I previously said this was my third Stalker variant. Yea, no longer the case. The hardpoint layout just doesn't do it for me. I can't think of any good builds with it. The ballistic for the cost of a few Missile and Energy? Ehn... *shrug

I'll work for an Atlas if I want an Assault with ballistics. For now, STK-3Fury is my PPC boat, STK-5Miasma is my ASRM-4 build, and either the STK-3H or -5S is going to be my LRM boat. Leaning towards the -3Hellfire. :3

Maybe if machineguns get buffed again in a few months, we'll be able to run a 4x ERPPC 1x MG build...

Currently running 4LL, 1 ML and gauss (3t ammo) and I must say, despite being the #1 focus fire target, it holds up surprisingly well. Has the same alpha as my 4LL, 2 ERPPC 3F, is slightly weaker at extreme range, but far more heat efficient despite having only 16 DHS. I.... think i might really like this one after all.

I dunno, its better than the Yen Lo Wang, but it still feels like it doesn't have something special that really makes it good... ONE ballistic slot, and at too high a price... ugh. Its like the Pretty Baby all over again, but with a better color scheme...

At least the Heavy Metal had its direct fire weapons spread out, and the Ilya had dakka potential...

I'm having a ridiculous blast in it w/ac20, x2 erppc, std 300.

Worth it. Also, only hero I've purchased.

Edit:

I was still disappointed it only had 1 ballistic; wanted x2uac5 :)

Well, as promised, I bought it and I've playd it for about 4 hours now and honestly for a Stalker it feels underwhelming. The hardpoints are too restrictive. The Misery sacrifices too much to add that single Ballistic hardpoint. After trying every conceivable build with less than fair results I ended up going back to using a Standard 280 engine with 23 Double Heatsinks and 5 Large Lasers. Sad really, considering I can do this with a STK-5M any day of the week without paying real money. I had hoped to accomplish more with this 'Mech but alas that was not the case for me. Beyond the 5 Large Lasers the only build I found somewhat effective was 2 ERPPC's, 2 Medium Lasers and 1 AC/20. While some may feel they enjoy this 'Mech, I have found it is not the one for me.

Great variant. 5x flamers, 1x MG and a NARC launcher. What can go wrong?

Nonono.

4 flamers - you need a TAG for your NARC.

I played Misery for 17 matches last night, grinding the basics. I'm using 300STD, Gauss, 4x LL. KDR is now 3.0, which I consider OK for a mech without basic efficiencies. I do dislike and was disappointed about the lack of missiles, and also first tried a plain 5x LL build. Despite my inital reservations on using a Gauss on a Stalker, it does help a lot with heat management. So far I've only shutdowned when I was absolutely sure that alpha would kill the enemy, which hasn't always been the case with my 6x LL 3F with comparable alpha damage. The added range is a nice bonus.

It's no 3F, but I'd say already at this point, with just basics, I feel that it's about as nimble (if you can use the word with stalkers) as a full elite 3H/4N/5M/5S. With full elites I expect it to be a bit worse than the 3F in this regard, but clearly above the rest.

You could claim that the same build I'm using would be better on an Atlas-RS (which I do own as well), and you'd be sort of right. In sheer DPS the Atlas will beat Misery with slightly better heat efficiency, but the high positioning of the energy hard points can be a huge advantage over the low-flung arms. Case in point: a small hill between me and an Atlas at Alpine, the Atlas was retreating. For 10 seconds I could keep only the top third of the Atlas in my vision so I could core him with ease without him having even a chance to shoot back.

Only 1 missile hardpoint limits build variety a lot, and 3F remains the king of Stalkers. At least nobody should be able to complain about Misery being OP. I'm pretty sure it will be my go-to c-bill grinding mech for a while. :)

If missiles are returned to their former glory I'll take the 5S over the 3F any day

That one missile slot sure is disappointing. My assault builds always include streaks to scare off those pesky lights but it seems that is not an option with Misery. I'm trying to determine which is better between 4ML 1LPL 1SRM6 1AC20 vs 5MPL 1SRM6 1AC20. Lacking in long range power in this age of PPC, but I can dish significant damage even if I only live for 30 seconds in combat. Needless to say even Atlases cower in fear if I get within 200m.

That was my point, in fact. I originally posted to say that although I was excited to see a hero Stalker, I don't like the hardpoints or quirks, so I won't be buying it.

Now that the patch is out and I have seen the details this is pretty much my opinion too.

Could the restrictive hardpoints have anything to do with the P2W screaming crowd?

can't get the mech yet, and it looks good, but it can be a better mech with 1 more missile hard point. should be able to mount 2 srm6 or 2 lrm20 to fend off bugs for an extended fire fight. just wondering can you mount a AC20 in Misery? if not that needs to be changed too!

I wonder how popular the Misery is? I was a bit surprised I didn't see more of them last night. When the Highlander Heavy Metal launched, those damn things were everywhere.

Anyway, I like the Misery. It feels different from other stalkers. Slapping an AC/20 or Gauss on a stalker takes some getting used to, but it can be very effective.

Misery is my first hero mech. I've been running it thus:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...cd153c5ac68ae9a

It's actually pretty fun, and does reasonably in a fight, although I seem to draw a lot of fire. I wouldn't say it better than the other stalkers, just a bit different. It is nice to have the CB bonus while riding in a stalker. Now only if they would make a nice catapult hero for me....

Edit: yes, I know there are some suboptimal choices in my build (MPL, AMS), but I build for enjoyment, not min-maxing everything.

Spent some time in the Misery, its now my forth stalker frame and I have to say I'm not overly impressed with it. Its too hot turns like a river barge carrying 200t of coal and in my honest opinion missing 2 hardpoints over the 3F, with all the elites unlocked the 3F beats it 100% in manouverability and heat management. So I will go in my hanger unused and i'll return to my trusty 3F. It's a nice toy to fill my Stalker garage but sadly it will never see the light of day again.

Having used it for a day now ... I really don't get it how anyone would scream P2W about this one. It is a fun 'Mech for a Stalker pilot as it lets you play a big balistic cannon ... but this doesn't have anything to do with being superior or letting you win more.
