I've read pretty extensively on the very scant details on these subjects around the forums. 100% of it is by users, usually users complaining about the lack of information. And MWO ignoring their complaints. Most of them are asking how we are meant to see what colors we buy when they appear entirely different in game, and when the second of the three client set up you use for this game cannot be run in full screen nor can you manipulate your mech in a full three-sixty.

I will be reviewing this horribly buggy feature (the selling of colors and camo) in an upcoming video. (http://twitter.com/bashpr0mpt is where I tend to link to such things, I generally review games and tech, built a little bit of a following out of it, whoa ok, five times MWO's following apparently, ok, so I have a big following out of it?) I made this discovery whilst making said video, and was pretty confused and frustrated to say the least that I just blew seven bucks on buying the camo pattern instead of a single use because I thought well hey I'm going to put it on two mechs ... I'd REALLY need to put it on TEN mechs AND have another camo pattern to make it worthwhile but I'll be a good customer and support the game. BAM, buyers remorse X 1,000,000 when I switch to my main mech to throw the camo on it that I put on my dinky little 'test it on your small mech before making a video showing your fans how you paint your stuffs' mech (which now has unlimited YAYAYAY full camo YAYAYAY that I will never use because I don't even use that mech as I bought it because you didn't release a hero Stalker until six hours AFTER I finished asking why there wasn't a hero stalker and if there would be one and getting no answers ended up getting it only to wake up to find LAWL HERO STALKER BUY IT NOW.)

Ok. Can you tell the level of frustration I've fallen to with this game? I might be a noob to MWO, but I'm by no means mentally handicapped, and have a good public track record of being a savvy consumer, so if I'm falling for these scammy sales tactics I'm sure thousands of other users are, and that is what they are, straight up unconscionable business practice. A color costing $6? Really? ONE color? And we can't even SEE what it looks like until we're IN a match AND then ask a friend to screen shot us because there's no third person nor any other means to examine your own mech except when you're toast at which point you're usually all kinds of other colors as well? REALLY PIRANHA?

Come on. Let's be serious. So I'm going to ask simply; will you allow 1,200 MC purchases of camo patterns to unlock that pattern for ALL FUTURE MECH APPLICATION so that we can--as any logical being would deduce--apply it anytime, anywhere, to anything, we 'OWN' that camo pattern to use and reuse on any mech we may buy from this day forth exactly like colors. Or are you really going to gutterball on us and scrabble for every last buck and do us over like that where 'single use' is CLEARLY the only purchase choice anyone needs and it should be clearly noted (your terms are so ambiguous throughout all MC bought items I might add) unless you have TWO camo's and wish to change them TWENTY TIMES on ONE MECH (which if you do, you may have decision deficit disorder! :))

What is Piranha doing about this? I can see clearly this isn't the first whiney message on the subject, and as much as I hate siding with the constant drone of disgruntled users MWO has built up and as much as I want to try and assume good faith, throughout this entire experience of testing this game out I have stumbled across pitfall after pitfall to strip users out of every buck you can to the point that to play the game enjoying 'all features' for say one 12 hour period you would easily spend in excess what you would spend several years of subscription play of other MMO's. First I waste 3,800 MC on a Stalker then the hero stalker comes out immediately afterwards. Now I've blown 1,200 on camo for a friggen demo bot I won't even touch. Needless so say you know how my review of this game is going to end up at this rate. .__.

While I agree with much of what you have to say, you can look at your colours in the mechlab before you buy them.

I only bought some camo and paint in the recent sale because of the high normal price and after checking the forums. And not knowing what you're doing there could end up wasting your money. Seems a bit explotative but it's a "beta".... :)

That would be a great idea, if the colors in the mechlab actually look like they do in game.

yeah camo patterns are horribly overpriced...there are also a few basic colors you can buy for c-bills...very limited selection...they need to make at least a tan/desert basic color

If they were overpriced, people wouldn't buy them.

If you have a problem with the price, wait for them to go on sale.

Screaming about the price of paint and camo is like holding a picket sign outside of Barclay Prime in Philly demanding that they stop charging $100 for a sandwich -- It won't change their mind as long as people keep spending $100 per sandwich.

It sounds like the OP is just mad because he made dumb decisions.

Spending $$ on paint saying "I couldn't demo it because I can't see it in a match!" is just dumb... every map has different lighting, so your paint will look different on every map. You can see it in the mechlab.

Secondly, spending $$ on a Stalker that is available for C-Bills, and then griping about the release of the Misery is just as obtuse.

Own your mistakes, OP.

I like the part where he buys a mech he doesn't want because they don't have the one he wants because he was too impatient to wait for a community response, and then calls himself a savvy consumer.

Seriously though, a little patience might help you. I realize that 6 hours may seem like a long time, but it's really not. I must have missed the thread where you asked about a hero stalker. They announced it several days before actually putting it on sale and, if I had seen the thread, I would have told you that they plan to release hero versions of everything that doesn't have a founder's mech.

You're not the only person that wants the camo patterns for every mech, but a lot of people have purchased them already, so it must not be that overpriced.

If you have questions, then the community here is usually willing to answer. Just ask nicely, and wait (sometimes it may take a day; most of us have jobs etc.).

Note that there will be free patterns coming from CW, probably including well-known canon unit patterns, as you earn certain achievements. The ones we have now are extra. Of course that doesn't help any of us now, but I'm just throwing it out there for informative purposes.

#1. Buying patterns for a 'Mech you don't pilot regularly is dumb. Don't do it.
#2. They would make less money if you were able to unlock a pattern for all 'Mechs with one small purchase. If someone is going to purchase a pattern at all, they will likely purchase patterns for many of (if not all of) their 'Mechs. That makes patterns a gold mine for them. You're asking them to give away their gold.
#3. A lot of misunderstandings like this will be solved when they put out tutorials.

As far as Misery goes ... do you go to the main MW:O page? If not, you should. The main page has big banners that announce things like new 'Mechs sometimes a week or two in advance. The Misery was on there several days before it was released. They also have things like the monthly Creative Director updates linked in a big feed on the main page. Read those, as they have some awesome info in them. The May update was put up on the 3rd (which is probably when the Misery was first pictured on the big banner), and specifically listed the Misery as coming out the 7th.

They do, if you're on a darker map.

--------------
Also if anyone really wants to inspect the colors, here's what you do:
  • Close your game if it is open.
  • Find your user.cfg file in your game folder.
  • Did you find it? If no, skip to 5. If yes, continue.
  • Open user.cfg with Notepad. Skip to step 6.
  • Create a notepad file in your MWO folder.
  • Insert the line CL_FOV = 40.
  • Save this file as user.cfg (with file type set to ANY).
  • Open your game.
  • Apply paints, inspect, etc.
  • When done, either delete that user.cfg line to return to normal view, or set it to 75 for a good, wider view.

paint is fine. perma unlocks are great. until we get perma unlocks for cammos though i wont ever spend more than the 1 time camo per mech. camo unlocks per chassis are imho stupid.

Agreed. Pattern unlocks should be for weight class at the very least.

The term 'Beta' is being exploited here in this regards as none of the 'transactional' components of this game is considered BETA on my credit card. I'm sorry - I can not accept this as a definition of the state of affairs. It's confusing to others and mislabels many aspects of this game. When it comes to money changing hands, its a distinct business process and interpreted and very production ready.

personaly i think the Camo and Paint color cost are completely rediculous. I dont care if there are people who have paid for them, i wont. with the ease of reskinning things (making new camo's) and the billions of potential paint colors there is NO reason to charge $5-$7 for ONE PAINT COLOR.

personaly i feel camo's should be $1 at most and paint colors $0.25 MAYBE $0.50 Maybe more for some limited edition camo's. If so id actualy buy them current pricing never going to happen id rather buy mech bays or something useful.

but good luck getting any real discussion going about price. You will either be called cheap, poor, entitled, pathetic or stupid or they will say you are on welfare and want everything for free.

just read the rest of this guys wall of txt and holy crap i feel extra crazy just being on the same forums as him lol.

Well, I'm sure they've thought about camo pricing. There's always a few people around that dont care about pricing and just buy it, maybe this is the best way for pgi/igp to make money.

BELIEVE IT! As sure as this earth orbits the sun, colors and cammos are fancy shiney optional things cost a lot! just be thankful mechbays and premium time aren't that ridiculous. and these are the things you should actually spend MC on IMO. read what I told you in your last post about money and MWO. please.
