I like the Cataphract. It's a solid all-round mech with weapon loads that fit my play style. The only problem is that at some point, I just started dying in it, over and over. When I first started skilling the Cataphract up, it lasted a fairly long time under fire, as you'd expect from a heavy, but now I seem to die in this mech much more easily than in nearly anything else, to a degree that I'm sure it's not a coincidence. It's obviously hard to tell what you're getting hit by, but just now I took a volley of two large lasers & some SRM's, and all my front armour suddenly vanished. The game before that, I was facing down an Atlas with yellow armour, then instantly died.

And to get some usual suspects out the way:

--Maximum armour.
--No obvious signs of lagging / low FPS that might result in my taking lots of shots and only seeing a few of them.
--No ammo in the torso, or anywhere that lost armour.
--No snipers that might have shot me from extreme range.
--Not facing a massive-alpha boating build, at least in the cases I mentioned.

I'm just curious if anyone else has run into this phenomena, and if it's a known bug. Because the Phract is pretty much unusable at the moment, dying easier than every other mech I've used.

Are you XL?

Shifted any back armor to front?

Rubbing shoulders with AC/20s?

Are you torso twisting (particularly against SRMs)?

1: No.

2: 70 front / 18 back on CT.

3: It's obviously hard to tell, but I didn't see any Jagers / Cats in the area, didn't hear the AC20 sound effect in any case, didn't see "Damaged by AC20" on the post mortem. DItto for any other notorious alpha build.

4: Yes.

Again, this is just the Cataphract. My other mechs don't seem to be taking damage noticeably faster than they used to. But at some point, the Phract seemed to become far more vulnerable.

The phract has a huge CT. With HSR finally in place for lazers, mechs that have huge CTs like the dragon and the phract are really easy to kill.

As for the phract, I was playing yesterday with sj mausgmr and DSRT800, members of CSJ, and both were running cataphract builds with 51 leg armor. They got instantly legged by a centurion with 2 srm4s 2ml and a uac5. The reason why I mention their names is because the guy that did it might like to comment if he reads this thread. It seems that the cataphract has a particular affinity for losing its legs and I'd like to know if anyone else has noticed this.

Perhaps the old

'phract bug is back

from when they

introduced them...

I think it's just because the Cataphract is a fairly easy mech to hit. Plus more laser/projectile alpha builds are floating around lately since missiles are borked.

It might be the Jagermech. Since that thing has came out, there has been a huge dual AC/20 & Dual Gauss revival (not seen since the Cat K2). There seems to be 2 to 4 per match. If you were hit by that, armor goes fast.

Again, I'm almost certain I wasn't getting hit by super-alpha builds (didn't see or hear the sounds / effects of mass fire). And again, it's only the Phract that seems to be dying so fast. I've used other mechs with big CT's, which even when lighter, don't seem to lose armour as fast.

I'll try keeping a log of these deaths.

I have been killing Phracts at a surprising rate. I even turned in a ticket on it after killing 37 Phracts in something like 19-25 matches. Heck I even killed two phracts that were teaming up on me a few times.

I like when my phract gets shot in the front and the rear armor disappears. It's basically the coolest.

Huh, I don't know. Maybe an internal ammo explosion....Honestly I don't know. Like you said, maybe just bugged somehow. I haven't used my Catas in a while, so I hadn't noticed.

Since I almost exclusively pilot Phracts, I think I can comment intelligently about them.... (We'll no more so than en ***** savant)

I've actually found the Phract to be pretty damn resilient... Especially if your boost front armor and run standard engines. I think only the Centurion is more capable of running "zombie"...

That said, you run XL, don't reallocate armor and run straight lines (headshot'palooza)... Your destine to ride the bench sooner than later...

Been grinding my Phracts ... just unlocked elite. Haven't really *felt* extra squishy.

I do notice the difference between folks that can aim and not, but don't feel like it's broken. Could be wrong.

Edit: Not running XL engine either
