Im so happy someone else is having success with this build. I have been preaching about this giant shock trooper for months. Having that kind of firepower on your arms alone with full jump jets at 90 tons is just too good IMO. Its not uncommon to go well above 800 damage with 5+ kills while PUB stomping. Good hunting and keep spreading the word :D

Hello,

Not bad. First effective use of the Highlander's jump jets I've seen. I also run an HM but only use one jet to get over obstacles. The tonnage saved from the other four is used on the 300 Standard engine.

Because I honestly fail to see why you'd dump an XL onto an Assault, let alone a Highlander. You have the speed, but all it takes if for someone to chew up your gauss arm and then crit your side torso.

Argh, you beat me by two damage! Though I did mine with eight mechs instead of 12 so I suppose I still win >_>....

So what HM builds are people running in the new-Gauss-firing-mechanic eta? I've tried to play my HM a bit recently and quite frankly I'm getting creamed. The Gauss really doesn't work for me anymore on this mech. Any suggestions?

I swapped over to this:

Not as much fun as the gauss and gives up some range for speed, but it still performs very well (still one for my favorite mechs). Heat is very manageable even of the hottest maps. Sadly I had to remove the gauss off many builds since I like to run long range weapons off the mouse wheel, and the gauss doesn't work w/o a macro.

Thanks. Looks like I'll need to base it on the AC/10 (or 2 AC/5s) as the primary weapon. I may also go back to 3 LLs, that was pretty effective before ghost heat.

What bums me out though is that the HM used to be a mech I could solo pretty well. Now I feel like I need teammates to be able to do any good. It's kind of depressing because I feel like the HM was designed to pack a Gauss (w/o the recent firing mechanic). Now it feels like a totally different mech (in a bad way). As a concession for the Gauss nerf, I really wish PGI would remove the arm actuator do we could mount an AC/20. That would solve all my problems actually.

I miss the Gauss Rifle but I saw the twin AC2 builds and seen people have success so I decided to give it a try. Saw how wimpy twin AC2s look on HeavyMetal so I upgraded to the next thing that I could fit, twin AC5s.Give this mech a try I guarantee that it will put a smile on your face; it has plenty of firepower, armor, and acts like a slow heavy. http://mwo.smurfy-ne...acf0ab06de901e8 is what I use since I didn't feel like buying endo-steel but you can use this http://mwo.smurfy-ne...cb195f4eb92db93 if you have endo.
