I've worked up my plan in SSW, but I don't have the file / app with me at the moment - so here is a simple breakdown:

Atlas chassis
- 400XL engine upgrade (may have to start with a variant chassis, if engine types are not interchangeable)
- Max armor
- 4 Large Lasers
- Enough heatsinks to keep from ever having heat issues (can't recall the exact number needed; plan on using doubles)
- 2 x AMS, each with 1-2 tons of ammo
- Maybe ECM as well

The idea here is to surprise enemies with a fast-moving (relatively) Assault mech. Heavy protection from both close-in weapons and missiles. No ammo dependency (other than for the AMS).

I plan on going somewhat down the Command path, if it works out to make sense and actually let me lead a combat lance.

ARISE THREAD

Ever since I bought the Founder's pack I've been fiddling with new builds for the founder's mechs, mostly the Hunchback since I'm generally a medium mech pilot. All of them are obscenely expensive since they're packed to the gills with Star League technology (Ferro-Fibrous armor is a must in my designs) but it's darn fun fiddling with the potential builds of 3049. There was one Hunchback design in particular I was seriously considering making my primary mech build for the game, but I've decided against it because it relies too heavily on an XL engine. It's a solid design otherwise, at least in my opinion, that provides a ton of protection for the pilot -- it has the maximum FF armor allotment by class, a GECM suite and an upgraded 250 engine that puts the mech's speed more on par with other medium mechs -- and it takes a slight hit to its overall firepower in exchange for medium-long range primary weapons, as well as reducing ammo dependence, AND on top of all that it can fire an alpha strike and still break even heatwise. Despite being the best build I've come up with otherwise, tripling the risk of coring just made me way too nervous to use it, even with nine and a half tons of FF. The XL engine is also way too expensive for me to bother with.

So, yeah, I decided to post it just for the hell of it, for anybody who is cool with using an XL engine.

Looks like a Enforcer without JumpJets, so the performance have to be adequate.
However when it is possible to design the HBK in this way...it will mean we will never see a Enforcer - and i'm pretty sure that a lot of people will miss the Enforcer.

"Enforcer without jump jets" is about the long and short of it; direct fire support is what I'm best at so that's what it's built around. Depending on how the GECM works I might swap it out for an AMS with one ton of reloads.

I wouldn't count the Enforcer just yet. The Centurion is basically the Hunchback with missiles and it was the second medium to make it in, so considering the only medium with jump jets so far is the Trebuchet the Centurion still has a chance. Not if the Shadow Hawk makes it in, though.

well now you have 3 tons free that shouldn't be used for ballistic weapons. I would recommend a heavier enginge (maybe resulting in the lost of the Targeting Computer) However the lost of a TC isn't that bad as it looks...your total BV drops, your mech become cheaper and thats what concern me most your mechs thougness is highly increased. Mount Light Ferro Fibrous and you have a mech that doesn't look so dangerous and that is able to take some serious hits.

I can't think of many ways to get a Gauss, 2x ERLL and full armor onto an IS 75 ton chassis with 5/8 movement and max armor... Looking at 77 tons for XL 350 Engine, Endo Steel IS, 14.5 tons standard armor, Gauss, 2 tons ammo, 2x ER LL. I was able to switch to FF armor and still have two crit spaces open, but had to drop a half-ton of armor to do it.

And ALL mechs should have at least one ML as a backup, in my opinion, if not two. They are great for being able to do some damage when running hot (or hit by flamers) if you have any amount of heat sinks, or as backups when primary systems are out of ammo or destroyed.

Now, that is a stupid fast and heat-efficient long range brawler with near-max armor for the weight. But it has no tricks, it has no backups, it has no "plan B." On an open field, it will own - at least if all else is equal.

The base Marauder is 4/6, and that was the basis for me sticking with 4/6. And I like Targeting Computers, in TT at least, and also generally like versatility over "alpha strike" capability. Again, particularly in TT.

A gauss rifle on a mobile heavy mech is never a bad thing... take for example the Falconer...thats one of the best mechs i ever had the pleasure to play with...yes it has drawbacks because of less armor, and it is not very heat efficient...but you dictate the battle and your enemy has to react.
