I just finished my 1st 25 matches, lost 70% of them, used up my cadet bonuses and spent the 10 million and change down to the last 127 bills, lol!

I wanted to make a mech that could light people up at range, yet still be potent in a brawl if necessary.

I made a STK-3F.

3 ER PPC
2 Medium lasers
3 Streak SRM2's with plenty of ammo

19 double heat sinks, maxed out armor.

1.02 heat efficiency on alpha strikes, 49 firepower...I also own 2 large lasers that i was gonna use in place of streaks and med. lasers, but it ran really hot!

Using a Razer Naga mouse from my WoW days, #1 is my 3 ER PPC, #2 are my 2 lasers, #3 my missiles, and #4 is my Alpha Strike.

For trying to be a sniper who also has some versatility & survivability in close quarters too, until I can run a few hundred matches for more upgrades, does this build look solid?

Keep in mind I am officially BROKE at this point, lol!!

I simply could not fit another heat sink in this or my large laser version.

Thanks guys!

Only thing i'm against is the streaks, as a stalker your twist is limited to say the best and your unlikely to track light mechs if they run around you, may want to swap them for more mediums or go to pulse lasers but thats just my opinion, otherwise should work for you.

Thanks!

I just realized this thread doesn't belong in General, and reposted it under Battlemechs.

Sorry for my confusion, lack of sleep got to me at last!

This isn't a bad build if you have the GXP to unlock the 360 target retention module. Post above has a legit gripe. But other than that, pretty solid IMO.

100% agree.

However I think you will have a lot of fun with it.

Just remember to be near cover or get to cover

as quickly as you possibly can as LRMs and other

things can still kill you very quickly.

Also be sure to check out the hitboxes -->THREAD<--

to help your ability to aim.

Maybe lose the missles for more heat sinks instead of more weapons....being able to shoot a lot with fewer weapons sometimes does a lot more for your score than shooting a few times with tons of weapons...especially if you tend to miss a lot. Just work on your play style. Most of us lost a lot when we started...you will learn. Once you learn to use cover and pick your shots, you'll win a lot more. Seems like a fairly solid build.

Try go with the stock weapon load out. It is a good one. I'm using that for my 3F.

I have a stalker with 4 ER PPCs, STD 275 engine, and the rest double heat sinks. You can easily get 400+ damage per match and a couple kills. It is a great build and easy to use. I have two weapons groups with the arm ppcs in one and the torso ppcs in the other. It helps with picking shots and regulating heat.

For first mech build. That is the right direction and you seem to know what you want :P. You do have another option if running to hot or maxed. You do want the punch but somtimes just chain fire the ERPPC to save heat.

I am currently running 4 medium lasers, 4 LRM10s with artemis, and tag with endo steel and double heat sinks. Works pretty good for me. Maxed armor, 1.08 heat efficiency, 48 firepower, and maxed out standard engine. Chain fire the medium lasers and LRMs. Chain firing is awesome. I thought it sucked in the past but it really does help keep a constant rate of fire, constant rate of damage, and helps to manage your heat.

My previous design used 2 ER large lasers, 4 medium lasers, 2 SRM6s, and 2 SSRMs. Maxed out armor, maxed out engine, DHS, endo steel. I had good results with it. Firepower 57, heat efficiency was slightly over 1.0. I just did not use the ER large lasers up close unless it was an emergency and chain fired the medium lasers.

Both designs have the firepower to hit at all ranges. With the speed at 65 kph you can close with your enemies too and hit them with constant firepower.

Ditto...streaks require a lock. If you cannot get one, they are useless. Medium lasers are more versatile, and no chance of ammo explosion. If you do not have hardpoints for energy, then upgrade existing lasers to pulse.

Also, as a new player it is always best, IMO, to stick to 2 weapon groups (one for shorter range, one for longer range) max. More than that is just a lot to keep track of an can be confusing.

He's got 19 DHS already i doubt he's got enough space left for more heatsinks which is why i suggested mediums as they are just 1 slot each :P

Seems solid enough. Hope you have a decently sized engine.

I use this build is to go a little more heavy on PPCs and more secondary weapons. Here's my build with 4x PPCs, 4x SSRMs, 2xMLs, w/ 17 DHS.

The long range damage is very good up to about 540m which works for most engagements outside Alpine Peaks. If brawling occurs, the 4 SSRMs work well against most lights and the MLs are great last punch on that guy with a cherry red internal section that needs popping.

yes it's a little front heavy on armor, but usually rear armor loss isn't a problem, getting cored in the front CT is typically my biggest concern in regards to death.
