Tis the ground pounder who make it so easy for the poptarts since they tend to stay in one place, even when using cover. There is little difference between a jumper and a ground pounder, with the ground pounder using the edge of some cover, either the sides or the top except they are generally slower getting back into cover.

The more successful jumpers are those who take a few shots then move along while others will stay in one spot, making it easy for anyone to tag them, from ground pounders to other jumpers. What I have noticed, when observing, is most pilots with jumpjets do not even use them during combat but primarily to get over a little hump, that is from lights to the highlander. A tad crazy, hai? Overall it is about change, those less successful with either try to do something different or continue to be the punching bag for others.

Edited. The flavor of the month will change again once LRM have been reworked and there will those who adapt to survive and those who will buff others pocket book.

The highlander ruined it. Sure we had the ppc gauss snipers already, but now it's everyone. I don't have a problem aiming so I can join that game, but it's just damn boring and really bad gameplay. Assault mechs jumping up and taking a ppc shot and then hiding again. I feel ashamed to call myself assault mech player. And you can't run up to them because you are going to get shot up instantly. This gameplay has ruined highlander for me, and with it the whole game.

All that's needed to fix this problem is for PGI to add in 3rd person, so you can see the poptarts coming. Don't worry I'm sure the wizards there are working hard to implementing it soon!

NO 3rd person, please! The comrpessed 360° view, yes, but not 3rd person.

I've never played that one, but I did see a clip of a mech being destroyed just for having one leg blown off.

I don't think this is the same, unless I am missing something.

MechWarrior 2 - Gauss and PPCs were good to have as well.

Ammo explosion in the leg will take you out

Well, yeah. You can't currently place CASE in the legs.

At one point your ammo in the legs would cook off from being in the volcano in Caustic valley. =P

Just don't put ammo in the legs, you're better off with it in the head. =P

Ammo explosions in the legs spread to that side's torso before they hit CT. So yes, you can CASE the explosion, but you'd still be down to 1 arm, 1 leg, 1 side torso, CT, and cockpit.

Just not in the leg, which is rather vital and not something you'd want to lose anyway. =P

Once it's gone, you might as well not have CASE anyway. =P

Just my opinion. =O

I have not noticed any more pop-tart sniping today than yesterday. It is just more Highlanders doing it today and fewer Cataphracts, Stalkers, Jagermechs, Catapults, blablablah. Really, I don't think the game-meta changed at all today, except that if you were in a PUG today, you probably had 2 or 3 non-elited Highlanders on your team; and you likely faced at least a few 4-man + 4-man crews without new, unskilled mechs. That will pass soon.

TL;DR: Shed more tears, beginner

"Highlander Online" as a title for this topic would be more in line with all the topics we had after a new 'Mech was introduced.

Would not a Pepsi Stalker be a natural counter to these poptarts? Sure, they are quick and easy to make- but I hear they have a juicy center, and only have half the armament. If you hit them once per jump, you even have time to cool down between 40-60 point alphas.

Game Balance... Battletech..... You depart from the established balance in response to whining at the peril of the meta-game....and one of the major historical problems in this genre...ie MW4....is Dev team OVERREACTION to coding mistakes. The institution of hardpoints in MW4 was a severe overreaction to the "boating" in MW3...

Now we have a beta....with LOTS of bugs....and their cash flow is derived by "selling" mechs...rather than selling time. Thus you also have the focus upon the "hero" classes and other mickey mouse manure.

Right now we are stuck with a series of overreactions to past bad patches relative to game balance. The current sniper camping/pop tarting is merely a result of the past elimination of all missiles as viable weapons alternatives....particularly LRM's.

In battletech...LRM's are basically the long range artillery of the game....they are an INDIRECT fire weapon that does incredibile damage to camping stationary pop tarts. The key to LRM's is unit play where you have a light spotter mech...with a valid NARC that spots the camper pop tart....hits that camper with the NARC....and the LRM....in indirect fire does huge damage to said camper...

In battletech...the primary huge damage role of the light is this cooperative LRM/Narc spotting dance. Thus you have unit teamwork...and lots of fun.

PGI would do well to return to these basic staples of all battletech based games....this was a key balancer in MW3 and MW4 and the Chromehounds adaptation of MW5.

Move and countermove....tactical chess...rather than the brainless poptarting sniper camping we have now.

To effect this is simple....significantly Buff the LRM's and SRM's....and make NARC last through 5 to 6 salvoes..

Then..you will see a more balanced teamwork based game

Its always something else..isnt it?

LETS NERF THE GAME!

-Only 1 mech
-Only 3 weapons

that shall do it to make things fair.

Don't be ashamed Panda. You are an Assault Mech pilot. The rest are Assault Pop tarts.

Come on, stop whining about every game change, this is beta, you could get used to the fact, that every patch can(and in 50% will) change game style, weapon balance and most used mech builds. ADAPT!
P.S What I really want to see is rivers of tears when Clantech introduced(or maybe I should wait for **** storm to come? ;) )

Maybe PPC should work like a taser rather than a one shot pop ;)

Also, Streak SRMs are still the lamest weapon in the game.

Of course, or why not the Pepsi Cat? Low profile makes it great to guard known poptart hideouts. Maybe K2 with ERPPC in arms for long range counterpoptarting and some LLs for close encounters with enemy scouts? If people could spend more time discussing countertactics instead of complaining General Discussion would be worth visiting more often.

Welcome to MW4 lite.

PPCs and Gauss still Rule.
Coolant Flush
Jump sniping
3rd person (coming soon)
Missiles are still a complete waste (practically no damage, slow speed..)

Only now: ECM makes it so you (edited)can not aim or even fire some missiles!

Game isn't even out of "Beta" yet.. and I'm already seeing what MW4/Mektek Mp3 was in it's dying breath..

Blah..blah..blah... I refuse to adapt to the changed battlefield landscape and modify my present repertoire of tactics.

Is this really going to happen with every flipping Mech addition and or nerf/buff?

Probably because your elo is in the toilet bowel and you're fighting people in trail mechs that just installed the game.
