And Done

I want mechwarrior to be more than that. I want a mixture of lance composition that encourages tactical teamwork.
I'll check back in a couple of months from now. Maybe something will change.

Not all is lost...
(edit - yes, two AC/2's with 8 tons of ammo and 17DHS. I simply did not stop firing, but my teammates slowly went out from our group 1-by-1 until they were scratched off.)
(edit2 - my kill was a pop-tart Highlander ;-)

However...
Most people I played Battletech with, would bring one or more Warhammers, Mauraders, Battlemasters, Griffins, or any number of Gauss and/or PPC-carrying models.
When proper tactics (and lucky roles), some units wouldn't even last the first round (assume equivalent 10 seconds in MWO), yet alone close enough to make it to medium range (240-450m).
But I'm sure everyone knows this.
The difference here, comes in several forms, with some of the more prominent in terms of computer performance, latency and connection stability, and lastly skill. Host-State-Rewind is in there too, bit the others are arguably more important.

There is somthing interesting I was observing the last two nights of play. I use LRM yet on a few mechs, and two things jumped out- first, the speed buff for travel times they talked about is really needed, but I hope they dont make it too much faster. While it is a tad on the slow side watching the missiles arc through the sky, IMO it only feels that way because of the rate of travel from things like AC2's from ranges like twice as far away. Which then brought my other observation, and more important, 1000M really just isnt "long" for range but not because of the other weapons, but because of the travel speed combined with the maps.
people gripe about alpine, but really, alpine would work out really well IF there wasnt this iherent need to cover your base, which requires you to hide on the high ground at max range. If lances could advance through cover, and LRM had a normal travel speed, the dynamics would change on that map, and on a lot of others too. I am hoping the missile fix wll finally bring some potential to loadouts with mixed ranges, and weapon types. LRm for indirect fire to soften them up, a long range direct fire weapon for a snipe, some shorter range weapons for fending off brawlers. It would feel more battle tech then, and less min/max warrior I think. My most fun mech right now is my phract 2x with a 325XL engine(does 80+kph) a Large pulse laser in one arm, 2 erppc in torso, and a lrm5 and lrm10 in the other arm. Its mobile, its got lrm fire to drop over hills for dmg and area control, its got erppc for direct fire dmg, and a lrg pulse to make those pesky lights run off the way they came. It is effective, sometimes on some maps, would be moreso if the LRm went a little faster, and LRM5 werent useless 100% against a single AMS.
i dunno, I hold hope for the systems yet. Now the perpetual broken patcher on the other hand.....

Oh, come on... everyone has heard the age old tale of the person whom after ejecting, fired their infantry SRM and scored a critical hit against a fresh Atlas, detonating its ammo, and saving the day. Heck, it was even documented in an old Holovid that seemed to be the only movie you could watch on old Pacifica... watching the same movie every time... no wonder people got rowdy.

I don't recall telling anyone to boat anything. You succeed in a metagame by staying ahead of the curve and using the next big thing, not by using what's popular and everyone already knows about.

Remember the way Elo works.
If someone in a light mech is in the same Elo as your assault, it means that on average they are as effective as your assault mech, in their light mech.
How good a pilot do you think it takes to be that effective when you can be killed or crippled in a single alpha strike?

I've played both against...and (shudder) with you prosperity....your bad builds are truly bad and always have been. I'm glad you got a good match with it though...makes up for the next 20 that you don't I guess.

What satisfaction do you get from this? Arguably, you're inviting your own eventual nerfing if there is only One True Way to build Mechs to you.
LOL...you'll understand one day....I've played with and against Prosperity in the days when he was a troll not a mod. His builds are always bad role-play garbage...'almost' everyone knows this
And yes...I love me my ellipseses...kudos to you for understanding the term for them

(yes, I sign my name just to peeve people with weak arguments off...get over it
Edit: and my God....I've never played WoW, CoD, or any of the other trash mass-sheep games...hate me for who I am, but don't lump me in with that sort

A long time ago Gauss was totally OP, a couple of days ago LRMs and SRMs where OP, yesterday SSRMs where OP, now Gauss and PPC are OP and tomorrow....well we'll see.
Still....I stopped playing regularely two months ago because it simply got boring.
There simply isn't any equipment that is realy, realy hard to get or to afford.
Even weapons that should be rare and REEEEEAAAAAALYYYY expensive ( IS weapons or not ) like Gauss or PPC or Lasers aren't restricted in any way.
If you zoom out a bit and watch the game from a distance there is realy no big difference to the game as it was at beginning of the open beta.
Yes they added essencialy 2 maps ( mods of the same map are just hillarious shame on you in other games you can trigger night and day or even different weather conditions on start of a match) and some mechs.
No custom made matches, no selectable game modes, no bots, no background, no accolades, acheavements or other goals to reach, no music, still no clans dispite the time line...just no reason to play.
The tweaks done to the performance and the bugfixes ( or bugspawns ?) are ... nothing that should happen in a beta.
As far as I am concerned this games status is that of a product near the end of closed alpha. As it was when open beta started.
The concept is Intresting never the less but I remember times when people were payed to test such a product and not the other way round
I hope the real development goes on behind closed doors and this....patched up demo of a game is just something they put out early for raising funds for development.
Yes the more I think of it the more I like it.
This is just a demo boys and girls ( at least I hope so )
The real game will come someday....sooner or later....later would be preferable I think.

I agree completely.
Last night I really wanted to play MWO, I was looking forward to it all day, but after one round I quit. It's simply a sad feeling in this game right now.

I fear it would lead to surgical attachments to MWO from other MMOs where it just doesn't fit: stuff like raids or other bizzare mechanics.
I guess I'd be all right with some secondary 'salvage' mechanic which could gradually build up to Clan equipment, but even them I'm reluctant.
You seem to be calling for "purples" like in World of Warcraft, and likely the same approaches in how to get them. To that I say no, that is a bad thing.
Never said anything about salvage or "elite" items.....
I just said the unquestionable technological more advanced weapons or Star League class weapons like streaks, LB-X, all hightech weapons like energy or semi energy weapons shouldn't be that easy to get.

Why do you use "roleplaying" in such an angry derogatory way? Is it any less "nerdy" when 8-40 people all break into some giant monster's house, and stab him in the ankles and shoot sparkly bolts at him for an hour or so, until he finally falls over and then everyone argues on teamspeak who loots his magic shoes?
Like it or not, one of the major draws of this game is that it's based on the Battletech/Mechwarrior franchise. If it was called "Blasty Bots Online" it would probably never have left the crowdfunding stage due to lack of interest. Simply throwing out all the immersion, atmosphere and backstory flavor to please your hatred of "roleplayers" is not just selfish and dumb, it is bad business for the guys making this game.
All that "sheep" talk is also self-serving. You're implying how unique and elite you are by saying so. And frankly, I'm not buying it.
Oh aren't you a cute piece of troll bait
As far as me being 'unique'...not even close to the mark. I simply understand what's good and bad in this game...if you're defending that gimped build, than you do not understand this...meh...makes no nevermind to me, and I'm far from angry over this arcade FPS...I actually find it quite fun when I get lucky grouped with both intelligent teamates and opponents. Sadly, it's usually one or the other composed of role-playing smarties who think they're great because they're last man standing.
