It is absolutely no fun to lose 2-8 when you know have lost before the first shots are fired due to positioning of your PUGs mechs. One side or the other is playing PPC warrior online better than the other and they will get the other side down 2-3 mechs then the rush and kill the rest. Often times 3-4 mechs will not engage in the fight cause they are doing what the forums say and are staying behind cover. Then the ones trying to flank or make a game of just die in a ball of fire and the under cover folks just get dog pilled.
I think the problem is two fold. First ELO is measured as a group statistic (group win/loss sets points value) but is then used in matching as a individual statistic (you have an ELO and it gets you into your match). I have seen the graphs of the a nice Gaussian distribution of ELO but i would contend that those ELO values are largely inaccurate in measuring player skill cause they in no way measure player skill they measure team skill. You could be complete stud but if your team is stupid or has a couple stupid player that get away from the group and die it is over (the inverse of being trash and still winning also applies). ELO measurement needs to have some individual component to its measure like ranking within the match (top match score gets more points then low match score)
The second issue PPC warrior online. Right now the only counter to PPC is more PPCs. I know i know "move under cover", "you only get shot cause you are dumb", "learn to play noob". The issue is that the PPC crowd knows the fire lines and they are supporting each other. Many of the maps have sections where there is no cover to be had once the PPC team gets into position. Think of the ridge near the epsilon cap point on alpine there is the large no mans land and no way to approach under cover. I think the cause of this issue is two things. LRMs not being viable for taking out the sniper in hiding. Second, is inflated percentage of alpine and tourmaline where the PPC folks are home on large maps and don't have to suffer through river city where they can be flanked more easily. I absolutely dread alpine cause i know it is just a PPC fest.
