The flea has apparently been delayed for 2(!) months while they release the Blackjack and Orion.

While I am disappointed that one of my most anticipated 'mechs has been delayed, I believe the devs must have good reason for doing as they did.

Here is a list of reasons why I think they may have delayed the Flea:

1. MASC implementation is taking longer than expected

2. They plan to remove the speed cap with the release of the Flea, and want all currently announced 'mechs to be released before that (although why that would be important is beyond me)

3. Light 'mech hate on the forums is prompting the devs to release other weight classes first

4. Ninjas!

5. A vast conspiracy involving the Illuminati, the Rand corporation, and the interdimensional lizard-people who live at the center of the earth.

6. There is to be NO reason number 6

7. Ninjas!

If anyone has anything to add to this list, or has special insight into this matter that they would like to share please feel free to do so, or if you just need a sympathetic ear for the sadness of having the Flea delayed.

Flea requires MASC implementation to the game and the long awaited lift of the speed cap.

Such things happen to influence a massive number of designs and as such are better delayed as much as possible to make sure it is done right. Besides, most people dislike the Locust and would rather fight with Kerensky's machine, instead.

Pretty sure it's because of the speed cap. Also, anything with streaks will be able to kill it in 4'ish salvos with the way streaks are currently implemented, so no one would have fun with it.

It would be the most useless mech ever in the current meta. There's no point releasing it.

Couldn't you just tell us what they said? It might have taken less time than telling that wonderful story.

because it would introduce MASC and with the speed limit in place all that does is free up some tonnage by putting smaller engines in for more weapons.

We cant go faster than a set limit, whats the point in putting something into the game designed to make the smaller mechs move faster than their set limit?

Anyone got a link to the confirmed current speedcap? I do believe I've over-engined my Jenner!

They delayed the Flea because they're probably having trouble implementing MASC. That half of the weapons such a low tonnage mech would rely on - In particular Machine guns, flamers, and small pulse - are frankly terrible.

In the current metagame Flea's will get torn to shreds by just about everything except the Commando. MASC has to give them the edge they need to survive.

You don't. Without the cap you can put bigger engines in or use masc. (example: X5 stock with XL320...would be able to use A LOT MORE then a 340 but is capped at 340 right now)

For Flea with MASC netcode needs to be rocksolid. This takes time.

PS: Fleas with MASC will probably be able to just outrun Streaks

Wouldn't dual Gauss or 3 PPCs be enough to blow a leg off a Flea?

I think 3 PPC would be enough to blow a CT off a Flea.

Good.

The sooner the Orion comes out, the sooner I can come back to this POS and be disappointed all over again.

It's because they hate me and they are prejudices against the chicken leg mechs of the world.

Fight the tyranny of knees, throw off the cloak of oppression weighing us down under the people leg hegemony!

also it's likely because of the speed cap thing.

The Cap is the engine rating allowed. No over engineering involved. Put as big an Engine as allowed, now you are at the Cap. :P

To anyone who thinks the Flea is a useless junk mech. If memory serves me correctly the Flea was capable of exceeding 200 Kph. While yes the bigger guns in the game are mostly all capable of a 1 shot kill on a 20 ton mech, good luck hitting a good pilot. This mech was not designed for anything other than scouting and harrasing. It will not be a striker mech like the Jenner, it will be an observer and a battlefield distraction.

If they intend to implement the MASC system properly and remove the speed limitations currently imposed, this mech will be incredibly viable to a small set of players will live for the frustration of their enemies.

High speed trolling anyone.
