I happen to be an avid overclocker, and was wondering if anyone else here enjoys free performance boosting.

Not until I get a third party cooler for my i7-2700K. The stock cooler is a joke. Tried upping my frequency to 3.9 and it jumped 15C. On the otherhand, my MSI Twin Frozr GPUs overclocking excellently :P

Any suggestions as far as a 3rd part CPU cooler for the 1155 socket?

If i could with this particular machine I would. That being said, when I get my new build from Newegg in a month or two, Ill be overclocking that i5-3750K for all its worth! Liquid cooling is an amazing thing :P.

By the way I wanted to thank you for pointing that GPU out to me, as i've just gone and secured the last one that fry's had. Everything i've heard about it is good, and i wasn't even aware it existed until you told me about it :D
As for 3rd party cooler that one is up to you, my suggestion is either a Cooler master Hyper 212 or the H60. Hyper 212 is a good simple cooler that works great (used it on my last build no problems) and the H60 is liquid cooling. What im getting in my next machine.

Cooler Master Hyper 212: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835103099
Corsair H60: http://www.newegg.co...5181015&Tpk=H60

Good to hear! I hope it treats you as well as it has been treating me.

I was going to suggest either the 212 or the Zalman CNPS9500 (which by the way is the most badass cpu cooler I've ever seen aside from some V-series by coolermaster).

Have a liquid cooled system with an intel core2quad 9550 which normally runs at 2.83 ghz. I've got it running at 3.4 ghz and it rarely breaks 30c under a load. I could easily OC it further...but I honestly have no need to currently.

Intel's Core series do overclock nicely. Someday I hope to have the fundage for a liquid cooler, but for now, I have a makeshift air cooling setup that involves zip ties...

I hadn't seen that Zalman before, but the feedback is excellent (especially for that price range). I had been looking at some $70 solutions, but I think you're post changed me mind.

I've had my E8500 sitting at 3.8 ghz for 4 years, could have gone higher had I gotten higher speed ram.

But for my next upgrade I'm debating between going sandybridge i5 2500k and trying for 5ghz, or going with ivybridge, and being happy with 4.5ghz and pci-e 3.0. It's not like any game is going to particularly challenge either at that speed for now.

I've also just finished overclocking my new 6950. 880 core 1300 memory. The driver fails in Skyrim at 900 core, so it would probably be fine at 890, but 10mhz isn't worth it. Memory could probably go a little higher too, but it hardly matters in gaming.

I personally use the evo 212. I was extremely impressed with how well it cools.

Currently running 3770k at 4.5 Nothing fancy outside of that :(

Got i5-3570k @ 4.6 for 24/7h
Using noctua dh-14 and my cpu is at around 70c under full load.
Altho wish id went with corsair h100 with noctua fans for push/pull combo

i7-3930k OCed to 4.6Ghz with Corsair H100. Thoroughly stress tested with prime95 for 24hours (and some other stress testers for a shorter period)
Just got the gtx 670, haven't played that much with the OC on it yet, but up to 1200Mhz core with turbo boost seems stable in all of the games I play and with some quick stress testing.

I have my AMD FX-8100 3.1Ghz overclocked to 4.2Ghz. Using a self-contained water block. Heat isn't keeping me from going higher. I think it's memory. I also have my dual Radeon 6970s overclocked slightly.. maybe 10% with after market coolers.

Yeah, a mem limit sounds about right. I can only go so high with my now-dated DDR2 800 ram. Once I have the money, I'm doing a completely new build with either the Bulldozer or Ivy Bridge architectures, and will then be able to utilize the incredible speed of tri or quad channel DDR3 (maybe 4?).

I've been using the same old computer since 2007, and its performance has been ticking away slowly ever since... does that count as overclocking?

Did you bump up the clock speed or is it just wearing out?
