing the starter mech you get... A microwave on legs? What the hell?
Tried a couple of games, doubt this one is for me, it tries to deliver twitchy quake 3 style gameplay, but the controls feel a bit unresponsive, aside from the "dash" mechanic, which is something I've despised since it was introduced to (and butchered) the unreal tournament series..
Found the graphics a bit off-putting too, sure it's pretty, but there is way too much clutter, both in the cockpit and environment, to be able to clearly see what's going.
Sound effects are good, and I really like the feel of the few weapons I tried so far, but doubt it'll be enough to keep me hooked, if I want mechs I'll play MWO, if I want twitchy fps it'll be planetside 2 or quakelive..

The dash mechanic was in every game in the Unreal Tournament series. Including UT 99. It was an enormous part of effectively shock comboing.

So if you really think it ruined the series, you should probably be aware that, by your metric, the series was never good.

Also, anyone who doesn't think UT 2004 was a work of art is a communist (unless you're into communism, then pick something you don't like).

Hawken was fun when it was released... wiping the floor with pugs gets old fast though. After a few days of 20-0 matches it gets pretty boring. The mechs are completely superficial, other than the world of warcraft talent tree, there is no customization.

Since the release of both games, PGI is dominating Adhesive Games in the area of content and development. Hawken has come out with what... One map since release? Their maps got old REAL fast. Yes there's 4 game modes, but DM/TDM might as well be the same and although Seige has come a long way, its still very similar to the missile assault mode.

Tried Hawken again now, too - but it seems to be kinda dead. I did some research - looks like everyone is waiting for that patch. It also is still in beta, just like MWO.

Gameplay can be fun, but you still cannot group up with people, which is kinda quite a downer... graphics look nice though - the unreal engine is still good for surprises! Plays like a really slow shooter and some mechs seem to be just totally OP - but thats my perception (the one of a total noob).
