Lesson number 1 do not go head to head with a Kodiak under any circumstances. Lesson number 2 100 tons of falling mech is enough to reduce you, your mech, and your mechs family to a fine paste.

All those old Mechwarrior 2 Intro videos still give me chills to this day, that alone says something.

What does Jack 12 yell at the end of that video, just before the Kodiak drops on his head?

I've always wondered.

Probably "Freebirth!"

Which is funny because earlier in the video he uses a contraction himself "I'm"

Nah I don't think it sounds like ''freebirth''. And the Kodiak isn't a freebirth's Mech, either.

It sounds like ''payback'', thought that doesn't make any sense, either.

Perhaps the clue is in here somewhere, the plot of the GBL game...

''Taking place after the Refusal War, Ghost Bear's Legacy is the story of a new Ghost Bear warrior living in the Inner Sphere. Fighting off raids by mercenaries initially, everything changes when a raid by the Draconis Combine is successful in stealing the genetic material of the Clan founders Hans Ole Jorgensson and Sandra Tseng. Enraged by this attack, the Ghost Bears send units to track down the culprits, only to find the matter is not as simple as first thought. It would appear that the Draconis Combine has been framed for the raids as the BattleMechs used in the raid had been captured by Clan Smoke Jaguar several months before. This starts a search through the Clans to find out who is responsible. Strategically, this is essential; if the culprit were able to successfully finger someone else, a war would instantly ensue that could leave the Ghost Bears vulnerable to attack. Eventually it is found that the Smoke Jaguars themselves lost the BattleMechs in a raid by Clan Wolf. After the Refusal War, the Wolf Clan had been divided into the Crusader faction under Khan Vlad Ward (who remain aligned with the rest of the Clans) and the Warden faction. Sending units to investigate either possibility, the truth is soon discovered. It is two rogue Galaxy Commanders of the Crusader Clan Wolf (The Jade Wolves) who had stolen the material in the fake raid. The units sent to investigate Clan Wolf in Exile are allowed to honorably withdraw by the Wolves and the stage is set for the final battle.''

Any other idea on what Jack 12 says before he gets ''death from aboved''?

Personally, I always thought that the Jaguar's honour was giving in to fear at the end and he was shouting "Evac!"

I know it's probably not the case, but damn if it doesn't make crushing that surat all the more sweeter.

Pretty sure it is 'freebirth' (as in, a curse). Also I think it is 'Jag Base' and 'Jag 12' (not 'Jack'), given they are Smoke Jaguars.

This. 'Freebirth' was used as a curse in the books, not just an insult.

The CSJ Pilot it Jag 12, his command is Jag base and he yells freebirth at the end. How would anyone think he would yell anything different?

Freebirth is the Clans 'F' Word

Aff it is Jag and not Jack.

I thought it was ''evac'' but on dozens of listens perhaps it really is ''Freebirth''.

I've been wondering this for years, so thanks everyone!

The Bear awakens!

The stravag whelp of a Jaguar, yells "FreeBirth!" as one of our brethern ends his whining!

Kodiaks are 2nd line Mechs I believe not to mention the "Physical combat" aspect in using the DFA.

Though frankly at that point in the time line. SJ did not deserve any quarter.

Someone once asked me if Jag 12 was yelling, "Freebird!"

And the Kodiak is a second-line 'Mech, ergo a perfectly probable ride for a Freeborn. In fact, given that the MechWarrior performs a DFA, a Freeborn is more than a little bit probable. (Who else would use such dezgra tactics?)

Don't forget he's a Ghost Bear... the only Clan that actually supports families and thus freebirths in any shape or form.

Though it is also a 'Totem Mech' for CGB, so likely to be viewed more favourably than other BattleMechs.
