It's not really doing much at this point. Other than being an annoyance for those who die.

No, I'm not charging 3 assaults standing shoulder to shoulder that you barely scratched.
No, I don't give a crap if its wasting your time, don't suck and you would won't leave lights in a 1 on 4
Yeah, I'm trying to string them out, I can't do that if I stand there and die.
Oh and before you call me out for not fighting...have more kills than me.

Yes, because there weren't rampant exploits and CBill farming going on before they started locking mechs.
So instead of having your mech locked because some statwhore wants to power down in the corner, you get to watch 5 discons on each side.
Good times.

Which is why you get multiple mechs. You said yourself you have at least 2 DDCs. I know I bring a rotation of mechs to play because I know some matches I may die first and the team may take a while.
It's just as selfish of you if not more so to ask someone to just give up just so you can play again.
Like I said it's one thing if they are powered down and/or are not actively trying to win (no matter the odds). It's another if you are just too impatient to leave.

I own two because I was going for gold in the tryhard grind tournament, right next to legends like Broceratops, who ended up winning. I don't own two so useless lights can lock me out of my mechs.
If I see a useless light, I'll start legging them from now on, like during closed beta. It's clear even the community cannot be reasoned with, and you must take matters into your own hands if you want anyone to understand why certain things are really bad ideas around here.

The locked mechs are preventing suicide exploits with the current system.
Farming C-bills can be done in any mech. If you really need to farm XP on a specific mech this game allows players to buy more than 1 of each mech variant. The cost to be able to grind XP faster this way comes in the form of a C-bill cost to purchase a second mech of the same variant.

Sir;
It's your game at that point; advice from the audience is encouraged but your decisions count. My Raven was facing a lone Atlas at the end of an Assault match. I had small lasers, he was in pretty good shape. I declined combat, ran out the clock to a draw. My choice,, but we didn't lose and I felt there was a better than average chance I couldn't take on a decent Atlas in my condition. Flames ensued.
It's your call.
If they can't handle it, maybe they ought to stay alive....

If I Zerg rush in a light, people b*tch at me for not doing my "intended role" of being a dedicated scout-only unit that can never ever left click without committing high heresy.
If I make myself into a glorified targeting droid that doesn't ever attack, then quite frankly I'm useless to the team and would probably get b*tched at (I haven't ever done this to myself so I don't know how my team/the forums would react).
Conclusion: People in this game simply don't tolerate people driving mechs less than 45 tons. It has nothing to do with the tactics being used by said mech, just the fact that it's not as large as theirs. They'll regret it when this game finally transitions fully into assaultwarrior online. Mechwarrior 4: Online, anyone?

The point is: you being dead or alive, there's still someone playing the game and they have every right to play how they want to in order for it to be enjoyable for them. To blame them for locking up your mech because they are trying to play and getting emotional over about it is the most selfish thing. They're playing the game to play the game, they're not playing the game to give-up or stop playing.

If you'd like, just shows how immature you are and I'm sure sooner or later you'll be reported for griefing.

I guess the one thing that it does is encourage people to actually play the game instead of suiciding to farm XP or something, but that doesn't sound like it'd be as effective as just playing to win, so I'd prefer that it bit the dust as well.

The thing is, you're not gonna win in your raven against 6 other guys, and making the 7 other players on your team mad that they have to wait another 8 minutes for you to die is spiteful.
HA!
That's where you are wrong buddy.
Been in a couple of matches where I have won 1v3,1v4, or even once where it was 1v5. **** like that does happen if you play your strength and exploit your opponents weaknesses.

1. Watch the rest of the match...usually only if my teammates are in interesting fights. If not then one of the following.
2. Quit match and take another mech into a match.
3. Do something else while I wait..have a smoke, go to the bathroom, see what people are ranting about on the forums.

No, not really. They go power down in a corner, or make you chase them all over.
I've only rarely seen anyone win doing this, and I've been here since the game first opened. It's purely a spitting move.
Actually, I have two DDCs set up in my queue, and my founder atlas. Still doesn't make it okay that people lock them in 15 minute games for no reason.

poor boy. i wanna play the game in a more realistic fashion, so i try to safe my mech as long and often as i can. if i see my team getting steamrolled, because they mindlessly charge into the enemy, i make a u turn and let them rot!
it has nothing to do with being a coward, but to preserve my mech for fights that matter.
and if people call out my position... pah! if they would have played better, there would be no need for hide and seek.
oh boy, i can be a troll at times.

it really depends. if there is no light on the other team i might give it a try.
but really, if you want to watch other peoples matches, just quit the match, select another mech and launch a new game. no need to tell people how to play.

But there have been quite some times when i wished i could punch light players in the face over the internet.
( which i probably wouldn't do anyway, i'm not that much of a violent person )
I remember this one situation; Assault gamemode, Caustic, game came down to a monster assault brawl right infront of our base (the one with all those buildings on it.) We totally crushed the enemy team.
Result: 2 Stalker and 3 Atlas, barely damaged vs 1 badly damaged commando.
His team was begging for him to die fighting, but he was saying something along the lines of "You should never waste your mech, the battle ends but the war continues" (sounds like some RP bullsh*t to me).
He forced us to let 2 assaults protect the base while 3 crawled the whole way all over caustic to cap their base.
God his team was raging.
