So i was reading "A Brief History of the Inner Sphere", and the following paragraph caught my attention:

Quote

[...]The war of 3039 accomplished little for those who fought it, save to remind the Successor States of the severe cost of war. A few words changed hands, but the balance of power remained the same. Aside from an assault in 3041, in which the Tenth Lyran Guards took the world of Skondia from the Combine, the states of the Inner Sphere seemed content to rebuild their realms in peace. Military readiness and overcharged rhetoric still ruled the day, but the Successor States had - at least temporarily - grown tired of war. The Inner Sphere rebuilt during ten years of peace, which ended abruptly on 13 August 3049.

So, one day here equals one day on MW:O, and the current year over there is 3049. Which means that for all intents and purposes today is June 4th 3049.

I never really read much Battetech fiction, but if we have to fight on MW:O then that means that the Successor States cannot be at peace. And if "peace ended abruptly on 13 August 3049" does this means that this is when the fight starts?

And by the way, what exactly happened on 13 August 3049? After that paragraph it says that on that same year a famous detachment from the Kell Hounds succumbed to "a mysterious fighting force on a godforsaken planet known as The Rock. Casualties included Phelan Kell[...]listed as missing, presumed killed, but the Inner Sphere did not learn his true fate until several months later."

Then the next hard date from that text is "In March of 3050, the Clans struck in force[...]"

So is it possible that 13 August 2012 is the MW:O actual release date? Let the theories begin.

On Aug 13, Phelan Kell was captured by Clan forces while hunting pirates in the Periphery, and Battletech started it's long, downhill slide.

Dun dun duuun. Very nice, OP. Yeah, I remember reading that, and wondering why it was so sketchy on what exactly happened. As you said, the next hard date isn't until March 3050. So the release date (theorized) would coincide with "contact on the Periphery," which is definitely a Red Letter Day in BattleTech.

And with the Founders getting "early access," it's almost exactly a month before the date you mentioned. I think it would work well.

EDIT

I won't argue this with you, but I began with MW3, so the Clans have sort of always been around in my head. I agree that by the end of the FedCom Civil War, things were getting screwy, but I still find the Clans to be sort of interesting. An outside, galvanizing force. At least they didn't use aliens or something. I AM still very interested in stuff prior to the Invasion, though. The true "Classic" BattleTech stuff.

i "grew up" with the 3025 era, and mostly our TT/RPG campaigns played in those timelines, but i liked the stories behind the clans somehow...(conflicts between Wardens/ Crusaders, just to call1) just later, starting with MW4 (even if it had it´s pros) so around the 3070´s it started to drift away from what i enjoyed in Battletech, not to mention all that scary things like DA and what not...the whole storyline took a weird direction in my eyes...

is 13th August a possible releasedate? yes, but that´s just speculations...they could release earlier( which i´d prefer^^) or even later if there are certain problems coming up...

On August 13th 3049, the Kell Hound's Third Battalion fought a running battle with elements of Clan Wolf on The Rock while hunting pirates who used the planet as their base of operations. Though the Hounds fought with their typical skill and tenacity, they were no match for the superior weaponry and skill of the Clan pilots; eventually the entire battalion was destroyed. However, Phelan Kell, son of Morgan, would be taken captive by the Wolves and rise through the ranks of the Wolf Clan to eventually stand as one of their Khans.

It's a date that probably has zero impact on MW:O.

I'm not sure ... From that specific source, up until 13 august 3049 all the successor states were at peace. We cannot very well take arms against one another unless if everyone is at peace.

And that this source would specifically say that peace lasted until that specific date ...

From a diligent spy raiding the ComStar historical archives:

Quote

Invasion Begins

While March 3050 is considered by most the opening of the Clans’ invasion
the opening shots were fired eight months earlier. Sweeping through the pirate
nations of the coreward Periphery, the invading Clans met little to no appreciable
opposition. Their superior technology and strict discipline overwhelmed one
world after another with little or no resistance.

It was during these initial attacks that Phelan Kell, son of Kell Hounds founder
Morgan Kell, was captured by Clan Wolf. Hunting pirates on the barren world
known as The Rock, the Kell Hounds ran headlong into the elite warriors of what
we would later learn to be Clan Wolf’s Golden Keshik. Analogous to an Inner Sphere
command company, those warriors easily destroyed the veteran Kell Hound battalion,
despite having already seen heavy combat against the pirate forces.

Having conquered the Periphery with no real challenge the Clans were
able to strike in force in March 3050.

The game should be released whenever the game is done and ready, not before or after.

Actually if you look it says the game will start in 3049. The 2012 is the example. So if the gamee doesnt go live ie...gold until 2013 then logic works that then 2013 will equal 3049.Which would be awesome to get people into the IS feel beforenthe Clans arrive. We all need hope:)

Sure but they have changed the starting time of the game at least once already... it was to be set in 3015. Then changed to 3049. If the clan invasion starts in august they could be in trouhle since that would mean needing to finish at least another dozen IS mechs and at least a dozen clan mechs by then. Plus all to other things that need doing. You seemed tonhave misssed the part where i said hope vs fact. Because in reality it is hope for all of us on almost everything since we have so few actual facts

"10 years of peace" doesn't mean "no fighting at all", it just means "no full fledged war between whole nations". There are always the occasional raids on border worlds, local nobles trying to increase their base of power and so on ...

My 2 cent on this clearly speculative topic:

Project inception talks about 'Early access.'

This impies that the game will being fully just after July 17th. I mean Early access is usually only a few days ... maybe a week.

i'm thinking Friday 20th July for the full release.

Yes, 3015 was the year of the game concept they had years ago. That was scrapped for a whole new product, Mechwarrior: Online.

Also rather sure after all the Blogs, Interviews, and the growing number of IS News announcements -- this is June 4th, 3049
http://mwomercs.com/...nnerspherenews/
Over 175 "ISN News Flash" announcement topics from a developer account, all of them listing the in-game date first and foremost in the body.

No we do not have nearly all the facts we would all like, but there have been many Dev posts giving a fair amount of info (especially in the Developer's Corner). Glean from them what you will but they have stated they are trying to stick to canon time-line. With their E3 presentation(s), closed beta, and open beta not far away, this all points to a product near launch and soon to be let loose for us to dissect and enjoy.
