Why is it people always feel entitled to unlock every single thing easily?
The purchase of modules and upgrades is basically what the rather weak, linear 'mech tree promised in the first place. It's what really defines your piloting style and is the closest thing we have to a "character build."
As long as you are limited to just a handful of these modules at any given time, you literally
do not need to own them all, and should think about investing in the ones you actually care about. I guarantee the grind is reasonable to 3-4 modules/consumables /w upgrades and that's the max you're going to see for a very, very long time at one time.

Planetside 2 is my current gold standard of "How to handle a F2P game" honestly.
