I'm looking to master the Hunchback chassis. I have already gotten all of them to the Elite level, but I need to finish unlocking them for the 4G and 4H. I'm looking for some fresh ideas to play with on the 4H right now to finish it.

Strap some giant guns to it and kill people.. :D

Helmstif has posted a great hunchback guide with hundreds of ideas in it. Check the medium mech guide sub forum.

First things first... add DHS and EndoSteel. Okay, now we can talk.

The 4H is good for AC/20 + 5ML... gives a powerful strike, but you are stuck in close-range fighting. If close-range is your thing, then the 4H is actually a better wielder of the fabled AC/20 than the 4G because the 4H can mount more MLs than the 4G can.

Of course, you can do the usual Gauss + 2 or 3 MLs to keep the enemy at range. Using a near-standard load out of AC/10 + a bunch of ML is good, too, but risky. The AC/10 loadout, spec'd for ~450-500 meters leaves you vulnerable to enemies with Large Lasers, PPCs, and even AC/20's, though (AC/20 still deals 10dmg at 540 meters).

You can't load multiple UAC/5, AC/5, or AC/2 with the 4H so Gauss is your only real long-range ballistic heavy-hitting option. On the other hand, you can mount PPCs on the 4H... Your enemies will always aim for the Hunch, so an ERPPC in the Left Arm might do you very well ;-)

As a crazy-build, my favorite class of build, you can mount a Gauss in the RT (with CASE), 3 tons ammo, an ERPPC in the Left Arm, and a 255 XL Engine with 304 pts armor. Yes, it's an XL Hunchback, seriously crazy, but it's quite formidable in a sniping war because it practically can't overheat, runs fairly fast, has huge amounts of torso-twist and range of arm motion, and the Hunch brings the Gauss up high enough to not turf your shots.

CASE doesn't work with XL engines. with a STD engine, it does prevent the Gauss explosion from damaging the center torso, with the XL engine, the Gauss explosion will still destroy the engine component in the side torso.

that said, the Gauss + 5MLas build is what i'm going to do with my 4H. if you didn't do the AC20 build with your 4G, though, i'd recommend you give that a try, running the AC20 on a Hunchback is a blast. fitting in 5 MLas, though, does restrict you to a smaller engine unless you go XL (my 4G runs a STD 250 with 3 MLas, the AC20, 4 tons of ammo, Endo, Ferro, and DHS)

You could run it default. The idea is fresh because no one does it. :D

But seriously, I've swapped the cannon altogether with a twin ER PPC rig at some point. I go back and forth.

HBK-4H

Run around at 92.7 kph with the tweak and hit people with an AC20. When you get close in you hit them with 15 point SL volleys.

This is my 4H:

STD 260 1 UAC5 5 ML
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...aea76091b79e3e2

Runs a little hot but has quite a lot of firepower. Protect your hunch.

I tried this build on my 4H and I didnt like it and the UAC5 is frustrating with its constant jams.

I still cannot enjoy the 4H as much as the 4SP in close combat.. The 4H needs to stay on mid-long range to work best as far as I see..

Now I fitted my 4H with 2 LL and 1 PPC to sort myself out for the mean time..

The UAC definitely isn't for everyone. The 4H really only lends itself to 1 big ballistic + lasers of which the UAC is about as small of a single ballistic as you can get while still being powerful on its own. A single AC5 is very lackluster though I supposed you could use an AC2 as a dps weapon while your lasers are cooling down. Maybe something like this? http://mwo.smurfy-ne...4a8977ab7fe245a Alternatively you could go bigger with an AC20 but you will probably have to compromise the engine.

It sounds like you enjoy energy weapons though so have you taken a look at the HBK-4P?

I wrote a Hunchback Guide that includes the 4H if you want to check it out.

AC/20 + 5 MLs for me. STD200 engine is slow, but this build packs a wallop. I've found I can kill Jagers before they kill me, more often than not. Highlanders too, as long as they don't see me right away.

that is not a crazy build lol this is my version i have run a bit it was pretty fun surprising people with the amount of weapons i had:http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=1&l=f7ee05c132bc3a39c8c5318f5df5ef3af461e975

My grandmother used to say, "Son, a slow Hunchback is a dead Hunchback". I took her advise and never ran with an engine smaller than 250.

Imo you need those 250+'s for the 10 heatsinks so you can save slots for the heatsinks and get the FF armor upgrade too. Slow HBKs get one or two alpha's and simply die or, at least, loose their hunch.

This is basicly the same as Ser Barrsitan but with a 250 instead of a 260 and replaced 2SL with 2 ML. It is a very nice build.

So I built this last night.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...caa4237eafcd00f

The ERPPC and the AC2 are grouped and I fire them that way. The first shot hits for 12 points of damage since both projectiles have the same speed. In between PPC shots I keep firing the AC2 to keep the pressure up. Its not entirely effective yet but that has more to do with how I'm used to playing. It also runs surprisingly cool if you're not also spamming the lasers.
