Well, I know one way to cause it to happen. I have a VOIP phone, and if someone uses it, it instantly disconnect me and the game is unplayable for the entire duration of the call(disconnects immediatly upon loading a map). So frustrating considering people like to get on it and talk forever. Reminds me of old school dial-up days. "Get off the phone I wanna play mechwarrior online."

Sounds like your router has QOS turned on, turning it off may or may not help.

Strange that Skype and VOIP would effect the connection. I am also seeing where usage from an xbox over wireless will increase the chance of a malformed packet.

PGI, you hit it out of the park with the HUD fix, can this be the next one.

seems like if anything else is using the net the chances of malformed packets increase if im running vent skype and youtube it will happen almost every game the more i close the less it happens never had this problem till early April

I've been playing with it and there certainly does seem to be a direct correlation between how many other people in the household are using their PCs (or the phone, or streaming video on TV) and the number of malformed packet disconnects I get. Kinda sucks as there are 5 PCs, a PS3 and Roku that we stream video with, not counting the VOIP phone or anything like printers, tablets or smartphones... That certainly explains a lot though. Here's hoping that they do something about it. None of my other games(and I have quite a few) have any kind of connectivity issues ;)

I would NOT make changes to your PC. This clearly began on March 5th with the implementation of Host State Rewind(HSR).

If your router supports QOS and WMM, disabling these will gain some stability but again you shouldn't have to because it was all working before.

I have Comcast 25MB down and 6MB up with 40ms latency and 2ms jitter to their server. Using an ASUS RT-N66U router and have tried different firmware. I wish they would save the contents of the malformed packet into the omnicron.log so we could include that in a support ticket, I really don't think I should have to run Wireshark and sniff packets just to get evidence of the issue.

What make is so frustrating is that it usually happens just as you are about to finish off another mech, you know it is down to whoever gets off the next shot and bam, disconnect. It is times like that when you leave the room looking for a broom and dust pan with the keyboard sticking out of the wall.

WELP....

Tried just about everything. Maybe it's my ISP. I have taken gone directly from the Modem to comp. Got rid of QoS and WMM on the router, Tried a different modem.

I'm out of Ideas here guys...

Full game re install, moved a ton of hardware around to see if I can single something out... Still cant finish a game... I lost about 20 days of premium time because of this...

It isn't your modem or ISP... lots of people, including me are getting this. I have a good stable connection.

A malformed packet is probably from the sender, in this case, the MWO servers.

Agreed

Also seeing this now i have no issues with any other program pingtest gives me an A+ connection to Canadian location.

It looks like you or the server is receiving stuff out of order... which isn't unusual, but it may or may not be poor handling of it.

Yep. The game should be able to handle a few out of sync or jacked up packets... instead of dropping you, you would think it would just be a "studder" while it discards those packets and uses the next ones received.

But, I am not a game designer, so I really don't know what I am talking about.

I have Win 7 64 and run Avast, use wireless LAN (Asus PCEn53 wi-fi card, Billion 7800NL modem), 2 to 4 devices on the net, fairly slow ADSL (6m/1m), and am connecting from Australia at 300+ ms ping. No disconnect problems or Omicron log reports of malformed packets. Also used a Netgear modem and a TP Link wi-fi card and never any disconnect problems with that either. Some evidence to make hardware issues, high ping or mediocre bandwidth less likely as causes.

I guess some stats might help find a common cause for this:
OS: Win 7 64 bit
AV: BitDefender
Connection: 55 Mb down 11 Mb up (live alone so it's not lack of bandwidth)
Motherboard:Z77 Extreme4 w/PCIE Gigabit LAN
Router:TP-LINK TL-WR1042ND (Hard wired, don't use wifi).
Cable modem:MOTOROLA SB6121

This http://trippams.online.lync.com/ might be a useful test tool. It does some stuff with UDP (which is inherently hard to test the reliability of) - as UDP is the protocol used by most games, I'm assuming Bugwarrior uses it too. You will need to open ports on the modem and your firewall though...

Running in SP3 compatibility mode seems to have stopped the crash...
Gonna try to do some further testing.

Ok, so this is really odd.

When I VPN through canada into the game, I have yet to get a malformed packet, when I disconnect my VPN and connect regular it shows up again... usually when it happens it will keep happening for a few hours, but again, I can stop this by using a VPN through canada. I will try it in different parts of the US to see if it still happens.

I wonder if we would be able to find a common router in our path that is causing this issue to happen? For example, is everything who is experiencing this in the NorthEast of the US? It's hard to troubleshoot because for the most part it is sporadic.

Anyone know any game servers that are pingable to run traces to? 70.42.29.74 has ping disabled.

Tell me about it, just happened to me in the middle of an intense close range battle. I was 1v1ing a Cataphract in my AWS-8T and had just stripped his front CT armor, my left arm was hurt a bit, I turned to deliver another blast from my 4 LLs and SRMs and BAM! - disconnected. Totally had him, was gonna be the frist kill of the match... I'm seriously regretting purchasing that month of premium time.
And Florida here. So it sounds like its happening all over.

you're getting packet loss.....I've helped 5 people with this so far...all have had packet loss, even if a tiny amount. It seems this game has a strict policy on corrupted or lossed packets and instead of re-syncing you, it drops you. Hope this helps people a bit.

I seem to be having this problem, didn't start till the most recent patch. It's very annoying. Tried running on my wireless card instead of wired. Restarted modem and router.

Ran the repair tool.

What else is there?
