Also, some of the top tier scrims use tonnage weight limits to make things interesting. 350t or 450t or whatever, then you see a variety of mediums. Is that indicative of a vanishing role for most mediums? Probably. At the end, why take a Hunchie when I can pilot a Phract and fill a similar role, just...better, unless there is some compelling reason to go lighter.
But we don't know all of what's coming down the pike for CW and maybe there will be artificial drop limits for some things.

Did they suddenly get tonnage added? I gotta read the patch notes.

Me and my buddy Duex got into it with one cent. Him in his SP me in a Cent. We blasted the horse poop but he wasn't going down. But a few post up stated an HD issue. I didn't realize HD is off with them too. Which is fine because it doesnt always happen. After we took him down though we were kind of bloody and goin poop the way we were nuking him he should've been dead shots ago. We ended up being beat up pretty bad after that encounter which now makes sense why.
Anywho being the Pious POS I am I guess I wont pilot Cents until Hd is fixed. I hate having a "Bug" advantage.

one screenshot where you did well dosent prove that the game dosent need a better weight balancing mechanic to make it more fair overall. I could pull up half a dozen 7 kill games between my a1 cheeze cat and cataprachts that would counter this arguement. Most with higher damage too. No 8 kills tho, someone always managed to get the last one from me.
There really isnt much point to trying to convince others anymore. Its like listening to an american soccer fan, getting excited about the big game they had against mexico where they managed to tie, and placing 37th overall in the world. If your happy with sub par standing, im not going to convince you otherwise
i must protest this most seriously...
america has soccer fans?

Without that, they just aren't. It's the way of BattleTech, always has been. Mediums don't excel at firepower/armor or speed/recon, but they do very well in the "Bang for your buck" category, which doesn't matter in an unrestricted drop environment.
If you've only got 450 tons to go around, you're going to need medium pilots.

Soccer is huge in every part of the world, and huge with those visiting or moving to America, helping popularize it. There's soccer fields all around here in LA. Not to derail the thread, just saying that we're finally joining the rest of the world on this one.

and there's been a few other times over the years where soccer was supposed to finally "make it" in america but still hasn't happened yet. most of the folk that i do know who watch it tend to root for other country's teams than the US one.

Back then I only piloted a Hunch and swore I'd never have other mech than Hunchs.
I quit Hunches after the Phracts came out.
All of a sudden Hunches had no role anymore.
The Phract is as fast but with more armor and more firepower.
Made the Hunch obsolete for me.
I bought me a Dragon and never returned to mediums.
I will give my Hunch 4SP another shot and see how it goes...

Futbol is the non-Anglo equivalent of watching common house flies fornicate on a beige wall...
Just say'n.

Now American Football or Rugby... Now we're talking.

Could that probably mean that PGI did a really good job in making all weight classes equally strong?
The lighter your mech, the more agile it is which is a huge advantage IF used right.
Sure if one stays side-by-side to his assault mates with his medium and eat hits which are supposed to be taken by his tankier brothers, then his medium mech is inferior.
But when he uses his speed to flank and devour the delicious back armour, then suddenly his medium is way more effective than any assault mech. The same is true for light mechs.
Role warfare is easy: As a medium or light pilot you have to be patient and let the assaults lead the charge. They are supposed to take the big hits, they are your tanks and distraction. You are supposed to be where the opponent want's you least: In their Flank/Back.
The reason Mediums seem bad for many of you is because in almost EVERY SECOND MATCH i see them leading the charge (because they are faster than assaults and can't wait for them to catch up) and taking the first big hits. My brain hurts everytime i see a medium peeking above that hill or around that corner first and then get shot to 80% or less health. Stop doing that and suddenly mediums are a strong force to be reckoned with.

And regarding lights: They have one great weakness which prevents them from being better than mediums: Their weak legs.
My Hunchy 4P and 4SP eats any light mech for breakfast, often with only 1-2 aimed shots to their legs.
And i have yet to see a heavy/assault mech that is as fast and nimble as a medium but wields better weaponry while still being more durable.
Those big engines take LOTS of tonnage which levels them to mediums especially when they have to use XL engines to be able to wield any relevant firepower while many mediums still pack quite some punch when both side torsos are gone.

I am a highly mobile dismantler. With a 92KPH speed and 45 pinpoint damage (which I can fire 3 times in a very short amount of time on a cold map), I can easily maneuver into an ideal flanking position and devour a limb. Most players take armor out of their legs to distribute elsewhere. Some players store ammo in their legs. 45 Damage to a leg often blows it straight out on anything save Assaults.
Sure, a Heavy mech can have the same firepower, but they lack the speed and maneuverability of my swayback. I have the speed to assist the Lights with capping and to help deal with enemy lights. I have the firepower to provide significant support to the main battle.
A medium mech does not do a particular thing better than other mechs, but a well-built one can move around the battlefield and fill multiple niches in a pinch.
