I started by reading about each faction in the factions section, it was ok. However it does not really go into any detail about each factions "philosphy", "tactics", "demeanear" are they aggresive?, Zealots?, Bullies, Snobs, Nice Guys??? etc.... sooo next.......

I went to the factions forums on these boards, but alas it's all recruiting threads, I can't seem to find much information there which has led to me here.

PLEASE
IN ONE OR TWO SENTANCES DESCRIBE A FACTION, OR ALL OF THEM OR CALL ME A NOOB, if you prefer, but I am sensitive and might cry.

thanks.

Everything's a really outdated stereotype of a stereotype that existed in the early 80s, when the cold war was still going on.

House Liao is the best BTW. Liao invented the Raven and the Cataphract, and have a cool sword on our flag. House Davion also has a cool sword on their flag, but they're Mary Sues.

3050. Madcat is another name for the timberwolf, which is a clan mech, that we won't have until 2014. We might have the clan guns and gear this year, but it's still up in the air.

Oh, you want to wait for the clans :P They should show up after launch. You'll probably want to join Clan Wolf - the Timber Wolf/Mad Cat is basically their signature mech.

Davion:

A combination of Colonial era Britain and France, House Davion is an expansionist power that is usually painted in the fiction as "the good guys", although this depiction could be as much propaganda as anything else. In later years they also work to be one of the more technologically advanced powers in the inner sphere. I believe the most famous quote of a Davion character is the phrase that started the Fourth Succession War: "Wife, in honor of our marriage, in addition to this morsel I give you a vast prize. My love, I give you the Capellan Confederation!" One hell of a wedding present, Eh?

But for the individual Mechwarrior, what you really need to know is the premiere Davion 'mech is the Jagermech. We love our dakka. We love our dakka so much, we put battlemechs on our autocannons. Even then, if you ask us if we have enough dakka, our answer will always be no- for you can never have enough dakka!

Ok let's make a quick casting call

House Davion / Federated Suns: These are your average colonial "good guys" Very keen on starting wars against anyone they see as a threat to the "freedom of man"... Really do not like Liao

House Steiner / Lyran Commonwealth: They are the merchant powerbase to the Davion military might. Fairly weak military wise but have very deep pockets and a knack foe cutting the best deal

House Marik / Free World league: The last sort of democracy and a general cluster-*bleep* of minor states bound together through different deal and treaties. Usually see them self a as victim of the bigger houses cruel whims.

House Liao / Capelan confederation: If it is "asian" but not Japanese this is where it end up. The ruling family is plagued by insanity and they make present day China look like Sweden when it comes to stuff like freedom of speech and other liberties. They also built the Raven battle mech... We are all grateful for that Also house Davion invaded them and took a lot of worlds recently... It was a wedding gift... if killing millions of people does not say romance... i do not know what does.

House Kurita / Draconis Combine: Space Samurai... Not much else top say. from time to time they give Liao a good run for the "most insane leader"-price. They did give a few of their worlds away so the former Rasalhauge military district could form

The Free Rasalhauge Republic: The youngest "house"(not really a house at all, but for the sake of simplicity) and the first new formed nation to ever get proper recognition... It lasted all of 20 years and then got eaten by tub-grown space fascists... But it will turn out well in the end. FRR is basically Scandinavia in space with a decent load of neo-norse mythology spread all over like nutella... In hindsight it might have been a bad move to put a nation that barley had a standing army along the only known part of the exodus road.

For more in dept info... go to Sarna or similar mech info sites.

It is kind of worth noting that post invasion the FedSuns/Davions and Steiners wind up with a decent quantity of Mad Cat Mk 1s and 2s. But that is like 10 years from now, in a time period where IS tech isn't completely outclassed and we get all the hawt new mechs.

Just how crazy is house Liao?

Also wtf are the clans? I keep hearing about them and their tech and even read some of the wiki regarding their invasion but what exactly are they? Radiers? Mercenaries?

There used to be a unified government controlling the inner sphere. Then a nutjob took over and ruined things pretty badly. His military leader took issue with that and rebelled against him. When it was done, that military leader realized there was no way to hold the inner sphere together, and basically said "**** this, I'm out" and took pretty much all of his troops and left to form a new, warrior based society out on the edge of the galaxy.

The Inner Sphere then fractured and went to war with itself, wiping out most of the really good tech and leaving behind only crappy, overheating rustbuckets to use in endless wars to decide the succession to rule the intersphere.

The clans are this warrior based society coming back to take over what they view as splintered and corrupt and replace it with their "superior" genetically engineered culture. They took their good gear with them when they left, and never forgot how to make it, in addition to inventing a bunch of new stuff.

The clans are the descendants of the Star League Army in exile. They were led by General Kerensky out of the Inner Sphere roughly 300 years ago to escape the politics and backstabbing prevalent at the time. In these 300 years they improved their technology beyond even what the Star League had. They are also split into castes. With Warriors on top followed by scientists, merchants, and laborers. Also the warrior caste is bred from tubes to be perfectly suited for each job, Elemental battlesuit warriors are bigger and stronger; while aerospace pilots are smaller with keen eyesight. That is the short version, anyone feel free to correct me my lore knowledge is not the greatest.

*edit* lol ninja'd

The factions mostly seem to represent different regions of pre WW1 Europe, with an extra sprinkling of racial stereotypes.
