Just how crazy is house Liao?

Well... The ruling family is crazy as a bag full of cats.. Apart from Candance Liao.. She is just a little bit crazy.. but on a good level... Max Liao is fairly close to the cat lady in the Simpsons and Romano is Plain and utter insane...

There are a fair bunch of the house of Liao that is not bat-shrid crazy... But the ruling family is f'ed up

And we'll have someone from house Marik in to detail their faction in just as soon as they finish filling out form 3882-B, "Notification of Intent to Post on a Forum", in triplicate.

You sure that won't spark a civil war over there?

I actually feel bad for House Marik sometimes with all their internal struggles. But I can't join them cause i love my Dakka too much.

Apparently by the year 3135, the area controlled by House Marik is known as "the former Free Worlds League" (from Era Report: 3145, preview). The FWL apparently disbands into the 6 major territories, with a bunch of independent worlds in between.

The only things you need to know about House Kurita are the following:

- We have a freakin' black DRAGON on a red background as our flag, I mean, look at those other sissy flags in the inner sphere...
- When you are not piloting a mech, you can walk around in a silk robe and nobody is going to look at you funny.
- When in-game, you can spam the chat with things that contain the words "honor", "honorable", "seppuku" etc and get on everybody else's nerves.
- You can take any mech and load PPC on it and nobody can accuse you of being Flavor of the Month, because that's the Kurita way.
- Our mechs go faster because we like to paint them red.
- Our honorable ancestors invented karaoke and automated toilets.
- Finally, when doing a push over the ridge, it's so much cooler to shout "Kuritaaaaaa!" than all those other names.

I can't believe no one's explicitly mentioned the German overtones in the Lyran Commonwealth. German's the official language, for Pete's sake.

Steiner: beer, money, incompetence, and money.

Don't forget the Steiner's famous scout lance. 4 atlases. They don't screw around.

Steiner- Lyran Commonwealth-Germanic/Northern Europe background. Bankers. As noted, famous for the 400 ton scout lance.

Signiture mechs tend to be Atlas, Zeus

Davion- Federated Suns-English/French et all background. Knights in Shining armor outlook. Hans Davion is known as a shrewd tactician, and loves his autocannons.

Signiture mechs tend to be Enforcer, Hatchetman and anything that has a ballistics point

Marik- Free Worlds League- Polyglot grouping of worlds, but includes lots of good ole boys from the American south, Mexico with a strengthening of American Indian. Overall a pretty fractious group.

Signiture Mechs are Catapult

Liao- Capellan Confederation- Chinese, Russian, Korean backgrounds. Noted for being led by whackos, though their warrior houses and merc units tend to be very notable.

Signiture mechs are Catafaract and Raven as well as Vindicator.

Magnussan- Free Rassalhaug Republic- Scandanavain, Norweigan. They were born out of a Draconis Combine Military District as a buffer between the Draconis Combine and the Lyran Commonwealth (its on the border between the two).

No signiture mechs as yet, though they tend to run many Combine models.

Kurita- Draconis Combine- Japanese descent. They are a warrior nation built on the code of Bushido, and honor and service to the Co-ordinator (their name for the emporer) is all. They are the Davions traditional enemy.

Signiture Mechs are the Dragon, Panther and anything that you can stuff a PPC on.

Clans- As stated Kerensky left with most of the Star League army. Who then formed the clans, a warrior society. There were 15(?) clans to begin with, but one was wiped out and several absorbed into others over time. The movers and shakers in the clans are the Jade Falcons, Wolves, Smoke Jaguars, and Ghost Bears. These led the drive into the Inner Sphere when the clans made their reappearance.

I thought it was just 4 assaults with atlases being the normal composition?

You can tell the BT universe is a real shitbucket when even the "good factions" are run by corrupt, warmongering despots who consider their citizens subordinates and assets rather than equal beings.

The clans come to purge the IS from the filth, but they too have very hierarchic autocratic societies, so in BT there is no escape for the liberty seeker. :o

It's just a joke about the incompetence of most Steiner commanders.

The Lyrans actually do produce and use scout mechs, including faction-specific variants of Commando, Locust, and Phoenix Hawk mechs. The Nightsky is a an example of a faction-made scout mech, rather than a faction-produced variant.

The Lyran Commonwealth/Alliance is quite fond of Atlases in particular. Anyways, if you're going with assaults why not go for the largest?

Correct, I was just curious as to the composition of the joke lance if it was always atlases or if others could be subbed in. But I do agree that the Steiner commanders are rather.... lacking in comand abilities.
