Spiders Are The Shiznit

funny, but i think playing assault mechs this whole time has made me an expert light mech pilot.
when i got in that spider the first thing i made sure of, was.. that it had ecm. there are a lot of RVN-3Ls and COM-2Ds using streaks out there and i didnt want to get eaten alive. i knew ecm is OP but i didnt care, i wanted it for protection against streaks.
then i got DHS and Endo steel. i then put inside it the biggest XL engine that fit and stuffed it with 3 pulse ML, 12 m of jetpacks and as many DHSs as i could
its a spider built for the kill. or should i say built for the troll (almost looks like a little troll too).
my first round with this was astonishing, i loved every little bit about it. FAST as hell, small and quick, dodging 4 AC2s like neo in the matrix, with no sweat. it was amazing, i even got 2 kills with it, which one of whom was a brand new pink hero mech. i was singing the music out loud as i had no in game speakers like the Heavy Metal does.
the only way this mech will be hard to play is if they bring back collisions.
until then, i think this little devil should be a lot more popular than it is right now.
i guess people think spiders arent capable mechs, maybe they think they can only scout.
but what i found out is that spiders are very dangerous, in a good match you can get up to about 500 damage and 3 maybe 4 kills with it.
anyone else had this expirience?
or maybe this is all do to the fact that my light class elo score is possibly low?

Raven 3Ls can breach 700 damage though, and JR7-Fs, 900... =D

Spiders have the capacity to be some of the best light fighters in the game.....unless the other guy has streaks. Which is why I advocate just removing streaks. They create so many problems I don't even care about fixing them anymore, i just want them gone until they can be fixed.
*Sigh*
I would love to run my spiders, commandos and jenners, you know all the other mechs without ECM + Streaks but honestly i've just given up, it is way to frustrating considering the sheer number of raven-3l's floating around out there.

The 5D is the best of the bunch, not only because it mounts ECM, but because it has a whopping three energy hardpoints.
The 5V only has two energy hardpoints (both in CT), and the 5K has one. And four useless ballistic slots.
It's nimble, sure. But that doesn't help you get damage and kills - and hence you won't get much XP/CB in them. My 5K has an average XP/match of only 350 or so.

ahh yes, forgot about the money part. devs should make it more profitable then.. i mean a good scout can mean the difference between victory and defeat.

I suspect streaks will get some minor changes after collision knockdowns are returned. All lights are currently a bit OP since they can just hug a larger mech that may not be able to aim low enough to hit them but if collision knockdowns were returned this would no longer be possible.
I still run the Raven 3L and will continue to do so until collision knockdowns are returned. Then I'll probably go back to my DDC when I can knock down all those lights that get too close to me.
My favorite trick is getting a single enemy light to follow me while 1 of my other corpmates is waiting out of sight in another 3L. Then he jumps in behind and we rip that enemy light apart in a matter of seconds.
Sorry, sometimes I just enjoy being mean to other lights. It's nothing personal.

Indeed it can, but sadly the game only rewards damage and kills. Scouting, relaying target info, TAGging/NARCing, capping etc gives only a trickle of XP/CB - while every point of damage you do gives XP/CB, and every kill/assist you make gives XP/CB twice if you're a bit lucky (Saviour/Defensive kills/assists).
There's almost zero incentive to run a light as anything other than a Striker in the current state of the game.

I guess right now I'm of the opinion that the Jenner gives me enough speed, so long as I'm not playing dumb, and since it has better armor and weapons payload it's better in all other respects (I agree with stjobe's argument).
However I can see that the Spider CAN be a great mech if it's in good hands and if the team it is in is willing to make use of the recon data it can gather.

can break 800 DMG on a really good match, but usually it stays around 500 DMG per match which is fine IMO for a hit & run playstyle. But then again....that's without ECM or streaks so maybe i'm i'm doing better than i think?

Besides, it's crazy fun to get to the highest point on Alpine or Tourmaline and jump as far as you can off them.
