Type DOTA 2 > LOL every game and you'll get some conversation going.

I don't respond too often to the glhf comments. I tend to have rotten luck and enjoy winning. Also, if people are too nice, I feel bad about killing them. However, I do enjoy in game banter and will chat. Especially with people whose Elo bracket I happen to be stuck in. Worst thing I know is people on my own team who feel the urge to be abusive.

I've been playing since the old closed beta days, and I'm still amazed at how quiet people are. I regularly type out a friendly "Good Hunting" or "Good Luck, Have Fun" to everyone, and seldom get a reply from the opposition or even my own team.

If it wasn't for socialization with my guild, I'd have dropped this game long ago. The community is just absurdly anti-social.

The last number of games I've said a few things.
They include
  • For every man there is a cause for which he will gladly die for. Since you're dying today, I shall ask you this: What is your cause?
  • Davion forces. You are in direct violation of the Capellan Confederation's mandatory evacuation order given to the people. Leave the area or you will be fired upon. There will be no further warnings.
  • This is Koniving to the unknown force advancing on the wreckage! The Capellan Confederation has claimed this crashed vessel and its contents to include all salvage and personnel, living and dead. This salvage operation is being conducted in our territory and is our right. You will leave this area at once.
  • o/
  • Today I've been thinking of something to say. I'm still thinking.
  • Pew.
  • A reading from the book of big stompy robots. Chapter seven, verse 21: "Pew pew, pew, pew pew pew, dakka dakka, boom." Thank you.
  • Today I have machine guns and flamers. Weep if I get more kills than you.
  • I'm silver. May God help you.
  • Today I has teefs. Time to bite.
  • I'm in a trial (default) build for fun, don't expect a lot out of me. (Later that match.) I just got third place out of both teams with a trial Raven 4x. That's... kinda sad.
  • Machine guns are overpowered, so I brought plenty of 'em.
  • I'm blue, do bi die uh... dakka... Yeah, I don't know what that guy says after that. Just sing it to yourself as I run by you.
  • I'm pink, I have flamers, machine guns, and SRMs on a Trebuchet 7k. Can you get me?
  • Oh no! I'm a pug standing in the open at [gridsquare], someone shoot me with LRMs! ....Anyone? Oh c'mon, no one has LRMs? Good. I do. MWAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAA!!! (Come out with like 2 damage and 8 kill assists.)

Sorry, I'm too busy planning the destruction of the enemy team to reply. Some of us do care about winning the highest number of matches possible. During that loading screen I'm looking at what is available on my team and talking with my group on TS to quickly develop a strat based on the mechs that dropped with the team.

It's very rare that I ever reply to chat, I just don't pay attention to it unless it's blue text. Even then if it's not important to tactics I don't generally reply. I'm not trying to be mean, it's just that I don't give a **** about talking during a match. It has no tactical value to me.

Why is that your goal? Do you get special cookies if you are the top of some chart somewhere?

oh you mean pug droppers are primarily just playing primarily for the game and to have fun, not to necessarily socialize and that if someone wanted socialization annnnd to play this game they would join a clan or group? nooooooo.

yes that was dripping with sarcasm, but seriously a game lasts what 10-12 min usually but you usually only have 3ish min of time tops you could actually chat without avoiding combat or hurting your team. typically with these conditions + the fact the chances of you dropping against the same people enough times enough times to actually remember their names so low what do you expect.

anyway if you want a response in chat type a question, most people in chat are willing to help or answer questions, niceties typically don't get a response as they don't require one.

The chat feature in the game is just horrid. I think I type/chat more than some, but honestly.....chat sucks badly in this game, so it's no surprise that people are fairly quiet. You have to hit esc twice to exit chat and "team only" chat channel is not the default?? WTF?

Winning is fun for me, that's why it's my goal. No other reason other than the fact that I hate losing.

If you'd like a start-of-match response from me you'd need something more interesting than "GL HF".

I'm too busy shooting my teammates in the back as I test my weapons to be bothered with pleasantries.

This weekend I began attempting to come up with "One sentence strats". So my last 30 or so games were the most that I chatted anything. I don't like typing useless things into the chat, though i will throw a "Good Hunting" out there at the beginning of the match. I have found that the "One sentence strats" work wonders. I was on teams getting rolled less often and since it is only a single sentence, it's easy to follow and most team mates do so. The fights were indeed "GG's" most of the time and all it took was reminding my team mates to "form a firing line and cover each other." Additionally, once a line was in place, it became easier to adjust tactics via "One sentence strats". For example, if we managed to get a light into the enemy rear (giggity) a simple command of "Push" (giggity) would take advantage of the lighter front line that the enemy now had due to sending some force back to the base. I felt like a "know it all" always being the one to recommend a strat, but the game was much more enjoyable when PUG's had some semblance of a plan to work with.

thats because, this game is mostly played by grumpy old nerds that have a real life where they are forced to socialse with their wifes and Kids and the hve to talk to poeple at work so that they have no Need for socialising in their rare free time ! hell i want to blow up mechs and dont spend time with chatting arround unless its something like GO CAP THETA ! :(

This isn't DBZ... expecting others to chat is silly.

I, however, never shut up.

I tend not to reply to it just because its a pointless nicety. If you actually type something with some substance people are more likely to reply.

The most enervating discourtesy is writing nonsensical "gl hf gg" during, after, or before the match. People should actually bother and transcribe their ideas following all grammar rules.
