also, now that i think of it, when a limb with hs become submerged in water, it effectively makes those hs twice as good, so if a mech with 4 std hs in its legs stand in water, it effectively gets another 4 hs during the time its in water, thats all i know tho

AFAIK it's proportional to the % of the part of the body under water (submarine JRs have insane heat efficiencies... not to mention the impenetrable missile shield)

Indeed, and crawl with 32/4 = 8 kph to your enemy, then lay down your insane 7 dps on it. It won't flee. It'll be either too perplexed or laughing too hard to move.

that insane huh? wait, how would an atlas with 1 small laser do 7dps?!?!!? the laser itself does 1dps

ha, youve overestimated me, big mistake ;)

i play world of tanks, 8 kph doesn't scare me

i guess its easy to over estimate it, just look at that beast!

what do you think the heat eff in game would be?????? lol like 20

if a cataphract moving at 33kph works in pugs, im sure an atlas moving at 1kph less wont be much worse, if at all

Simple answer: It doesn't.

the phract had 3 large pulses, 2 srm 6s, and an ac/20 also max armor

its only real weakness was lrms when they had broke splash dmg that tore it apart

Or anything else with range, since all of it's weapons are short range and even an Atlas could run circles around it all day. Or a light mech than it will never, ever get off it's butt. Or a medium mech with decent speed. Or, for that matter, anybody with a brain.

you can't argue with the fact i was saying it was effective, not would be

all you need to do is know how to drive a slow mech

also have to use cover to get in close, and ac/20 works up to 810m, just doesn't do full dmg

don't hate on an example ;)

Yes, these builds would not have a chance in combat to accomplish anything of note for many of the reasons given, and many under 100% efficiency builds would never overheat during the timespan of a real match. Getting the maximum DPS possible is a good thought experiment for creative mech building but these armorless, slow moving mechs just wouldn't have the time in a real match to actually show off the DPS advantage even as a joke.

So how about a fresh challenge - highest firepower. Unlike the DPS builds you could actually pilot a glass cannon build and get a real kill for the fun of it (the AC/20 Cat is already borderline glass cannon with its slow speed and short range, but it has proven to work).

The rules are simple:
  • Must have an engine
  • Must have at least 10 heat sinks (including those in the engine)
  • Must have enough ammo to fire all weapons once (in practical terms this is 1 ton of each ammo type used)
Finally, as a loose rule all weapons must be able to hit for full damage on a target at a range of your choice. That means you can't mix small lasers and LRM20s, since they can't do full damage to the same target at once.

Here is an example that hits a target for 107.5 damage from 675m, though I think that it would actually shutdown before it did all that damage (it generates 81.5 heat over 1 second, but the mech can only handle 40, so it would probably shutdown and prevent the lasers from doing full damage)

well pfft, its easy to make that kind of mech, and if it produces that much heat, it will explode the moment you alpha strike XD

i improved my heat dissipating monster:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...237775a90954b79

now it has one er ppc, 149% heat eff, and 55 hs!! slower but way more armor :P

if only there was one weapon i could build that kind of set-up around, like a constant firing heavy weapon
