If you are on an extreme gradient, it generally means that you're in pretty close range... which is really not where you want to be with a PPC sniping highlander.

So the fact that you can't fire all of your PPC's and overheat yourself isn't really a huge disadvantage.

Well I can just think of lots of places in Alpine where that limited vertical firing angle can get annoying fast. And we're getting a canyons map soon which would suggest a lot of hills and valleys that would lead to the same problems.

RAWRRRR CHECK OUT MY HIGHLANDER OF DOOOM
HGN-732

OMG you cant do that!!!! You adapted!!! NOOOOOOOOOO

seriously, this guy makes a very valid point-his build does more damage than my heavy metal and actually has close range defense

I agree. It is ULTRA LAME that the only highlander able to mount any direct fire guns in its left arm is the hero one. all the other variants are almost identical.

EPIC fail imho.

PGI is moving more and more to a money only model, and given the insane price of mechs they are asking I find this highly unacceptable.

Nevermind that we STILL cannot paint our hero mechs, and some of us that WOULD buy the pink hero wont because of the attrocious colour.

nevermind that LRMS are crap right now so the highlander is basically stuck with srm/ssrm in that entire side torso.

Personally I thought the hero was underpowered. The standard ones look like better poptarts to me.

heavy metal -> shot his left torso down and you will strip the mech of most of his weapons

the others will have some weapons left should something like that happen
and if you so badly want lasers in arm take HGN-733P... but oh i forgot you will complain coz it only has energy in arm

i find these loadouts to be fair all of them (at the very least they are not one of the same kind like stalker) though they are similiar

733C seems to be the AC20 capable one also has max 4 jumps
733P has energy in the arm... good vs fastleggers
733 is your new missile boat
732 is clearly the ERPPC/gauss sniper

will see how it plays out

P.S: funny how you jump to conclusions and doom the mech BEFORE you ever see it match... i believe servers werent up at the time of your post
vs heavy metal... its a decent build like other highlanders but i would argue about best one (i will when i get to play it ;))

The main strength I see in the Heavy Metal is the arm-mounted energy hardpoints that will work wonders on any mech that have a clear speed advantage against you, And since you're an assault a lot of mechs will have your number in speed. The 733P does have 2 energy in the arm, but also 0 ballistic which is a big letdown.

The only one feeling the doom is the driver of this overheating monster! It is amusing to watch all the forum tears shed over mech variants which have been in play all of 15 minutes. How about you guys try these mechs out before slamming them as useless? The Heavy Metal does not have such overpowering hardpoints over the rest of the Highlanders and certainly not the other choices in the assault class to make it overpowering or "Pay2Win" which is what some posters are claiming without resorting to saying it.

Yeah right, misunderstand. Well sorry for running over your cat or whatever, because you must have some reason to enjoy reading about others' insinuating how I can't afford buying the Heavy Metal.

^Told you that you miss-understood.

If anything, I was making fun of Mersh. But it wasn't anything personal to begin with. I just find the idea of anyone actually giving there account info on a forum for the public to see to be hilarious. Especially when its just so bluntly requested.

I'm just easily amused.

Some of the hero mechs are slightly better than the c-bill versions, some are slightly worse. They design them to be as accurate to the lore as they realistically can be not to make them obviously superior in order to sell MC.

Well whatever, I'll be interested to hear from experienced Heavy Metal pilots when they've tried the CBill Highlanders what they think. Right now I don't feel tempted to buy any of them anyway.

I'm no BT purist, but I think this thread begs the question:
Are not the variant hardpoints already dictated by canon that PGI is following? Doesn't sarna and lore already tell us where the hardpoints are supposed to be, especially in regards to lore Hero Mechs like the HM?

And if PGI did not follow this canon, would not all the BT fans be up in arms?

Or what if they made up their own variants? Then we'd hear about "there are so many variants available, why waste time re-inventing wheels?".

While I see the disadvantages but forth fromm the thread of the CBill mechs, what could PGI possibly have done differently? Because it looks like unintended consequences to me, not nefarious P2W planning.

That describes how I feel about this thread. We go a troll trying to rage its Pay to win when PGI has gone out of there way to make sure its not that. They end up crossing that line at some point, but as of now there is nothing to see here.

Also I do agree the MC variants are a bit pricey. I would buy more if they where cheaper but as of now I will buy some cbill highlanders with a ac20 (mc version gets no ac20, can i clame that makes it weaker, all subjective ) and whoop someone.

TT tells you what weapons a mech had in what location. there is no hard points set for TT. So they use the weapons config and figure out what hard points seam fair for that version.

I was hoping for a dual AC/20 or gauss brawler.....I think thats 2 much...right?

Undecided yet on which variants ill get, I like SRM's on my brawlers, I like ballistics, and I like energy wpns....I think ill buy them all, rofl!!

The only real downside is ballistics just in one arm.
