I don't know bud, it's the same things being said over and over.

I mean just look at Matthew Craig's recent posts. I appreciate the effort, but he basically says "We have no idea why half this stuff is happening", yet they are still seemingly putting more time towards monetizing things than stabilizing the game.

Who is crying? I'm just setting the facts straight. Thankfully I wasn't gullible enough to join the Founder's program.

what was gullible about it? depending on the version you got, you got a shipload of discounted MC, 1 or 4 mechs with a permanent XP/Cbill bonus, a fancy tag, possibly early access to the close beta (i was already in the beta) and your name in the credits that no one will read.

what is gullible about any of that? sounds like you're just bitter that you didnt get it.

Yes MWO is a Beta at the moment. The way I look at it is that I have waited since 2003 (excluding Mech Assault 1 & 2) to get back into a Mech, so I don't mind putting up with the raft of issues that we have to go through before the finished product. At the end of the day by accepting the terms and conditions we are signing up as Beta Testers and I sort of like the ring of that.

PGI are doing a fantastic job; with each new or revised feature, improvement in terrain detail, new weapon sound etc. we get closer to what we want. The beauty of it is that we also get a voice to suggest these new features.

Maybe I wont ever get my Omega; but I can live with that because I am getting a sort of MW5 and that's all I ask.

No offense, but right now PGI doesn't care so much about retaining/attracting players.

As has been said, they should care because, even though they "might not care about retaining/attracting new players", those new players are showing up anyway. (Well, some are).

And those players don't give a flying frak what "development stage" the company and/or the rabid fanboys/defense force say the game is at.

They log in and play. Or try to. And they make their decision to stay, go away forever or leave for a bit and comeback later from their first impressions of the game.

If those impressions are a catastrophic failure, well, that's not good.

They then take those impressions and share them with their friends, who share them with their friends etc . . .

So, in my opinion, PGI should care very much about retaining/attracting new players.

Otherwise, [Insert Doom here}

It doesn't make sense that a game with such a dedicated player base could fail. It's just hard for me to believe that a company would intentionally screw up so badly when the fixes are so easy to make--no matter what reason you can think of.

Just and observation:

The part about the dedicated player base is ironic...why? Because I played and watched as another game with a fanatical player base "Star Wars- Old Republic/SWTOR" failed in a most spectacular fashion. I wanted so badly for that game to succeed, EA/Bioware failed at virtually everything they chose for that game. Here also, I really, truly want this game to be a success and be fun to play. There is still time, but I see A LOT of similar mistakes here in MWO to the ones made in SWTOR.

I actually have to agree with this.

Paid content is being prioritized and long standing bugs aren't being fixed. However this all depends on the balancing act of the company; venture capital, overhead, revenue streams, etc. etc. It takes moeny to fix those bugs and if their investors don't have deep pockets (or a willingness to dig deep) then they have to generate revenue in order to pay people to fix those bugs.

It's a Catch 22 situation

Don't make premium content a priority = no money
No money = no salary for bug fixing employees
No bug fixing employees = losing customers due to unhappy bugs
Losing customers = reduced purchases in premium content

Round and round and round she goes....

They are doing the best that they can with the team that they can.

Rest assured these guys want to see this game succeed and it isn't just about making money for them; their reputations are on the line as much as their wallets and to some people that is more important.

Yeah except they BLEW most of the founders money ovehyping/advertising a woefully inadequate product. The catch-22 they're in now seems to be a product of poor managment and naively optimistic planning. IGP forced the open beta bc the bottom line needed attention. And here we are.... a profit model "beta" where kitchy $15-$35 hero mechs are more important than basic playability .. they're calling a "soft-launch". Maybe cement faceplant is more descriptive.

ui 2.0
dx11
cw
lobby
netcode
collisions
bugfixes
dev tools
finish hsr
at least 9+ mechs (6 "supposedly unannounced +blackjack/flea/orion)
That will pretty much change everything from what we have now, and it's supposed to be a released product in peoples eyes?

Annnd in the meantime they have
wages
server hire
hardware costs (niko is constantly reminding us new tools are in development so they can track problem better and easier, not all of that is going to be just code)
etc
etc
etc

If one is to believe the figures thrown around on what it costs to get mechs/maps into play, + the above the founders $$$ was gone a long time ago (reports of what happened to it notwithstanding) If they aren't making cash then we aren't getting anything, period.

"Firstly, it's important to reiterate that the standard retail ALPHA/BETA definitions do not necessarily apply to online Free to Play (F2P) games. MechWarrior Online will always be in development, which means exciting new features and content will roll out frequently." ~ Developer Update - August 7th (2012)

The "It's Beta" line has been fuzzy since.......

I think we all wish this game was fully released. Before September 21st they will fix mostly everything.

After 1,5 years of beta that's not something to be very proud of, just something that should be.

But yeah, I hope that they manage to keep their timeline, as well...

This is why I made this thread. This is why this thread is unique from the other "it's a beta" threads out there. People don't seem to realize that PGI has their nose to the grindstone. They aren't out in force advertising and going to conventions to try to bring in new players. ATM they don't care unless they lose their beta tester pool.

I wish it wasn't this way also. I wish PGI was bigger so they could finish this sooner. I wish it was already done.

On the other hand I don't pretend to know what works best for their business decisions. I can bet you that they are counting on people coming back when community warfare phase 3 is out, or when the release comes on Sept 21st. I know tons of people that will come back then.

Do you guys remember closed beta? Do you remember getting your stuff reset every month or 2? Ya....
