Why should anyone believe OP with his 8 posts and no founders, about how he "flocked" to the game?

this just sounds like another "OMG TEH BUGS AND A STORE!" thread.

Not sure if the OP is still following this thread, but I played in the Starlance league for MW3/MW4 as well as the NBT4 planetary league. I loved those leagues and without them those games would have had very little online presence. MWO seems to have a very solid foundation for gameplay but is seriously lacking support for league based competitive play. I know the developers have stated that team based gameplay support is coming, but I think they are losing some player interest in the game because some of us have been waiting for these features for a very long time. I don't know if I'm the only one that feels this way, but I'm getting bored of the random team matches and have really been looking forward to organized competitive team play with some kind of league support.

Which takes time to do. Now they can either have to code it twice or just once with UI2.0. The MW games took more than a year to make, I am sure. Patience!

PGI's only screwing themselves with their bad decisions. And most of the white knights in this thread are either 1) completely dillusional and/or 2) completely a'ok with another MW title with such a tiny community of grognard only "mech pros" that PGI goes banckrupt.

What a cluster...

Well, it's incredibly difficult to take this seriously. I mean, c'mon, "the game is doomed, because..." bugs and selling things. What part of that isn't ridiculous. Delusional would be expecting a beta build to be bug free. You have numbers on the size of the community? I sure as hell can't find anything like that.

Ok let me preface this by saying I was a major head designer for Earthseige 1, 2, and Starseige and I have to say, this game, while it has some bugs, is way better than that other guys supposedly created games.

Ooo, ooo, ooo! Sorry for the hijack, but let me take a moment to thank you for your work on Earthseige. Love those games.

They're screwing the community by generally bringing MechWarrior back into the public eye with a top-notch graphics engine and fun gameplay for....gasp.... no cost to you at all?! Yes, this line of thought is understandable. Dropping your cash to make your game better is generally considered pay-to-win, a very off-putting notion in the free to play business, unless I've mistaken your meaning in that. Ah, yeah now I remember, it's threads like these that turned me off to the General Forums and allowed me to play the game again, and see just how many great strides PGI's made in making a fun and free MechWarrior.

A top notch graphics engine they urinated on by making it run on DX9? :P

I was considering getting together with my code monkey flatmate and creating a "VL/SL" for MWO to address the lack of coordinated matches and get some competition going. It would take a fair bit of work as it would be a step up from the old VL/SL ladders and include a starmap and have conquerable planets.

All of that is fine and doable. What is not doable is MWO working with this kind of system as its impossible to coordinate drops in a reliable manner.

Other than that, yes PGI is absolutely slaughtering MWO, comparable to those family food business's you see that thrive and have great reputations, then the owners decide to retire and sell it off to.....people.... then the new people switch everything around for cheapness, so they have the same products but they taste like cardboard and the portion sizes are suddently 1/4th as big while at the same time the prices went up by 50%.

p.s - i won a paint tin full of snakes for doing an awesome coloring in picture about 20years ago. That makes me an expert on paint and i deserve respect/awe/wonder/fans.

I love playing this game even though I'm probably the worst player to post in this thread.
But.
As good as the graphics engine is, the implementation of it so far is ...not optimal.

This OP of this thread is based on one theme - PGI is making a game solely to reap profit at the expense of the gaming community. It does not contain anything constructive to help make the game better, and this discussion is just a big argument. It's being jettisoned.

I disagree.. MWO is the best multiplayer PC game based in the Battletech universe to date.. IMO of course.

Honestly I agree with you. It already has the best gunplay out of all of them.

The only thing you managed was servers. Managing servers is like servicing a vending machine: Show up once a week for 5 minutes just to make sure everything is in working order.

Once you actually contribute to Battletech in a meaningful way, please let me know..

Im not taking sides in this argument but do you really think being a server admin is that easy? or just a server admin in the capacity the OP described?

Ok let me preface this by saying I was a Starlance Head Admin for Mechcommander and MW4..PGI has/continues to screw this game sidewise to reap out as much profit as they can with as minimal service as they can possibly provide...and from the perspective of a person who helped run a league of 50,000+ active players...Players who continued to build mods, and new mechs after the developer had stopped supporting the game..

PGI you're kinda screwing the entire battletech community that has been waiting since EA's 3025 Battletech game for something "like this"...and have been screwed since Mircosoft decided to murder the mechwarrior/mechcommander series...We all waited a really long time for a good battletech game to come out..many of us jumped at this game thinking that it would be nigh impossible for PGI to screw up battletech given the community support that it has always received...and yet here we are..with a buggy game...that is so busy whoring content to make the developers rich that it has become World of Mechs...not Battletech...I for one having invested a considerable amount in this game due to the whole "OMG BATTLETECH" thing...am now left wondering if we're going to see PGI release a different title that is conspicuously well developed and funded...in the meantime...I dont really want to play a game that does nothing but make me wish Star Citizen gets done faster so i can play a game that actually has some concept of where its going..instead of "what content can we add that people will pay for"

I'm just wondering....are you stupid? Or do you need a reality check? If they don't have anything to sell, where will the money come to fund the testing/content for this game? If they were 100% F2P they would've got shut down in a couple of days because they would have no money. I for one gladly buy vanity items and hero mechs (and will for a long time to come) because they are neat and just make gameplay more fun (A mech that plays music when you kill someone, how awesome is that???). If you are gonna QQ about them making money to try to actually fund the game then don't let the door hit you on the way out. and I hate how ignorant QQers like you are because back in closed beta things were actually smooth, then Cry Engine 3 came out with an update and it completely f*cked up A LOT of their work. That is why the major bugs and lag shield were as bad as they were and why we have so many bugs now. Know your sh*t before you speak. Also people looking for help with the recent bugs (specifically polygon HUD) alt tabbing provides a temporary fix, though sometimes is persistent. Look at the most recent command chair post, hot fix is being dropped Friday for a lot of the bugs. Hope I was helpful.

This is a beta, open or closed. Bugs will surface and resurface. Until this is game is finished, you can't complain if there are some bugs. Bottom line, we get to play early and as a result also have to help test the game for pgi. If there's a bug, certainly report it, but don't whine about it and claim that pgi is screwing the pooch with bugs. There will be bugs; it's the point of a beta.
