Woflhound!!

Heavy armor, decent speed and all energy weapons make me a VERY happy camper.

Updated with new IS tech as the world evolves and I'm even happier when I get to add double heat sinks and MASC/Jump Jets!

No, it was designed by the people who designed the game. Way back when it was FASA, then Wizkids, and now Catalyst Game Labs. There are no "Fanon" mechs. The closest that happens are the ones from MW4 and the Deimos that were from video games that got canonized by the publisher.
You can even go to the CBT website and check out the whole forum they have devoted to fan made designs, and the rule that none of the developers will be looking at that forum for inspiration.

But offtopic, you'd find me in a Locust 1E until the Wolfhound shows up.

Locust and Wolfhound... interesting choices. Seems to be the favs of lots of people here. Anyone ever heard of the Koto? It's a light mech (25tons) that makes its appearance in Battletech 3055 manual, and it seems to blend those two mechs rather well. At first, it's a Solaris mech (because of it's X-Pulse laser), but with just a LITTLE tweaking to the design, could easily be put into the game as a Locust-replacement, if they can't get the license(s) for the Locust.

On a different note: I guess you're assuming the designers of this game aren't people, just like you and me?

Like a lot of others. Given how lasers are DoT in MWO this is one possible variation I came up with, it runs hot, but heat management is always necessary with energy mechs. Hopefully pulse lasers will work in game.

VLK-QA 1x Medium Laser and 1x LRM 10. moves at 5/8/5, Perfect lance commander mech with the ability to soften a target moving in or discouraging pursuit using the LRM's. and enough armor to slug it out for a bit. One of the best light mechs pre 3050 imo.

Easily a Wolfhound. All energy, long range platform. Heavy armor for its weight class that can weather damage, and stay for extended periods in the battlefield before pulling out.

The Spector for me. We didn't gain access to it till the 3058 TRO, but its an old SLDF design. If that doesn't fit the bill, then a Wolfhound will do

Panthers have always been a solid light mech. but im wondering what would it be like with a few locusts in a wolf pack and srm instead of the lrms? they have enough speed that not much can run from them anyways.

While technically NOT a circa 3050-design, the Owens doesn't really have any tech that isn't available in 3050. The only problem with it is that it IS an omnimech (IS design omni), but depending on how easily the Jenner can be upgraded and what you're planning to arm it with, I guess it's not totally out of the realm of possibility. Still, try to keep everything in 3025-3050 timeframe... say, no later than 3051 production date, seeing as that's when the Clans invade and take out a majority of the Houses ability to produce new mechs.

Locust, hands down. It's one of the go-to mechs in canon. Beyond that, I have, on more than one occasion, blown my BV on a fist full of Locusts and wolfpacked assault lances. If you're willing to take the casualties, there is very, very little you can't do with a bunch of them.

Farmer, you might like this mech called the Koto. It's a great little light mech, all-laser tech, fast, based on the Locust design. ONLY problem with including it here is that it's circa 3055, which is past the timeframe I wanted included here. Still, with just a TINY bit of modification, a Locust could be changed into one of these. Check out the link. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Koto

It also fills in the need for a faster Wolfhound... just fyi, all of ya'll Wolfhound fanatics. :)

I know what the Koto is. It's not a field 'mech, though, so it isn't really useful here. And it's a variant offshot of the Locust, so it doesn't make much sense to include it before the Locust. Especially given the incredible effectiveness of the Locust.

Commando is by far my favorite although I think the Panther or Wolfhound are generally better.

Locust!! If we're going to run around in a light mech i want to be fast enough to be a damn hard target to catch.
