Is this 25-year-old property really a remake of a book which is 17 years old? No. If you have problems this bad with the way time works, maybe you should spend a bit of time thinking about it.

Sigh
Did you read the question? it's how it was explained to him. It was a comparison of "this is how this works", not a "Which came first"

By comparison, Game of Thrones was based largely on the War of the Roses, which I'm sure served as inspiration for more than a few storylines in the BattleTech universe too.
So while one is sci-fi and the other is fantasy, they're largely inspired by historical events - so while the characters and setting are different, they both do have that same "feel" at a background level.
Oh yeah, as a side note, you'd need an ENTIRELY different drinking game - a serious lack of rampant nudity and severed heads in BattleTech.
Which is why GoT is a huge hit and Battle Tech does not have it's own series.

I think Robot Jox pretty much put the nail in the coffin for any live action feature/series of Giant Stompy Robots
We're stuck with anime.

History up to 3025 for the inner sphere. For those who don't know, this is the sort of thing we're expecting in CW.
The events leading up to the clan invasion from the other side of the spectrum.
And a fan vid... from which the Atlas looks like a lot of fun.

Well, we'll see how Pacific Rim does. We've already seen interest in the mecha featured in Avatar and Matrix Revolution when those were out, but unfortunately the juvenile way they were handled in Transformers did damage to that.
The real tragedy is that Robot Jox was a victim of conflict between the story writer (Joe Haldeman of 'The Forever War'), who wanted a realistic war movie, and the director (Stuart Gordon) who wanted a kid's movie. What resulted was a mis-match of the two, though it still has some great shots of mech combat. The scenes were shot in actual outdoor locations to have true lighting and 'feel' to it. Even the novel of the movie I read would have been better because it at least gave a good reason for the way the hero returns to the arena (because both sides are ready to go to war for real if he doesn't). One of those movies that could have been something very good, if the director had listened to the storywriter.

Yeah, but I don't have high hopes. It looks like a modern version of Ultraman to me.
As far as stories getting borked, I think WWZ is going to fall into that... fast zombies. Romero would be spinning in his grave, if he was dead.
