I love my 3 Centurions, as well as my Founder's 4G. Centurions, for some reason, can take A LOT of abuse before going down, and are still effective, until they lose their center torso.

started off with atlas then worked my way down to jenners/commandos... back to running heavies with cataphracts... it just keeps the game interesting...

When exact weight class matching is returned to matchmaker later this week, taking a group of 4 mediums can help to limit the assault & heavy jump sniper population by matching your group of 4 mediums against 4 mediums on the enemy team which may also be another 4-man medium group.

If enough players choose medium mechs we may even see some games free of jump snipers.

I can't wait for that. It's not much fun being the only medium on a team with 7 heavy/assault, playing against a team of 7 or 8 heavy/assault. Speaking of which, we might also need an 'Adopt a Light' program if that keeps up. ;) And that was more than a few matches last night.

The best thing you can do is get 3 friends running mediums with you in a group of 4.

Some of my most fun matches were playing 1 of my centurions along with 3 other mediums played by corp members. Mediums can be quite deadly in a fast moving pack of 4.

No its not...

And Hunchback/ Centurion/ Cicada aren't mediums, either. Unless you count their tonnage, they are 2 trash, but cheap heavies and the Cicada is a Locust after a lenghty visit of McDonalds.

Me too. Centurion-AL, Yen-Lo, Hunchback-4G, Hunchback-4P all the time.

Two of my hunchies get regular exercise and a good diet, the 4P and 4G (actually usable after ballistics HSR). The 4SP bores me though. Not weird enough for my taste.

Contemplating getting some trebs aswell, just because I still haven't played anything with jumpjets after 8 months in the game :-)

I wonder what their plan is for 8mans?

Wouldn't mind seeing similar restrictions in 8mans because 8mans are the places where weight limits and restrictions are much more manageable due to the amount of teamwork between all the players on each side.

I have at least one of every medium and in the case of the Cents and Trebs, three each.

That said, mediums will continue to suffer from low populations until tonnage is a factor in the MM. Not weight class; tonnage!

Also, I want a 55 ton mech please!

8-man matches might be a good place to test a tonnage match system or a min/max tonnage limit system. I've seen other players ask for some sort of limits and after seeing how bad the jump sniper issue is getting in solo/small-group drops it might convince more players to run 8-man groups with some limits in place.

I've got three shiny Cicadas in my garage right now, ready to go. It's a fun chassis for me. I've got a Hunch and Cent in there too, so I've got Mediums are pretty well represented all around.

The only chance for Meds to survive on the battlefield is their speed. CN9 should never be slower than 92kph, with its best at 98kph. HBK has to be 92kph.

As a Medium Pilot, I cannot agree with this statement strongly enough.
Mediums need to use their speed in order to be effective. It's all about quick movement, and sticking close to the heavier Mechs on your team. Hit and Run tactics are a must.

I've been running Hunchbacks exclusively since I began MW:O (finally reached Elite Level with my third HBK just a few days ago actually) and I never run a HBK without a STD-260 Engine in it. It's a lot of tonnage to devote to just the engine, but I swear by the extra few km/h that it gets you.

Mediums have been a blast to play!

I agree wholeheartedly that Mediums need speed to be effective, but I've been able to use the 250 STD Engine to great effect in my Centurions. (Well, my CN9-D has a 300 STD).

Back on topic... Hardly a day goes by that I don't play my Centurions. I started Mechwarrior Online as a Light pilot, but one day I chanced to see the CN9-AL on trial rotation... It was love at first sight. We've been together since way back in Closed Beta. (CN9-AH I will never forget you...)

As the above poster states, a medium cannot stand alone on the battlefield. However, I've found enemies tend to ignore me and go for the nearby assault or heavy 'mech. Too bad they don't realize I have an alpha of 40+ and pretty good DPS. ;)

I don't run any other mediums, since they each require a different style and mindset than my Centurions do; I can't zombie with either the Hunchback or the Trebuchet... And the Cicada is an honorary Britanni-I mean Light.

Was originally thinking of waiting for the Blackjack, but may not want to wait the two(?) months until it comes out. Any recommendations? I currently have three Ravens and three Catapults, so I'm looking for a different flavor.

I'm drawn to the Hunch and the Centurion, because they were two mechs I'd play in the old TT days. I like to stay semi-stockish with my layouts though - so keep in mind that if you say "Hunchback!" I plan to be running around with an AC/20 on it!

And I'm not opposed to buying the Wang if the Centurions seem to be the stronger of the two chassis.

I am Elite on both Chassis since long time. I have over 380K experience on the CN9-A and HBK-4sp (I do not revert XP to GXP for lack of funds).

With that said i feel i can give you an insight, however your final decision really depend on your style and what works best for you.

Although you want to stay "stockish" you want to consider that in this game the massive Hunch on the right torso is a big liability for the standard Hunchie.
You meet anyone on the battlefield able to aim and understanding a bit of this game and your hunch will be gone by focus fire in less than 30 seconds and with that 80% of your beloved firepower.

The HBK-4sp is my favorite due to durability and hardpoint balance. you can take away an half of my mech and I can still fire at you with 50% of my fire power. Not many Mechs, of any class can say the same.

With any Centurion you have a similar issue due to the fact your main ballistic (or energy) will be on your right arm, very exposed. It is almost the same issue with the HBK hunch, good players will focus fire on your arm first and will take away the 60% of your fire power in few seconds.
At least you still have rockets on the left torso and ML on the CT, therefore you are in a better shape than any HBK with a hunch.

CN9-A called Zombie is a recent config very diffused and extremely effective in Pugs and/or Competitive drops. 3 SRMs (usually 6) and 2 ML and 98kph are the key of its success.

remember, whatever direction you will go with the Medium of your choice:
  • SPEED: cannot be slower than 92kph if you want to survive long enough to tell your story (some ppl says 81kph, ok.. I can give you that as a very limit)
  • FLANKING: today with strong ALPHAs around you do not have the luxury to be a face-browler. That s why you need to be fast and sneaky, flanking your target and attacking only targets already engaged and distracted by someone bigger than you. Choose your fight carefully or you 'll be dead before able to say "Mayday!!"
  • STICK WITH YOUR ASSAULTS: be their shadow, be a "parassite", count on them to deliver your damage. If your Assault mate sucks, you are dead by direct result. Once your Assaults decale his target use your speed to bite the target *** with your weapons, then rejoin behind your Assault lines.
Think about youerself as a rubber band, hit and rejoin and that s why you NEED to be fast, you fail to be Fast, your DEAD.

So here you are ready for your choice. remember you will have probably work your Meds first to achieve the extremely important SPEED TWEEK, but you will need it :)

I've always had fun in the hunchback, And I enjoy a cicada run every now and then...

But most days, the cockpit of my YLW is just used as the beer cooler for my mechanic crew.
