So what sort of balancing issues do you think it'd bring in?

Simple examples: Tanks have a 360 turret and mechs do not. Aircraft can strike from angles where mechs can't aim.

Different play styles in combination is a balance nightmare - keep it simple and appreciate the giant robots. If I wanted to drive a tank I would play WoT. Besides if you really want to experience combined arms BF3 is pretty much the best right now.

Hopefully, this will never occur in this game.

Im thinking a MOBA styled mode would actually make a bit of sense and give some direction, as well as potentialy add some cool game mode ideas.

Infantry: Capture structures and relay information.

Armor: Anti-infantry with some light Anti Mech capability. Cannot capture structures but can transport infantry.

Obviously this would work for a bigger game maps and with some capability to respawn and or repair/rearm.

Infantry being the only thing to capture a base in this mode would be interesting.

For some odd reason, I can imagine it being 12 v 1, that solo mech gets surrounded, legged with no where to go, out of ammo and energy weapons destroyed.

And all 12 alpha strike.

That would be excessive, yes.

Oh, I'm referring to NPC vehicles and infantry. Do you think they(garrissons/reinforcements) would offer any challenges to balance?

The only major differences I can think of is that lights would have an additional role of taking out vehicles, and LRM boats/snipers might get a tiny bit more defense.

From this point forward, no mech shall be allowed to equip more than 2 of any single weapon...

...Except for Flamers and Machine Guns...

Troll of the day..
Or got killed by the stock Hunchback-4P too often to count... And almost every other stock-variant of some mechs :)

So, an overkill refers to a shot that not only kills an opponent, but also wastes excess resources(heat, ammo, caliber) in doing so. One example is hitting infantry with a ppc.

In MWO the only enemies right now are mechs, and so there's little to no possibility that an alpha-strike on a mech will result in overkill. If it does(headshot with 3ppc), there are not enough enemies to make such an occurrence even a slight hassle, much less a reason to run a mech with smaller alpha-strikes in exchange for more heat or ammo.

Taking on a column of small tanks, for instance, might be more efficient with 2 LRM15's rather than 2 LRM20's.

So I'm curious what you guys think,
How will 12v12 effect the size of alpha-strikes in builds?
How will the introduction of vehicles/infantry effect this?

12v12 will not change load outs. No need to conserve ammo- you have 4 extra teammates who are also shooting.

No way of knowing how infantry/vehicles would effect the game. What are they armed with? How good are they at hitting light mechs? A platoon of infantry using streak mechanics would be pretty scary for a light mech I suppose. Is the poor flamer/MG destined to be an anti-infantry weapon again? That would be pretty sad. Especially since lasers are now DOT and could theoretically be swept through enemy units and kill multiple foes, so who would need them?

3 PPC headshot isnt even kill, let alone overkill.

Not to be a stickler, but 3 PPCs won't headshot a mech. There's 18 points of armor and 16 of internals (up from 3 from the TT). You need 34pts of damage to headshot a mech, whether it is an Atlas or Commando. Unless of course they don't have the full 18 armor.

In addition a Tank in BattleTech is slightly tougher then you give it credit. Some are capable of shrugging off 2 LRM15s. Especially if they were ever placed in MWO with the double armor values. Something like a Demolisher would be an utter terror on the battlefield. Hitting something smaller such as a Swiftwind or Harasser would be quite tough.
