KDR is a meaningless stat. This should be replaced by the win loss ratio, which is slightly better as an indicator of performance (emphasis on slightly).

Thoughts?

Both stats can be totally meaningless, since W/L is also acquired through teamplay and you may inflate it by syncdropping or keep playing with 4 mans, having an easier life than those who pug alone all the time.

I say add also W/L, as well as avg damage per match, but both can be calculated in no time either way.

Win loss is nothing I have control over. But what I kill or if I am killed is all on my shoulders.

just record pug KDR and premade KDR separately. would be interesting to see how many times those damn pugs get me killed.

DAMAGE/LIFE

and you'd need to incorporate scouting/TAG into the "damage" metric somehow...

Unless you are a retentive person like myself and like to use stats to analyze personal performance, the only benefit of KDR and or WLR is for "groinal massage"...

So if you come across a badly damaged mech and hit it with a small laser for the kill its "all you"?

Yes but KDR is specifically tracked. Win/Loss ratio is not.

Yes but KDR is specifically tracked. Win/Loss ratio is not.

The problem is not only the KDR stat.

The problem is a meta which

does not encourage team play

but individual competition

in a team environment.

Change the meta and the KDR becomes

much more meaningless.

Given how the game works currently, I'd have to say that your KDR is a much better indicator of performance than W/L, especially if you're pugging.

Even alone, a good pilot can kill mechs... But he's not always gonna be able to guarantee the win for an incompetent team.

For that matter, why aren't assists tracked? Or assists per death, or kills + assists per death?

Other people cannot see your stats, so who cares?
Add more so people can see if they are getting better.
Let epeen children post pics of their uber leet stats if that's what get's their motor running.

Never let stats be accessible to other people, ever.

Both are meaningless pseudo e-Peens.

IME the only people that care about public stats are the same ones ones that feel that stats somehow give them the express right to use any stats of theirs that are better than that of a dissenting poster as a juvenile attempt to reduce the other party`s credibility.

This is why I directly oppose the idea of "forced" public stats in any game. Users should be able to keep them private if they so desire, because not everybody is interested in having their opinions on (Item X) questioned solely because some e-peen wanking douche that disagrees has a better /worse stat with it.

There is only ONE stat that actually matters, and it is a binary one: Do you actually play the game, yes or no? B)

WLR is meaningless. Drop WLR and track kdr, assists, saviors, and caps. Plus anything else meaningful to teamplay. You can be the best teamplayer buy you can't always carry your team.

More so than if the team wins and I do 29 points of damage. B)

What about if the team wins, and you top the damage chart but have no kills?

It is not often that such a thing will happen.
That's not to say it never happens, but it is generally going to be the exception rather than the rule.

Overall though, if you really want the best indicator of performance, the battle score on the scoreboard now is generally a pretty good indicator.

It actually happens to me quite a bit, but I have also been running SRMs a fair amount, while the people I run with have pin point damage weapons.

Did I say it was a perfect solution? I would rather be judged by my effort that how well the team I am on does. I've done that BTW. As a Fire Support Player. 8 Assists no Kills! 900 damage.

I have to agree with Zerberus. I feel displaying a player's overall stats tends to indirectly hurt the community for one reason or another. Most of us are capable of tracking how we are progressing in the game either way.

That said if stats are going to be tracked and displayed regardless, then I feel a ranking system based on the culmination of all the basic scoring stats would be needed and is a better testament to a player's skill. Something along the lines of this maybe?
  • Avg. Score per match (Objectives, can also be supplemented with Captures/ Savior Kills/ Component Destruction/Spotting)
  • Avg. Damage dealt per Kill (this must also take into account damage spread and accuracy)
  • Avg. Assists per match
  • Avg. Damage received per match (Based on a percentage rather than total armor value of the chassis)
  • Total matches played (W/L is not indicative of a Player, but the whole team. Save it for Merc Corps.)
