Phil, did you buy the rights for Battletech or this will be a free, fan-made game?
Anyway, nice job! The game has even melee. (please consider adding a multiplayer mode)

As long as the machines depicted in this game do not violate the BattleTech rights holders copyrights, or a licence has been granted/purchased, then they can make new art for there Mech's. Microsoft holds the rights, and issues licences to those that want to develop the interactive section of the franchise.
This will be the newest rendition of the "single player" foray into the BattleTech world in some time. I'm not counting the last "browser required style" game. (MechWarrior tactics) The preview looks like an updated Mech Commander type of game, but with direct control over the single Mech. Good luck with the work.

Appears to be a top down third person shooter from the looks of the preview video. They are actually pretty fun and since you have the top down perspective the devs can throw more enemies at you without overwhelming you. I am thinking something like Sigma Team's Alien Shooter series with a much slower pace and a BT flavor.

Btw, random thought while watching the gameplay footage: there's a way to implement torso-arm convergence - have the camera lock to the legs instead of the torso, give the free reticle to the mouse and have it torso twist automatically just as in MWO. I think that would add a lot of depth and I bet it's possible to do!
