Once NPC Vehicles (Tanks, Elementals, etc.) are implemented in the game, I think it would be interesting to allow players to take control of one of these vehicles and still participate in the battle.

These vehicles would serve as a way for dead players to continue to contribute to the battle, and individual vehicles wouldn't necessarily pose a huge threat to even a Light Mech.

However, the combat value of a few properly piloted vehicles could (potentially) swing the tide of the battle and help further prevent the occasional team-roll that still happens.

Sounds fine except for the ability to shoot at the active mechs. Perhaps some sort of tank/battle armor mini game with the other dead players. Not something we really need right now and the dev team has other things to do.

Cool, we might even get a better Eject animation, and you have to run on foot to a tank? That could be very cool!
I agree with you BladeSplint, that would be better, it might be a bit anoying having them running around the place shooting at you. Love the Elemental idea!

I was not aware that the Devs had said anything other than "maybe but most likely no" regarding such vehicles.

As far as I know, they did say they were NOT going to put in vehicles, infantry, etc.

If they are thinking about it, my suggestions is .... DON'T.

Besides, I can see it now... round starts, and half the team suicides so they can play bumper cars with the tanks instead of helping the team.

Nop. Death should be final and not have a sweet little bonus afterwards.

Aside from what was already pointed out (this is mechwarrior and not tankwarrior or helicopwarrior), having the ability to freely pilot another vehicle after death means that those players can see more than supposed, than thus relay information to the living - even more than now. And we all know that information can easily turn a losing battle to an amazing win. I believe that's something the devs said that they will try to avoid at all cost.

No it wouldn't. It'd just be a particularly cheesy workaround for the "OMG TDM + respawn" addicts.

Want to keep fighting? Don't die.

You can play after death by leaving the game and launching with a different mech. The idea of having a separate game for those who have died strikes me as a pretty ridiculous idea.

Anyways, this game is about piloting mechs. I quite enjoyed driving tanks and taking those showboating mechs down a notch in MWLL, but adding random tank reinforcements after people die would take a significant amount of work and greatly throw balance off.

the idea that you can 'control' something other than spectator mode after dying is an interesting one.

as far as the player continuing to fight after death in a vehicle, IMO as the games stands right now and as we understand it will be for the next 6 months this is a firm NO IMO. once you are dead you are dead.

as far as a 'free camera' or 'vehicle camera' after death i would love to see this in NONE-RANKED games. allowing a 'dead' enemy team member to serve as an Intel gatherer should be as minimal as possible in any game that wishes to have a competitive scene, something that i strongly wish to be a part of MWO in the future. (yes i know a competitive scene 'exists' but its spectator quality atm is understandably very very poor)

That said i would love to see a tournament spectator/commentator feature, ideally one that would allow the spectator/commentator to see everything on the battlefield as well as observe from any mech in the game or a free cam (for those awesome cinematic style shots :P ) maybe with an option to have a (variable?) delay for the spectator/commentator to keep at a minimal leaking intel. such a feature would hopefully go hand in hand with a replay feature so that when we have those hero moments we can share them, or use the replays to review team tactics.

This sounds like something that would complement Solaris well. However, that is apparently a long way off.

a very very long way off :( there is an iddy biddy chance a spectator mode will come with lobbies, from my understanding a basic spectator mode would be 'relatively simple' but that the replay system would have to be made more or less from scratch and more likely than not take a performance hit. but that's just from small understanding of the cryengine and coding, i could be completely wrong.

Sounds like a Grievers paradise.

"We are dead! Well not really. When we are 3 we can stick and hold an Atlas in a corner and he cannot shoot down on us. LOL!

as much as that does sound fun, it's already been stated that it gives too much to someone who is "dead" in the match. i dont want that light i just killed to continue running around relaying info to teammates.

IF it went in i'd certainly want the tanks to be nearly incapable of damaging a mech, as it would be sad to loose a mech to the 5 guys in tanks that we already killed.

Yup, a dead pilot could drive around the map telling his team mates where the enemy all are.. ..no thanks.

Pros and cons to this, i like the idea. preferably the part of the elemental suit. Make it like the suit have weak or nerfed damage. Then the suit will have to be purchased for it to have effect. For the ejection of the pilot.

Tanks on the other hand i'd have to agree, if 5 guys in tanks manage to down a mech. would change the tide of the battle. But seriously, tanks with low armour wont be able to survive quite long. Plus tanks, elemental will appear on the radar as targets.

Slower mech will get harassed by them. But seriously this is a team game. lone wolves will usually get taken out easily rite? with or without these extra 'things' the game will go on.

Players can choose to view the match or participate as cannon fodder.

The developers can choose to add these things to increase the play value or not to.

What ever happens the mechwarrior universe is still growing. Heck we have the titan class coming in, anything can happen.

Would be fun, if they only get machine guns, flamers, small pulse lasers, SRM 2s, LRM 5s that wouldn't be so bad.

Greetings all,

If you are still interested in a "place to go after ejection or death" might I suggest the option to "man" defensible weapons at your Base or Resource. If not manned by ejected pilot players, then the opposing team can "just walk in" as they do now. [read non automated weapons systems]

If manned, then they may just stop that last mech, and provide a "Win" to the match. (I'm not talking crazy weapons here, probably Med laser or the standard PPC, only for defensive use)

PGI has stated that they are looking into "non player controlled" assets on the battle grid. (most likely automated sentry's and sensors though)

Just thinking out loud, as it would provide a place for the downed pilot to go that would not interfere or cause "abuse". [read two sets of eyes in each mech, or heaven forbid the 3rd person view after death]

Later,
9erRed
