Drop OP weapon... suddenly everyone wants to grind for the mythical OP weapon.

Great idea... if you were part of PGI's Balance Staff ™.

While I loath the idea of item collecting, I strongly approve of the idea of a huge spread of weapons based on manufacturer.

Mechwarrior Tactics is incorporating both of these ideas, it's too bad I likely won't play MTG mechwarrior edition.

I love the idea of AC20's that rapidly spray the damage over a few seconds vs. a giant slug... maybe for a little more heat and range... small tweaks that keep the weapons in the "class" they belong but allow you to choose how you want to play.

There's 1 successful example (of a game that is based on the mod of another game that people did pay to own originally) and thousands of failures.

That's like telling me I should drop out of college because Bill Gates is a billionaire.

No, there's one very successful game which people then hold up as "the success" because none of the rest are as successful.

It's like claiming WoW was the only successful MMO because it has such a significantly higher playercount than the others. But that does not mean the others failed, nor that they were not profitable. It just means they were not as successful as WoW.

This is a serious topic. It needs a poll.

*gasp* The audacity! Surely a forum rule must have been broken there? :P

Re: Topic.

I've always thought of Mechwarrior as the first loot collection game I ever played. I am surprised at the hostility towards loot / salvage to be honest. I always thought it was canon appropriate.

No irony in the fact that both of those games mentioned, which are highly successful, are based on Warcraft.

Unless people are willing to step away from the classic Mechwarrior formula, this game will be boring. Sorry, this game already IS boring.
There is no variety in the current model, it's built like the death match multiplayer that comes free with any paid-for campaign based game. It feels like an add on.

There needs a sense of adventure, something to explore. Variety in the game, a reason to spawn. Sure, death match is "Fun" but when I come in first or third place each match, it's boring.

WoW is also subscription based, so "WoW was the only successful MMO (at the time) because it [had] such a significantly higher playercount....". It killed all the other MMO's, because everyone was playing WoW.

Mechwarrior won't be successful if other popular MMO's are still popular. The game base world-wide isn't as large as you think, and if World of Tanks is popular, people will be where the population is.

If you consider the % of subscription accounts that are designed purely to generated spam, the online MMO population will be less 1% of the world population.

Also; you must realize that any corporate sponsors for WoW or League of Legends are going to generate a significant amount of the income for the business, not the subscriber base? Companies will pay them to advertise their products, such as AMD gaming machines or Nvidia "the way it's meant to be played". Just because of the high player count and pure data mining, corporates are all over that. Look at the "Free to play" business model that is Facebook

i think people are against the hero special weapons crap, which is a bad idea, not salvage itself.

hero mechs dont give you bonus damage mitigation or increased damage or increased heat dissapation. they give you a cbill or xp bonus, which has no effect on gameplay.

The only I think that I may agree with this on this topic is the idea of an auction/trading house. I have a couple of guys who just picked this up, and while I have invested a lot of time playing, they have not - would love to be able to sell/trade them some of my mechs and give a little boost playing this game, get them invested, engaged, and keep help them coming back for more.

I really enjoy this game, it's a blast and I really am amazed how well this game plays in beta. Yeah it has bugs, but I can live with them and I know they will get sorted out.

It is the fans of this game and their ability to get others interested that will bring them to the table, compelling co-op and gameplay will make it succeed or fail; not some Diablo-like salvage system. I know you like your idea, but despite your claim I think you would ruin a good thing.

Yes. It will just magically pay for itself. It will be free for everyone because other people will pay for it for you.
