It's funny that this crap is even considered as 'tactics'.

We dont get Pop tarts here ( at least not that I have seen) Do they even taste nice? Some of the flavours I've heard of just sound plain Nasty.

They're yummy. They're junk food though :)

I actualy logged into bug warrior online last night, I REALLY want to get my second mech all the basics and get some Cbills to buy a third mech and work on elites!

Me and Janitor were the first to discover the enemy

This is what we saw

We told our team to get cover and cap, they did.

615 tons of poptart and 60 tons of dragon versus 535 tons of mech, and still we won.

They QQEd ENDLESSLY about us winning by cap rather than death marching to theta so they could kill us, much lulz were had by all.

Just a quite note to the other players out there...

If you are going to hang out on a ridge and pop-tart with your team of "Soft Rocks" and 3Ds, if we decide to run and cap your base, don't whine. If we hang out behind a rock until you get bored, don't whine. If our ECMs just run around and pester you, don't whine.

Your tactic is just as annoying as you think ours is.

Well said. We ran into a full lance of Atlai + two Stalkers (thank you ELO FFS) that were setup in a superior sniping position close to their base on Alpine. We quickly noted that we were screwed if we took the most direct approach as they had no reason to move. So, we spent 2 minutes swinging around from the southern approach. We still took sniper fire (we had snipers, just not as many) but we were able to get into base to start capping which forced them to respond. They did and as luck would have it, they responded in two waves, which helped to nullify their tonnage advantage. We still lost in the end, but we made it close. Frankly it was a very fun match and one where I almost appreciated the ELO imbalance (more experienced group out weighed by a presumably less experienced group).

Yep so funny when you get 6 mechs sitting back poptarting, and you get 2 of your lights skirt the map and win by cap and they rage at you.

Yep, that's what they deserve for trying to min-max one particular tactic. A well-balanced team is much more versitile and functional than any one tactic being "boated" by an entire team. And as more counters are created (like airstrikes and artillery) to discourage standing around in one place for too long, the days of stand-off, thumb-twiddling non-engagements will start to fall away in favor of more mobile engagements.

Yeah, it's shocking how many Highlander HMs are out there. I can't imagine PGI has done anything other than spectacular with the sales of it, which is almost a shame given its mediocrity and price. The last thing we should be doing is encouraging more Pretty Baby type mediocre hero variants, and yet here we are again.

Maybe he's looking for advice against pop-tarting.........like move and shoot.

Most folks who pop-tart do it again from the same spot. Least thats what I do when I do it.

I never had problem vs a pop-tart. Wish someone had a video of being pop-tarted :)

You know it had to be bad for someone to post about it. Prob just a phase with the highlanders...... are they worst then 3Dz?

I disagree with you, sir. As one who purchased a Pretty Baby (holding off on the HM until framerates are fixed) i do not find it to be mediocre. If fact, i have better games with a PB than the 9M or any other variant.

This. Heavy metal poptart = fat pink 3D, basically. Everyone wants to try one out since it's the new robot, but it's just FOTW. But for now...

You Buy a Hero Mech for the Awe not the stats. YLW is a less flexible Hunchback. But It belonged to two Heroes! Pretty Baby admittedly belonged to a warrior of note but not cause she was a hero per se. Rhonda Snord... Was a known hero. Made it into a scenario pack, and a couple books, I would rather have seen Davis McCall's Highlander, but it is said to be a standard build. I don't care it is the Mech of a Black Watch warrior. ANd should have been available, or should be soon. The thing about a Hero Mech (to me) Is who drove it. Not what it will do for me so much.

I've Mastered both and the PB doesn't hold a candle to the 9M so far. When I feel like I can spare 6 million c-bills on a whim, I'll see if a 400XL makes enough of a difference to change my mind. But considering the firepower reductions that would require, I'm doubtful it will.

I'm always happy when I see a PB because it means I didn't get matched up against a DDC/RS/Stalker.

All tactics are legit, as long as you aren't using hacks or anthing..alls fair.

Is poptarting cheesy, well..yes, it is.

Is the all raven 3L, Cicada 3m, Atlas DDC, train cheesy..yes it is.

However, this is just opinion. And despite what my personal biases are, towards these tactics and others (splat cats) they are legit in the game as it currently is.

Having said that...if you go really heavy, and try to "rush" into brawling range...

If you bring strawberry poptarts, 3'ds...etc...

And the enemy flat out manevers you and caps. ....well..guess they played better huh?

The CAP in asault (and in conquest) is an equalizer.

Mechwarrior is not about turrets, shooting each other, LRM boats blasting each other on either end of the map, or poptarts.

It is MOBILE warfare.

Is poptarting valid..yes. But does it accomplish THE MISSION/Goal.

I have yet to meet someone who can do this accurately with out completely minimizing there movement in flight. Making them incredibly easy targets. And even then, the hits I take are never really consistent.

I guess your ELO is too low to pair you with good players?

The major issue with pop-tarting is that it changes game play from a "ridge line" defense or offense into more of a "hide behind cover" constantly. Imagine right now how the game would be if LRM's were viable? between pop-tarts and LRM's you would almost never come out of hiding.

I actually think LRM's are the answer to pop-tarts ... just need the*lock* to hold longer and be stronger. Then if a pop-tart shows, they get locked and get several dozen LRM's hitting them would make them be more defensive in nature.

Umm, I don't get it, are you bashing people for jump-sniping? A tactic thats been around since MW first came out?

If so, then you get the award for the most pointless thread ever.

I think he is complaining about the qq and whinners when someone runs for cap... orevery other tactic used to spoil poptart.

And I agree.. even when I have a dedicated build for pop-tarting and use it when I'm done with my beloved cents

Play. Adapt. Conquer.

No, it's a case of someone who responded before reading the entire post.

Have you ever used LRMs or seen them used? Pop-tarts are about the worst possible targets for them, as they're usually right behind cover that they will be safely nestled against long before missiles can get there.

The answer to Pop-tarts is brawlers with brains enough not to approach across the killing field and the speed to flank them.

the fun thing about pop tards is getting behind them via all that cover they never see over cause htey hide in one place, then shooting them in the back for enough dmg that they fall over dead hehe.

as for the heavy metal being mediocre, not really, it can fit a goodly amount of artemis lrms, 3 energy weapons and 2 guns

so far my favorite setup is dual lrm 15s artemis, gauss, 3 med lasers for when they wanna brawl. i run a 300 engine and dhs, doesnt have shutdown issues on any map. dropped the JJ for ammo, since pop tarding is stupid.

my dual er ppc 6 mgun jaeger also excells at flanking and spanking pop tards with its 83 kph speed and low profile.
