[AuGuR]

Many of our handles are often decided by experiences, be it a character from a good book, a real life nickname, or ... just anywhere.

My particular handle/nick came from 2 basic definitions.

First ::
(to) augur : To drill or bore thru.

Basically this harkens to my FPS games, as I've been fairly good at insta-hit weapons which require good mouse control.

Second ::
(to) augur :: to divine
References the divination skill of augury, which is a combinedform of clairvoyance (far-seeing) and precognition (future telling). I've been able to predict/plan my shots for those non-insta-hit weapons available in a multitude of games with reliable accuracy. Basically as it relates to my name, I was very accurate in my early days, even tho on a 28k modem.


That's basically the how/where/why I chose Augur as my online nick.

My callsign comes from the fact that my preferred callsign was already taken.

Normally, I like Strobe (first initial, second initial, first four letters of last name) because it's an actual word and sounds cool. That was taken already, so I just decided to go with a string of names related to light and/or lighting looking for one not taken until I found Glare.

Well Back when I wore a young man's cloths, I used to draw superheroes. One of which was a guy named Warrior (civilian Identity Josephus Mallan). He was my favorite so I cast him into D&D and then when I found BattleTech I added him as a Lyran.

Well... Johnathan is my actual first name and McKenna is the big bloodname from my favorite clan.

I liked the name "Havoc" but when I started playing and joined a unit, someone was already using it. They were also using special characters in their name H@voc so, instead of changing my name I decided to use special characters to make mine (plus I think spelling Havoc with a K brings the ghey). So we became known to the other people in our unit as Hav and }{.

Years went by and some forums/games wouldn't let me use the }{ (********) so I used some variations, DC_Havoc was one in MPBT or Havyek in DAOC, Rift and GA (some others I'm probably forgetting).

Being Extremely Creative..<NOT!>...I settled on the name IntruderAlert! when I got my first copy of Mechwarriors
But when i went online in Kali...and joined FWL the tag [FWL]-IntruderAlert! would not completely show up in the
character tag while playing so I abbreviated it to [FWL]-IA and became know as IA in the game. (we hadn't started using the
M in FLWM at that point.

My handle has a pretty simple origin.

1981: The film, staring Sylvester Stallone, Rutger Hauer and Billy Dee Williams, that inspired the handle:



1986: I was introduced to the very first commercial lasertag arena game (in this case a franchise location in Fountain Valley, CA), for which at the time of registration, I mis-counted the number of letters a handle could contain and shortened it to 8. Before long, I found myself playing in the leagues, having kept the name (and NTK for the old school arcade games that could only take a 3-initial abbriv for a high-score posting) and making it a permament part of my "gaming" persona, all thanks to a place called...

The old orders of knight for the Holy Church in Rome had 3 orders in them, the Templars for guarding the temples, the Hospitaliers for guarding the routes to the Holy Land, and the Knights Paladin for the general purpose travelling do gooders and the personal guards of the emperor and pope. A captain within the knights Paladin was called a Paladyne.

This is not to be confused with the Holy Roman Emperor Charleagne's personal Guard also knows as Paladin, these came several centuries after the original Paladins were ostracised and destroyed from political rivalry with the templars, and were not an order of the church.

My handle comes in part from Texas Hold'em, poker players refer to being dealt Ace/King hole cards as "Big Slick". I have heard that it's one of the best hands you can get, but it never wins.... hmm...

My name comes from both of my biggest Battletech heros. Grayson Death Carlyle was the hero of the first battletech book i read and Aidan Prydes stor(Jadephönix trilogy) was the best hero in the whole series(apart from Morgan Kell).

Shazear is a Russian Dragon from the Werewolf: Rage Across Russia sourcebook. The only dragon not in captivity. I've used it in a multitude of on-line communities for probably 15-20 years (maybe more).

I'm in the "my previous handle was already taken" camp, so I decided to come up with a new one. I thought Blackjack would be a cool callsign, but that one was already taken as well. So I started thinking of other names. I wanted something that sounded like a callsign from a military unit. I thought of names like WildDog, BlackDog, RedDog (a brand of beer), and then BlueDog. I did a little research and discovered the "Blue Dog" paintings by Cajun artist George Rodrique. I decided BlueDog was a good choice, so here I am

Tsula is Cherokee for fox it was a Nick name of mine given to me by a dear friend who pasted away just over a month ago. Plus I have used that name for my mechwarrior in the table top games for clan wolf.

Well, seeing a Drac on here, I decided I would join in.

Originally, I went by "Death Khan," as it sounded similar to "Def Con," and this was back when I was younger and thought the Clans were better, hands-down. After joining up with Neveron (an online version of the board game), I was adopted into the Skye Rangers, then we were absorbed into the Lyran Commonwealth after getting smashed by another faction. After leaving Neveron, I needed a name for boards, as well as the Legend of the Green Dragon text-based roleplaying game. Since the leader of the Lyran Commonwealth faction in Neveron was Octurian Steiner, and he was an all-around good guy and darn good leader, I decided to go with Steiner.

Having a surname as a first name and having no "real" surname worked find in a world where they knew nothing of BattleTech, but I figured that it wouldn't work so well when I returned to the BT world, should an opportunity present itself. So I found a list of past Archons of the Lyran Commonwealth, and settled on Alistair Steiner, as he was the Archon when the Commonwealth stole Mackie​ plans from the Terran Hegemony.

Add all that together, and you get Alistair Steiner, proud member of the Skye Rangers, though still loyal to the Lyran Commonwealth. Not sure what to do with the "Death Khan" bit, unless we're allowed multiple characters and can play as Clanners later. In that case, either Wolf of Ghost Bear is getting a new member.
