The more money and time I can drain from them by continuing to occupy their resources on the forums and on the game servers...

I don't think you know how servers work, Zaptruder...

A server is a really upscaled PC/ lots of upscaled PCs. There are only 2 states: turned on and turned off. As long as the server is turned on, the electricity/rent is the money it costs to maintain no matter if it has 1 player, or 2 million players on it.

well,first off,nice OP...
then, i don´t have any intentions to insult PGI, i got no personal problems with them... on the other hand, i am really not happy with how the game feels at this state. it´s exactly like PGI said it wouldn´t become... an arcade style twitch shooter like MW4 was... i was very very happy with the game during CBT... and i was hoping for nothing more than :

more (yaknow, tactical, mission driven) game modes
more mechs
planetary conquest
and yes, colours, patterns and cockpit items for sure... but i wasn´t expecting those and consumables to be priority...

i have seen progress of the game going weird ways lately, the gameplay becoming faster and faster... the total turn-away from role warfare as it was described, instead "letting the players pick the role"... we all can see which role most of them pick... there would have been so many possibilities for a deep tactical gameplay in that, but maybe it´s just too much work, so we only get plan B...consumables...

yes, as i said, that´s how i feel about the CURRENT state of the game (and there is much more, but i don´t feel like writing a novel here, and noone wants to read that anyway^^) and there is hope that the latest statement about "too high damage since hit detection gotbetter" leads MWO to a better way,and that it will finally become more of a simulation than an anarcade game for the coffee break...

and i really really hope that the introduction of an "MW:Tactics" like upgrade system won´t turn this entirely into the opposite of a BTU simulation...

So servers use the same power at idle as when under load? There's a whole lot of people doing it very wrong out there then.

Wow, this has to be one of the most incorrect things I've ever seen posted on these forums. And if you've spent more than 2 minutes browsing these forums, you know that's really saying something.

Judging by the proliferation of this type of thread the vocal minority are clearly either exceptionally vocal or not a minority.

Judging by the amount of the same names I see over and over and over again repeating the same things in a billion threads (you included) I could turn that right back around.

I don't often post. And it's in large part because the forums seem like some massive echo chamber for people who want to QQ.

By some people's logic, most of the users visit the forum nowadays to vent their frustrations or report problems... The vast majority of the users not posting at all, assumed reason being that they see nothing wrong with the game.

Or alternatively the game has just got progressively more imbalanced and buggy the more they've patched it.

Don't mistake complaints for negativity though, there's not many fan bases that would be this invested in a beta. That enthusiasm has proven a valuable resource once and can continue to do so if engaged correctly.

They kind threw the baby out with the bathwater there. Not only are they dismissive of the collective enthusiasm, intelligence and experience of their motivated and passionate fan base, they chose to squelch it, because they continued to adopt a general strategy of "they know better", "because our fans are idiots", which resulted in ever growing discontent, vitriol and anger. And then when ignoring it was no longer viable, they just buried the whole thing.

In the mean time, companies like Valve harness the power of their fan base by giving them a real share in the games and projects that they are passionate about.

What's utterly frustrating about the whole resonant wall of anger is that most of it could've been quelled by giving the player base the very simple tool of reinitializing UI/HUD stuff in game, and allowing us to reconnect. Of course, while they're cognizant that the latter at least would've been handy, it's very much a clear expression of their incompetence and poor management that they prioritize such a work around for all the bugs low enough for it to be a 'considered, but no idea when its coming if at all' item.

Btw, anyone who thinks these forums are, or have ever been, "toxic" have clearly never played EVE online and probably some others.

Everything's toxic to someone... Halo, EVE... any game has a large quantity of vocal unhappiness. I'm just glad that the toxicity of this forum isn't really as bad as it could be, due largely to the fact that BattleTech/MechWarrior has typically older followers.
