A lot of the guides fail to accentuate a crucial fact.

The Spider is not a novice or beginner mech. You need to be a really good pilot and really good shot before you can get full use out of it.

Any ****** can spray streaks, lasers, or srms in a Jenner, Raven, or Commando, but the Spider's limited firepower means you actually have to make it count, while also avoiding crippling alpha strikes against you.

Buy something else, anything else, first. Don't buy the spider. It's not a mech for beginners, even those who like a challenge. It takes quite a few matches to know how to fight all of the variants of most mechs, and that's what is required of a spider pilot. You can beat almost anyone, but you have to know their exact weaknesses and the typical playstyle of people piloting a particular loadout.

You don't have to be some kind of god, but what I'm saying is that it's pretty easy to spray out some damage in a streak commando or a 6xMlas Jenner, and extremely easy to feel like you have talent in a Raven 3L.

The Spiders are different. You have to actually know what the f**k you are doing before you will good in one, so please don't buy one until you are experienced.

No, it's the one that pops out of the screen like it's really in the room with you.

Even the best pilots can suck at spiders. The spider requires a certain way of thinking and you need to have fast reflex and fast concept of your surroundings. Only then can you master the spider.

100% agree.
The Spider was the worst Mech to add to the game. They had other 30 tonners to choose from. Heck, they could have added another 25 or 35 ton, maybe even a 20 ton and gotten something better.

Live fast, die last. That's normally how spiders work in pug matches. Unless the other lot are cowards and cap before you can pick them off one by one. :)

What's a spider 3D?

Meanwhile I'm not sure if this is due to frustration with bad Spider pilots or an attempt to play the 'since I use a Spider and don't suck at it I'm a pro' card.

I think he means the 5D.

While I agree with the OP that Spiders are definitely for more experience pilots, this advice applies even more to the other two Spider variants, as 5D has the best hardpoint layout and access to ECM. The 5K and 5V are far more limited in their loadouts and are tougher to do well in.

Buy a spider 5D before you buy any other mech.

Learn to pilot it well and survive.

Every other mech is easy mode after this.

Yeh getting your *** kicked over and over until you master the spider is the best way to learn the ropes.

If one can master the spider, one can master life. To master a mech one must first master the life of their spider.

h264 codec mp4, windows media player to convert at 8000 kbits/sec. I use fraps to record. Not the best, but it works. If your voice is not important, try MSI Afterburner. It's free and works with less lag.

The trick with Spiders is to be an unpredictable little gob-*****. Helps to knock down a few espresso's first and put on some suitably up-tempo music.

The other key is that you HAVE to get them elited - once you have speed tweak and the basic skills doubled up it is pretty close to God mode.

They aren't that hard to pilot - the trouble is a single mistake can end it for you - I should have been dead in the above video when I got caught sitting in front of the two atlas' but they hurried their shots and missed.

Also I probably stop and go slow a bit too much in that particular vid - being stationary can end your existance if there is someone paying attention nearby.
