I think 3 out of 5 matches I play, my team or both teams are scared or something. I hoped MechWarrior Online would attract the type of player who can think fast but I'm sensing a lot of old timers behind the keyboard, really taking their time and really worried about losing a mech for a few minutes.

For me its ruining the game because I'm the guy who takes the enemy on hard. I move fast and I think fast. Strategy includes moving fast and attacking. Yet I constantly see teams holding back on a terrain line.

Like the match I just played, my entire team stopped advancing on to the high ground. Where we could have sat taking shots at the other teams heads as they pop out. The other teams weapons wouldn't hit us so frequently because they are behind cover. DOH. It's a sound tactic yet my hid behind a ridge and the other team hid behind a ridge.

WTF?!

Please consider your entire teams movement in this game. Do not huddle together behind a rock or a ridge. Your weapons arc needs to be clear if you want to hit and you need to be able to see your target. Common sense. There is no point ***** footing around as if you can win by doing nothing but keeping out of the way.

Staying in cover, and shooting mechs that skyline themselves on a ridgeline is a valid tactic. High ground isn't always the best option.

If your having trouble getting a random group of people on the same page. Try joining the team speak server. Or find yourself a House/Merc group.

i seem to have the opposite problem, lots of cocky pilots running out in the middle of a battle getting torn to shreds...

Yeah joining a House/Merc/Clan is the best way. Most times - the team who assesses the situation and pushes hard will most likely win 90% of the time. If they encounter stiff resistance, they get in cover, and try to hit the flanks and pick off loose mechs first.

But yeah, huddling behind ridge/rock/bldg etc is the worst thing you can do.

exactly what is an "old timer" and how do you know they were the ones huddling behind the rock in your last match?

Yes, but huddling behind the buildings that are behind the ridge because you're afraid the mechs skylining themselves might shoot back, is not a valid tactic. It's not a tactic at all, just cowardice. The same goes for the people that consistently try to engage at ranges so great their Gauss are only doing 2-3 damage.

There's a difference between using cover and hiding.

There is a difference between running into open ground and hugging some land right infront of your mech. There is no line of site, it gives the other team the chance to take the high ground which is usually better when there is a cap point right there. So the team who doesn't hide both gets a cap and free range to shoot at the other team.

It's common sense its not even a tactic or strategy. I don't get why players are playing like this World of Tanks and rolling their mech backwards and forwards, popping their Mech head above ground then firing only to hit the ground lol

Large Lasers, PPC and Gauss are the favoured weapons of the moment. Heavy and Assault mechs are the favoured mech, it seems. Is it any surprise opposing pilots are using cover?

I hate young cocky pilots who take no account of their team and just leeroy face first into the enemy, i really hate that as it then screws the rest of the team over!

In theory I agree but its all pug teams right now ain't it. I could flank but I'd be on my own. I end up taking on the entire team and my team still don't take that chance to hit them in the back while they are on me. Seen it happen loads of times.

Yet I watch my team and someone else is flanking I get my ******* of the trench fast. Still end up with 4-5 players hardly doing anything, just waiting and hoping the enemy come to them.

Sure comms are a solution, I use headset but I'm struggling to get anyone on C3 which I want to support. I've had years of TS and vent. Going on there just gives some child the opportunity to tell me some rules or how to talk, screw that lol

Check out the NA server, you'd be surprised my friend. I'm on there daily, and in almost 6 months of random grouping I've yet to even hear a child, let alone get mouthed at by one. Besides, if someone is mouthing, quit match & join another group.

I don't think C3 is gonna get the support it needs, sadly.

ETA: If i'm guessing correctly, i'm usually more annoying (talkative) than most people I play with. If someone asks me to stop, I'll stop, as will most i've played with.

Then stop playing pug matches. We all know pugs are bad. There's no use whining about them.

TBH though, if you keep rushing into the enemy alone while the rest of the team sits back.... ever thought about adjusting to what the rest of the team is doing instead of just complaining that they don't do what you want?

If I see that my pug team rushes, I rush with them. If I see them stand off and hide, I hide with them. If I see them split in pin/flank manouver, I join one of the groups. Quick adaptation to a random group is the key to having good pug matches.

Often times if it seems as though people are just milling waiting for something to happen, i'll purposely charge in and drag the enemy back into what turns into a makeshift ambush. Your teams just sitting around? Make something happen.

This is where your OP failed. You made the assumption that "old timers" can't think fast and play fast.

That said, if OP didn't want to play with "old timers", boy did he ever pick the wrong franchise.

i have to say it ****** me off no end when people just rush in and get killed.
what somepeople call hiding in a huddle others call making a plan.

many times have my team on ts been sitting there in cover calling targets and making a gameplan when boom, some douche just runs out and get face *****.
and we are sitting there like, great just throw your mech away, not only that but thanks for giving away our possition dumb arse.

if your in a light or something then why would you be hiding with the heavies unless your a support mech.
use your brain op, buy a light with ecm and be a scout ffs, help your team, they are waiting in cover for a target to lrm or snipe or some valid info on enemy possitions so fill that gap dont just charge in head first, it wont help you or your team.

I'm always greatly amused by players who apparently get impatient after a 1-2 minute standoff. They usually go charging off and dying in short time, while the rest of the team continues to fight for another 10-15 minutes. It's probably a symptom of the Counterstrike/Call of Duty generation: "LOL i ahevn't shot my laz0rs for more than 20 seconds!!1 boooring! gogogo!!1!"

I think that is something that was lost when R&R was taken away, justifiable fear, which can be really thrilling. Now it would pay to bullhorn every mission, but to me that doesn't feel real, and I still roleplay as if my mech is valuable. Which drives people like you, understandably, crazy.

And I'm not old, I'm 24.

Several times I have been engaging an enemy with my team mates, we see a moment to corner the enemy out in the open, charge in, guns blazing, only to have them retreat on me like a bunch of little *******, leaving me in the lurch. Seriously, only 1 in 10 players I encounter even have the slightest inkling about team mate support. They are probably more concerned about their KDR than helping other players. It's shameful.

Having in game team based comms will assist in making the more selfish players aware of when they can help their team mates, even when it's bleeding obvious. If they still refuse to team play, they should expect much snubbing of noses when CW comes around.
