Could Someone Explain To Me Why We Have Anti-Infantry Weapons In A Game That Has Never Remotely Intimated We Will Ever Face Infantry

They said in long future they wouldn't be against adding some sort of AI-mode where you fight tanks or maybe infantry, so who knows. If it's not buffed too much it might be useful if that ever happens.

Its funny how PGI can go by the book on some things and deviate entirely on others. Perhaps there are plans to buy special MG ammo with MCs...

try it on a moving mech in game, if you can, Tank. A single ballistic should confine it's damage to one location. I am still not convinced on PPCs doing this unless they have significantly improved their hit detection in the last month since I was able to get on regularly.
I will see what I can do. I will be running a Cataphract with some PPCs, but I will try and use just one at a time when I can. To the best of my knowledge I have not seen 1 PPC do damage to more than 1 location, but I will be honest and say that I have not been looking that hard either.
I will report back with what I find here, one way or the other.

I killed an Atlas with my 3 MGs on my Ilya this weekend. It was a 6 mech dogpile on an Atlas in Tourmaline. Everyone was laying waste to it so I decided it to chip in with my 3 MGs. It gave me the kill. I just stood there in shock that I got the kill. I guess I was lucky and critted the engine.

Small bit of knowledge on this MG / infantry thing: MGs suck, without Maxtech rules, at killing infantry. Bad. They're terrible at it. With MaxTech they're good at it, but again, it's not a core rule. People's perception comes from the fluff, which also states hilarious things like "A rear mounted small laser makes enemies think twice before approaching."
That said, MGs are WAY WAY worse here than TT. TT MGs have a terrible rep because of all the 'mechs that carry two + a ton of ammo as a nerf (risking ammo explosions for little benefit.) If any of you ever played one of those hilarious Solaris deigns with like 12 MGs, you'll know the gun - itself - is fine.
That's largely why I've been pushing the idea of MG Arrays so you can load MGs into them (like an engine with DHS), allowing you to bypass the Hardpoint limit without breaking the 'mech hard points.

I went back to WOT for a bit. But for the record I'm with the OP on this one. I'll drop back in to MWO from time to time to see how we're traveling, but as much as I prefer mechs to tanks it's lost me for now.

I took down an atlas with the spider's 4 MG's once.
He was AFK in his base.
I went to his rear end.
By the time I took him down my team had destroyed the rest of his team.
/ joy

The rules have been updated quite a bit since maxtech. MGs doing significantly more damage to infantry (along with flamers, small pulse lasers, etc) is part of the core rule in Total Warfare now. Of course they still do full damage to mechs, so there's no reason for them not to in this game.

We have to consolidate all the threads on Machine Gun feedback because there's too many of them at present. Please continue here.
