This is absolutely false. Especially so since elo was implemented (poorly) and many of us now frequently get screwed with utterly incompetent teammates way below our skill level for some ungodly reason. If this was call of duty, your damn right I could and would carry my team. But this is not. If I do 900 damage with 5 kills, one other person does 500 damage, and everyone else does less than 100 before committing suicide with no other kills. We lose. And there is not anything I couldve done about it. Since elo, this happens to me a majority of games. I am not sure why, but it is ****.

Further, regardless of this specific factor, the tournament is still not really a measure of individual skill. It's more like 30% skill and 70% luck. Just like all the past ones. Because this game is so heavily team based and the matchmaking is still such crap (both elo/player skill levels and tonnage balance still being largely MIA). Even if they took out the win loss factor, it is hard to get more than one or two kills/assists when 5 people on your team do less than 60 damage before committing suicide one by one.

Yea, this is sadly still true :P About 65-75% of games at least 4 of my team is pathetically bad. They run in and commit suicide doing 30 damage. They split up and run in random directions for no reason. I say "please stay together" they say "fack u nooob"...and then die 30 seconds later. Why the hell has it consistently been like this ever since elo was implemented? I do 700 damage, 6 kills. An atlas does 500 and the other 2 kills. 5 of the team tunnel rush on forest colony and die (as i informed them when I asked them not to do so) 3 doing less than 50 damage the other 2 less than 100. The last person runs around the tunnel in the open and dies. This happens a majority of my games, except usually I die only killing 2-3 when the odds are so bad. Whyyyy???? I am sick of this :o I want private matches.

that's what makes this competition so hard though. lot of games I play, its either super stomp or super getting stomped. its EXTREMLY hard to find games where your going to have miracle matches to get you to the top. all the top leaderboards knows this. only way to get around this is simple. play a lot. also , to get such high scores, I play very aggressively in the games. almost looks like im that ****** pug that goes off and gets killed. so its like im throwing it all down on the table or get nothing.

You play a lot of games aggressively. More defeats than victories and eventually Elo drops. On the lower ELO easier to pull the game 8 kills 700 damage, with superiority in skill. This is a bug of the tournament.
I play to win every battle, 2 days 42 wins 28 losses and 3 rd place in the overall standings (MEDIUM). I do not want to use the bug down ELO, but as I see it is the only way to first place.

Yeah I am seeing this too. The new tournament format is not bad, but in an attempt to remove the grind of the first tourney, the same thing is happening now, the grind for 5 epic games per day. For this tourney it is even more interesting. I'm unable to even get the 5 matches a day in more than 1 class, and have been sticking to my spider for lights to see how it comes out at the end of tourney just playing casually same way I do day to day.

Basically just becomes exactly what Koreanese said, a grind & some luck to nab those top epic scores.

various issues, no damage taken consideration. no capping consideration. no shot efficiency / headshots etc consideration. No tonnage/firepower consideration, im handicapping myself in a spider simply because I cant touch the DPS of a raven 3L in example. Nevermind that unless im hitting from behind or the head stripping stuff costs me way to much time and heat to really help my team.

So far the best match has been a 730dmg score with 3 kills 4 assists. pretty epic stuff, and when running a spider and 1 highlander alpha can be your end, its about 50% skill and 50% pure luck, teammates stripping stuff but you getting their kills, a shoulder/arm pops off through luck, you steal some dudes kill etc.

This tournament has been AWESOME. best one so far, and it rocks to see everything but LRM mechs out there recently (and a bit too much PPC), but still ive been impressed with the gameplay and the huge variety out there on the field.

Hopefully all this feedback will help PGI improve scoring, the more constructive you ugys are, the more it'll help the future game. Remember that these stats will also help for crunching CW stuff too most likely.

The tournament is great, I am having lots of fun, when I can play.

Since I suck, I've set my goal as such: I throw myself into the fray, and try to preserve my KDR, and see where I end up in the overall score.

Also, since I'm leveling/XP-ing my Highlanders (specifically LL+AC20+srm 733C), I exclusively play in Assault category with non-elite assaults, which is somewhat a handicap.
I only jump in with my CTF 3D or TBT 7M when my HGN is stuck in match for a long time.

So far was able to play around cca 50 matches in 2 days, cca 20 in day 1 and cca 30 on day 2, and after the 2nd day, I was 290-ish overall, and 302 on the day 2 board. Even in the case of only say 1000 contestants, thats good in my books, and I think there are way more. Nothing to brag about of course, and light years distance from top 15, but still.

Didn't play on day 3 so I have fallen back of course, to around the 500s overall (456. w/ 2,419), trying to play some tonight.

How I feel? Happy!
Why? Because the matches I participated in were almost all very intense, very hard, and there are usually 1 or 2 guys from the leaderboard on the opposing side every couple matches.

When I'm not scrap metal in the first few minutes, and manage to play semi-okay (I make lots of mistakes), I get around 1-2 kills, 2-6 assists and anywhere between 200-500 damage. My best match was 3 kills. Teammates and opponents are usually good players, aside from the inevitable stomps either way, they also claim their share from the kills/damage, so it is nigh-impossible to dominate.

My KDR remained the same (1.4 lulz), so I met my goal, and that makes me happy.

TL;DR: Intense, hard fought matches, still holding my own (stats not plummeting) mostly in spite of being old and tired after work+family day and playing late = fun.

My one wish: un-nerf SRM!

Now which 350 MC color to get? :P

Erh. That's why they're using the 5 best. Not your first 5.

Your 5 best is not a true picture of your ability. Are you as good as someone that plays 5 games an gets 1,200 damage each time if you have to play 200 games to get 5 1,200 point games?

Your 5 first games might not be a measure of your true ability either. What if your first 5 games have 3 d/cs in each one? (Sadly not unrealistic.)

These contests are broken since players are synch dropping to create "solo" 4+ man teams and the team is allowing individuals to boost there scores by allowing one person to do most of the damage to the enemy mechs.

All the team has to do is allow one person to shoot up one or two disabled or DC'ed mech and that person scores 1200 damage a match. There is play footage all over the net showing this occurring.

Proxis is an entirely separate thing from PGI's solo tournament. I hope that it does not compete directly with it.

I for one really enjoyed my Proxis and RHoD matches this week-end. PGI's tournament is a work in progress so I'm sure they'll get it right soon. I'm just not much for solo tournaments in a team game. Perhaps if it was 1v1s I would be fine with that.

This is more eloquently stated than I put it :) I seem to be a special case as most of the people in my unit participate in PGIs tournaments as well as our community leagues.

PGI can't afford it.

k time for an opt out button there is 2-4 sandbaggers every single game I play during these things, spend more time watching teammates than I do the enemy, and yes, I will always disconnect if someone wants to waste my time. you have to pay me to play with dumb*****

I definitely like the concept/layout of Proxis, and you (and any other members of Kaos working on it) have done a fantastic job with it thus far. I'm hoping to see our group joining in the fun there sometime very soon.

As you said though, the tournaments are a work in progress, and they've certainly made some great adjustments thus far. The fact that they have started to offer both MC and items as prizes is encouraging as well. But I would definitely like to see the addition of team based tourneys (and I know they're coming) as well as strict 1 v 1 scenarios. I mean, I would like to think I could give Psikez a run for his money and all that, but would likely end up on the losing side against him. :P
