The 6 Ppc Stalker In Action

It ain't a "iwin" mech nor does it one shot people. Well it one shots light mechs, but those are hard to hit. I see it as a support mech. Alone it can't do much, but if you ignore it in a team fight, it can deal a lot of damage. Certainly better support than any LRM mechs.

It is certainly a lot of damage all at once but I would never run it, maybe 4 ERPPCs but not 6.

1:20 A Jagermech shooting at half-buried dead mech parts. Made me laugh.
2:20 Two alphas and overheat shutdown. And again. And again.
End: One-shot light kill at long range. Impressive.
Very informative. I like the way you use cover when you get hot. The group fire / chain fire works great for you.
But if I played that mech and shut down that often, I am sure that I would die pretty fast.
Comment on the new look. The contrast is way high. I kinda like it because it matches the map. Bright sun. Glare. Vivid look. Not right for all maps but it seems right for this one.

Yeah, look at the light harassing the crap out of the OP through most of the video.
also notice its an ECM spider. Had that been a raven 3L that would have been game over haha.
edit: last shot is mint though!

If you leave them be, they pick off your less aware teammates one by one. If you close in, his bodyguards rip you apart.
It's part of the reason why I've been base capping so much lately. Despite the heat, Tourmaline is an extremely friendly PPC boat map and it's been artificially raised to roll more often. Even if you do manage to close the distance, he's likely surrounded by friends.

well im glad someone else finally noticed the "new look" I thought my video card burnt out from all the hard locks but I guess not because it looks like **** on your system too. what is new about it the lighting on the mechs? id rather stay 8 vs 8 if this is whats required in preparation to get 12 vs 12 on a map.
Hmm not sure what you are talking about there. The "new look" I'm talking about is done in video editing, basically it's darker and has more vivid colors. The "normal" unedited look would be a lot brighter, check out some of my earlier videos to see the difference.

I think thats kind of to be expected in a game like this though
If people wanted to 1 or 2 shot kills, they'd would stick with CoD type games.
...changed should to would, big difference there

Well there is a small penalty to them. As you can see from the video, I choose to sit shutdown every now and then, and that is usually when I have alphaed with already heat over 60%. That's because if you power up and your heat is over 100%, you actually take internal damage. If you choose to stay shutdown until it comes below 100%, then you are fine. I know small thing, but at least it forces these super heat mechs to stay shutdown every once in a while.

Heck, you can put a 310 standard, 4 LL's and fill the rest with double heatsinks and it's pretty nice. There are just so many builds that are better than 6x PPC on the Stalker.

Try the 5M with 4 PPC, TAG, 5 streak (2t ammo), 280xl and 17dhs. No fear from any lights, just clip them with a chain fired ppc and streak them. I sometimes swap in a single ERPPC to poke at range. It makes alphas a lot trickier on tourmaline and caustic though. Easily my most successful mech, even after the splash fix.

The thing is, being shut down shouldn't negate the chance of explosion. Heat is the major balancing force in this game and it isn't being done right. Because it's not being done right, you get 6PPC builds that can core almost any mech out there, and they get to do so with impunity.
Once your heat hits a certain level, there should be a chance for component damage and ammo cook-off...regardless of whether or not you are shut down. Being shut down means you aren't generating heat but shouldn't magically ignore the massive amounts of heat already there.
This game will suffer with imbalance until heat is treated as it should. High heat levels should affect the pilot through "graying out", loss of weapon convergence, delayed firing, loss of IFF, loss of radar, loss of ECM and module effects, loss of vision systems and most importantly by critical hits to internals such as engines and weapons.
Only when heat has the effect it should will we see balanced loads and tactical shifts where players actually have to think about what they are doing instead of just firing until a heat shut down.
