What the title says. What is a 'zombie' build in the context of MWO, why might it be desirable, and why is it called a 'zombie'? It seems like it has something to do with surviving the loss of a torso section?

Thanks!

Pretty much a toughness or survival thing. With a standard engine and weapons on the CT, even with the side torsos blown off your still in the fight. If you don't use the XL engines your harder to kill if you use torso twist to spread the damage to arms and side torsos first. Thus requiring a lot more damage done to you to kill you.

Greetings,

Normally that term would refer to having a build that can still function after loosing both arms, say a Mech with weapons in the center section only.

Or also a Mech that has had all it's weapons removed, (destroyed or stripped off) by the enemy. As well as the items mentioned above by "Lege".

all for now,

A zombie mech is a mech that can continue fighting effectively even after it has taken extreme damage. They partly originated back in the days when repair and reload cost money - your mech recieved partial repairs and reloading for free, but cost cbills to fully repair armor and reload missiles and shells. A zombie mech could go back into the fight without any repair or reload since the center torso was always restored for free.

A zombie mech is built around the center torso and head - even with its arms and side torsi destroyed the zombie mech continues to dish out damage. The Centurian is a popular choice - with a standard engine and lasers in the torso it can use its speed to keep moving around the enemy and dishing out damage, long after it should have been rendered ineffective.

Originally, zombie was considered a non- xl centurion with its side torso sections blown. Its profile is really thin then, and many people are amazed, what twin mlas can do to them.

A mech can Zombie if it can fight well after losing a lot of parts. Usually both arms and possibly a torso section, sometimes down to CT and cockpit only.

What others have said. The mechs that able to perform this type of mode are only handful of mechs with CT and head mounted lasers such as the Centurion, Hunchback and other mechs with and only with standard engines.

Centurions are boss. I really like them, the fact that they can take a lot of abuse and still continue fighting. They are the most common mechs to be used a "zombie".

Yep, you guys covered this pretty well.

The only thing missing from the thread is Why do you want to zombie?

The answer is in a team environment, every single alpha strike you make the other team waste is a moment your guys can be shooting at someone else. Forcing people to continue shooting at you and forcing them to blow off every single part to bring you down is a highly effective way to do that.

True. Though honestly I feel like that mech is a metal coffin.

Is the Cataphract-4X a good zombie? As the mech has the best "loadout" to be a zombie (2E CT, 1M HEAD), it would seem like an interesting choice...

I'm thinking it wouldn't be that great due to its speed.. and subsequently the Awesome-9M would be similar...

Missile hp in the head.....At most you're going to be able to use a single srm4, and that's if you've kept ammo for it in your CT.

Not the best. Maybe not even good.

The 9M would be better simply because of the fact that it would have a laser at it's disposal. At best a single mpl, sure, but we've all seen what a single laser can do. Still piddly, but better than CTF-4X, imo, at least with regard to zombie-ability.

With Merc Corp I belong to it is always a Mech that is "walking dead". No weapons left and doesn't know its dead yet.
