I am more in favor of removing SHS and balance the game around DHS...

SHS are like a "Rusty Shortsword" in CRPGs - starter gear, useless, weak, but you're expected to upgrade. At endgame, you wield +10 Vorpal Greatswords, and the game is balanced at that top level.

Leave the Githianki's out of this!

Finally Madcatt vote!

The logical answer would be to make all in-engine heatsinks 1.0 DHS or not. That would turn turn DHS into a 1:1 critical slots for tonage exchange rather than the effect of 10 free SHS.

That would still have problems though. SHS would still only be worth having in a few very limited situations. The sniper/poptart meta would shift to more GR. In the case of poptarts, there may be no shift at all, if you overheat in the air, don't you just fall to safety? Hurts the legs, but not wildly punishing. It would also have some odd, possibly unfortunate, effects on some mechs. Oh, and we're still toasted when the clans come.

They never put double heat sinks in. What they gave us wasn't good enough.

Unbalances Game.

I see alot Of threads to remove SHS and that is the exact opposite of what is needed. Most of the problems and complaint threads I've seen can all be laid to at the feet of DHS tech.

Clan Tech shouldn't even be here. Redacted because my timeline is wrong and my lore is severely lacking and I have no intention of reading it all . I would just like to play a balanced game that is as intended by the original Battletech which looks to me like is getting farther away every thread.

And please just argue the DHS removal.

it's not dhs it's not boating it's not high damage alphastrikes...these are all part of the game concept. it's the stupid hardpoint system and the fact that they took the system but left out the negatives.

in battletech you cannot fire 90 heat worth of weapons without taking damage. possibly dying...

they need to put in heat effects and (overrideable)software limiters to weapons fire just like battlemechs are supposed to have. that way if some ***** want's to commit suicide he can.

I
d like to point out that the Devs made the game this way on purpose...got to the videos and look at what they like to drive.

Original Battletech was a strategy game. This is a Sim/Shooter. It's not going to be the same. If you want something more like original Battletech, try MechWarrior Tactics.

it can be both and was on it's way early on, but has gone off track since.

i find the growing list of "real problems" to be entertaining. as if getting rid of one thing will just magically fix any and all balance issues.

Yes, way too much of this. I like seeing well thought out suggestions, but these nerf this, or get rid of that type of suggestions are always based on one guy's dislike of the game play.

Sorry man this is the beginning of the Tech Renascence. Dubbs are here to stay and to replace singles. I personally want to see them work as intended (ie twice as effective as singles).

Add to this, they are such a great benefit to virtually every mech, only the poorest of the poorest of nations and outfits will use singles in about 5 years.

It doesn't matter what any of use think (although the vote is pretty obvious.(any time THIS community can agree in such a large %...)

but yes, it doesnt matter. Because there is NO way PGI is going to do it. Evey if it was 100:1 the other way.

personally i say bring in the clan tech,.... i love clan tech.

go steel viper.

what i have a problem with is omfg line of sight for scanners ?
realy ?
thats just fuked up. LOS is for direct fire weapons, not sensors.
i also think ECM needs reworked.
as well as BAP.

a missile boat sporting BAP and ECM should be a terror.

some mech combos should just be better. and machine guns ,... come on.

their a waste weapon,... or should be. they should be a crappy weapon (or just not available).
my oppinion of machine guns is they should be about as effective as pain scrapers. not lethal sand blasters.

MW4 may be old but it is stil lthe best mech game imo.

MWO seems so far to me to be a compilation of MW3+MW4 flaws with a pretty paint job, with few of those games strengths.

as far as DHS yes their IS tech the clan ver is much better.

SHS and DHS are just FINE.

That said...

The problem is not the heatsinks - it's that the game have no other heat punishment apart from risk of shutdown.

A proper heat mechanic that lowers:
-Speed
-Cycle Rate
-Heatsink delay timer before activating
-Twist speed
-Turn speed
-Acceleration
-Decelleration
-Overall Heatsink efficiency depending on heat level (getting overworked due to excessive heat and becomes better the cooler the mech runs)
-Damage to heatsinks and internals when overheating

The above would solve a lot of things.

Single heatsinks still have their places on mechs that literally dont NEED more than single heatsinks. Honestly though, those mechs are far and few between like the SDR-5K.

I am one of the few people who voted Yes.

The game was 100000X better before they released

but thats due to a lot of factors, DHS being one of them

3025 would have made for a much better\balanced game

Right now there is a 1.5mil tax on every purchase

Stupid stupid mechanic

So you're saying you miss the days when the best mechs were gausscats and quad small laser atlases? Because I don't.

I hate to admit it but yeah.

I think the real reason I miss those days are

Collisions
Low damage builds
Mediums were way more viable (they could harass heavies and tackle lights)

the only huge issue was the fact that the catapult was ungodly powerful back then.

From the Streakcat to the AC\20 cat to the gausscat.

but atleast the AC\20 cat overheated like a *****,

Collisions was a stunlock mechanic. I hated it, and abused it.
There was no such thing as 'low damage builds.' Gausscats completely walk all over any claims that MWO ever had low damage builds.
Mediums were even worse back then, because every single heavy, and all the jumpjetting lights, could stunlock them forever with knockdowns.

We obviously had very different perspectives on how the game was playing back then.

I never abused knockdowns, I just used them. ;)

Very rarely was I knocked down, and it wasn't my fault.

Totally agree on the gausscat, they should have adjusted the hardpoint system 9 months ago

Not gonna happen now
