New with this patch, when your team kills an enemy mech, the targeting box does not disappear until a few seconds later. Your teammates keep firing at the enemy as he falls to the ground. Intentional or bug?

I've actually seen mech corpses still targetable even before this patch. Not very often, though.

I have also noticed this new thing : the red square disapear from ur HUD when the target's center torso is totaly destroyed (confirmed on testing grounds).

I dont know if it is intentional but it is very disturbing coz it changes the gameplay : u keep firing and spend heat and ammo on a dead target instead of focusing on a new one.

A plus u lose immediate satisfaction of ennemy mech destruction ;)((

I've seen them still targetable after they are flat on the ground.
This is broken.

Bad UI design decision.

Since targeting box is color-coded, the best way is to change its color to, say, grey on disabled mechs. Or if you wish to distinguish between disabled enemies and friendlies: reddish- or bluish- grey.

If only there were some sort of document - notes if you will - that developers could publish to tell players about changes in the latest patch...

Nah, guessing is fun. Let's just let the players fumble around unaware!

The problem with this is that there is no indication that the mech has actually been destroyed. I've had a few cases already in just two games when I've fired at dead targets out of instinct that were killed because their XL engine got destroyed. Some mechs can survive losing a side torso and some can't, so it's not intuitively obvious whether the mech you're locked on to is dead or not if they did lose a side torso.

[Deleted quote]

Well, I wouldn't dislike this if there was some indication the mech was destroyed, perhaps some sort of writing over the paper doll, and X, having the paper doll go grey, etc.

The problem isn't inherently that we maintain the lock, it's that if you don't have clear LOS to a locked target alive targets and newly dead look identical. So if our choice is between the current form or a reversion, I must support reversion.

Whether it's a good idea or not (it isn't), it should have been in the patch notes. Seriously MWO guys, pull it together!

Well devs...do you remember annoying recharge sound for lasers, which wasn't asked by anyone? This "feature" is much worse. Not only it just annoys people, but also has several impact on gameplay,as someone might shoot at already dead enemy.Which happens pretty often, actually.

Your explanation is also idiotic. If I'm killing enemy I know at what I was shooting. If someone else kills the mech I'm targeting I don't care at what component the killing blow has landed.I just want to be informed immediately he is dead and I can pay attention elsewhere.

I recommend strongly to remove this ahkem "feature" via hotfix or at the next patch.

This is annoying as hell.

Reasons why this should be turned back to the old way asap:
  • it causes players to spent ammunition on targets already dead,
  • it also can cause people to overheat when trying to kill an enemy and
  • it also distracts players in moments where time might be a critical factor such as turning too late for capping and such.

Horrible change. Please revert this!

I actually do like the idea behind this change, but the fact that the game doesn't give immediate feedback that your target is killed is an issue.
I know it does display kill/assist text on the bottom left of the screen, but that doesn't always show properly, and I personally would rather not diverge my focus from the battle just to read some text that isn't team coordination.

Not saying you should remove the text, but I think something like the following suggestions would really benefit this change:

-Make destroyed components disappear instantly from the damage displays (instead of blinking before going out)
-Make Betty say "Target Destroyed" when your target dies. :)

Also Devs, you should include changes like this one in the patch notes. I'm sure people would appreciate that.

My teammates and I were also affected. This bug seems widespread.
